If you have all your paperwork in order and have meet Cigna's requirments (use search function cigna's website), it takes 1 to 2 weeks. They have to present your request to a committee and they might ask for more information, which can drag the process out. I was lucky and I was approved 1 week from when I submitted my request... Good luck!

Cigna requires a three month doctor supervised weight loss diet, and reccomendation from your primary care physician. I was also required by the weight loss surgery clinic to pass a psych evaluation, cardio stress test, and pulmonolgy exam (sleep study to test for apnea, etc.). Once I had all these, the clinic submitted to Cigna for final approval, which took about a week.

Thanks JonB I was wondering that too! I have Cigna. I also have done the 3 months with my PCM; have my physch appointment. I have my last doctor's appointmnet on 03 April to find out when the surgery will be and the next step. I am already on the liquid diet; so I am hoping everything goes as planned. :) :)

Thanks!

It was a week for me too. If you met all your prerequisites you should be fine! I also had a 3 month wait but that's when I did all my tests.

It took a week for me to get a denial, I faxed my appeal to the next day. By the following week, I was approved. So even with an initial denial, it took about ten days total. Good luck!

Did they say why u were denied if u don't mind me asking and what did u have to do to appeal it?

It was something important, but really simple to fix. My PCP initially wrote a letter saying I was under her care, and recommended for WL surgery. She had to re-write it stating that I was "recommended and CLEARED for weight loss surgery." Once that was submitted, I got an approval.

I have Cigna.. all they required was a psych evaluation.. 6 nutritional classes & that was pretty much it.. & of course a request from my PCP .. It took about a week for me to get approved & had no problems at all! :)
