I was banded on July 1, 2013. I wasnt told about the gas pain until the day of surgery. when they woke me up in recovery, I was a little disoriented. but I expected that. it wasnt until that night that i started to get pain in my chest and my upper left arm. i had the nurse give me pain meds. I am taking gas x but that is not helping for this type of gas. has anyone tried anything that worked for them?

Hi guys, Sleeved on Tuesday 2nd July, so it's my 5th day post op. I can honestly say I feel ok...surprisingly! I think after readying up on the forums so much, and after the pain I underwent with the removal of the band.....I just expected to be in a lot of pain, BUT.....it's not as bad as I expected. I haven't taken any pain meds since Thursday night. The only thing that is uncomfortable is my chest/lungs. I do feel some tightness, but I'm trying to walk as much as I can and doing my breathing exercises whenever I remember. I must say, i hated the 'leak' and 'swallow' test the following morning after my op......OMG, YUKKKKKKK! I don't know how they expect you t…

Hello, I am about to embark on my own sleeve journey and I couldn't be more excited. I am not liking the pre-op diet, feeling hungry pretty much all the time, but I like even less being overweight and feeling that my body is in control of me instead of the other way around. I am looking for a FB group to join to keep me motivated and supported. Thanks!

Where I live you have to go through the information session, meet with the bariatric doctor however many times your insurance tells you to, see your nutritionist, see your exercise person, have your psych eval, and have your other doctors sign off that you are candidate for your surgery and they deem it medically nessesary. Oh, and loose a little weight too. THEN you have your consult with the surgeon. Today was the "big day" with the surgeon and my support people!!! We again went over which procedure I would like, and why not the others. The insurance break down. For me it went something like this... Well, after everything is said and done hospital, anesthesia, bla…

I had my surgery on Tuesday the 2nd. I have had no pain. I took one push of morphine right after waking up from surgery but felt nauseous and light- headed so I never used it again. I took oral pain meds once a day. I spent two nights in hospital. I had my surgery done robotically due to having had a Nissan procedure for hernia. As a result, I didn't need a drain or pain ball. I am very pleased with my progress thus far. Now on to getting my liquids and clear Protein in.

Hi everyone! My name is Pam, I'm from the Dallas area, and I was sleeved on 6/25/2013. My husband was sleeved on 5/6/13. It all started in August of last year. Two of my co-workers had VSG done during the same week (unbeknownst to the other!). Both of them weighed significantly less than me. Call it my wake up call. I had to finally accept the fact that I am morbidly obese at a BMI of 45. I went home that evening and told my husband I was interested in this "new" weight-loss surgery. I had never been interested in the bypass because I couldn't stand the thought of dumping syndrome. The sleeve surgery sounded perfect. To my surprise, he not only approved of my interest…

I am a new Gastric Sleeve patient. I am 6 days post op and still struggling with extreme gas pains. My experience however, was pretty darn awesome. I had my surgery performed in Cancun with Dr. Hector Perez. From the day I decided to proceed, his coordinator, alma Orozco with Ready 4A Change was with me every step of the way. She was informative, helpful and always professional. I was not the easiest person to deal with... I ask a lot of questions. And not all at once :-/ I booked my flight and Alma handled literally, everything! They provided ground transportation to and from the airport, arranged my hotel stay at a 4+hotel and transportation to and from the…

Hi everyone... YaY me... I had my first fill today and it was a breeze! I have a couple questions. 1) Why did the dr. put me back on the liquid diet for 3 days? I thought that part was done. Does this effect the band? How? 2) I gained 1 1/2 lbs since my surgery (before my fill). Dr. said no biggie. Is that normal after the swelling goes down? And the BIG question... Can I have WINE yet???? I don't feel any different, but I am hungry! I didn't eat before my fill and now back to clear liquids for 3 days

Hi my name is Carrie. I am new to the sight but have been working on getting a gastric sleeve since April. I was approved last week! I almost threw up when they told me. Lol! I was not a heavy child but as I went through college and got married it seemed like all I did was put on weight. I tried weight watchers and atkins and nutritionists and it seemed like I would lose a little bit of weight and then I would stall and then I would go back to eating the same way again. I have been through a lot in my life and stress is a big factor. My father died when I was nineteen and my mother died the day after my twin boys were born. I have a twin brother and half brothers…

So I finally got my surgery date... July 22!!! It has been a long 6 months of tests and insurance fights to get to this point and although I feel ready for the surgery, the thought of being mentally prepared still lingers. I do realize, for myself, that I am not overweight because I am just a more hungry person than a thin person... I know I am overweight because I eat when I am not physically hungry at all.. just bored , sad, happy, tired or just to reward myself for a long day at work. I wonder what will happen with those feelings when I physically cannot eat. So much of my family time has been focused around meals , I guess I am just worried that even though I am awar…

I am a 35 year old sleever. I had a lapband when they were first FDA approved, in 2005. I did wonderful at first and then some other health concerns caused me to have it drained. Then I moved to FL from Chicago and since I didn't have a band doctor here, I left it empty. About 5 months ago I started getting sick, not really able to keep down real food, and was just uncomfortable all the time. I spoke to my GP and she stated that is sounded like reflux and started me on meds. No improvement. She then sent me to a GI doc, he did the scope, and said all looked fine. But I was still sick everyday. I went for a second opinion, and that GI doc referred me to Dr. Uchal at North …

Hi There, I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself. My name is Amanda and I started my weight loss journey in April 2012 when I got the lap band. For the first nine months I did really well. I had dropped 100 pounds and was exercising 5 times a week. My life had changed, but that is when things changed. I started getting sick after fills and throwing up almost everything I ate. I was hospitalized twice for severe dehydration. I also had never had acid reflux before but it was starting to get so bad. At that point I went to my surgeon and asked him to take it out. He said he wasn't sure if the problems were being caused by the band but he did day that I …

Hello everyone, I am new to this foram and I usually just scan and read everyone else's post but today I decided to create an account and post a topic. I am a very private person, but I think interacting with others on this issue will help me to be successful. I have been overweight for about 10 years now and I am 39 years old. I am hoping that the lap band will be the tool I need to lose the weight and get rid of this annoying diabetes. I at the Pre-op phase and have not yet had my first appt. but I have been through this before so I know the drill. 2 years ago I was scheduled to have the Gastric Bypass and 2 days befor the surgery I cancelled it and told myself that I…

It is 1:30 in the morning and I decided to reflect a bit on why WLS? Why now? My first memory of being over weight was around 10. Mind you, I was not very obese but my brother thought I was so I spent the summer running around my grandmother's house. After a year I grew into my body and kept active. I remember squeezing into jeans by laying on the bed. It was the 80's and even though I was not large, I always had "junk in my trunk" that made me self- conscious. Fast forward to the 90's. When I found out I was pregnant, I was thrilled.....and scared. I no longer had my mom around to ask advice. I thought I was being healthy. After all, I was eating for 2 right? Wrong! …

Good morning sleevers, I think that I am having my first stall I've been at 207.2 for the last few days, but I'm ok with it because I know that it is only short term. By me not being able to get in the gym yet I think I have done very well, I feel really good about the weight that I have already lost and I'm looking pretty good, so I am not even going to trip out about the stall. I have even found a couple of was to get my Protein in with juice and I can even tell the difference on how I feel with getting it in. I say thank you all for you support even when it hurts, but sometimes that's what we need to get back on track. Dana

I was one of those, disgustingly, well built in shape women that I now have come to loathe. I would have a baby, and within months be back into a size 5. I also, abused my metabolism for years, living off of cigarettes, diet cokes and very little food. My ex-husband, even though he did drugs and was an abusive alcoholic, lifted weights and was very concious and picky about his physique (and mine). Anyway, fast forward past the divorce.. being broke with three kids and trying to conserve food so they would have enough.. and, basically 16 years of pain and tragedy, I got remarried.. got happy.. entered my 40's.. quit smoking and gained a TON of weight that I have, con…

I am new to this site - but, very happy to have found it. This has been such a long journey and it is finally surgery time. I have been on a liquid diet since last Thursday and don't think I can take another day of it. I sure wish I had a doctor that didn't do it. I almost gave up a couple of times - but, I need to keep my eye on the "prize". I am pretty scared and nervous about the surgery and recovery.

OMG, so before surgery and traveling, the hotel bath towels never fit around me.. maybe could get it to cover half of my body and hated it... after recently traveling a lot I got to the hotel took a shower and WHOA a towel fit all the way around with room to spare.. Thinking maybe this hotel just uses larger towels... I tested it at target, picking up a cheap regular sized bath towel and BOOOM same thing it fit around me! So to celebrate when me and my husband got home we got rid of all the large beach towels I used as bath towels... and bought new regular sized bath towels... Haha, who knew towels could be so exciting?!?!?
