I live in nz and thinking of going to India for the sleeve surgery... Anyone have and good/bad stories?

Yes it would be more comforting to be at home near family & my dr but $17,000 compared to $7000 is a big diff ... Still cheaper to go to india & pay to have a friend come w me for 10 days. But if there were complications that would be very tricky ..

And I didn't mean "anyone who's been" asking for holiday ideas haha ... I meant surgery wise. I wouldn't leave the city I'd have it done in and do a big treak around. They recommend u stay there for 10 days ... I'd still be on a very limited diet at that point so I could just bring my supplies w me.... Decisions

Believe me, the last thing you want when you have this surgery is a holiday. You just want to be home in bed and familiar surroundings. I have travelled the world and India is very hard work when you are well, let alone when you have had major surgery. Visiting India is what I call a 'travel experience'. You need a holiday when you get home from India.

Hi there!! I went to India for another type of surgery (I'm from the USA) and had absolutely no problems!! The doctors and staff were all wonderful, very professional and all spoke English!! I was in New Delhi at one of their most prestigious hospitals and only paid 1200 USD ( including hotel) for a procedure that would have been 5000-6000 here in the States!! I then traveled around India for about a month - which was truly eye opening and wonderful!!!

Wow great!! was it by chance the Columbia Asia hospital? I've had that one recommended to me by someone. I am feelin fairly confident in having the surgery there now - I'd just panic if there were any complications. I'm not sure what the protocol would be. And again when I say holiday I mean - a different country, not looking after kids & way cheaper. I'm not going to trek through the hills of India and go nightclubbing. Since seeing marigold hotel I've wanted to go to india ...

If you are going to spend the same amount of money going to India for surgery as staying home, then why would you consider Medical Tourism? I think you're skipping over how serious this surgery is. Read through the complication board and see what can go wrong. If I could stay home and pay the same price that I would to travel and have surgery, it would be no question. Most Americans travel because, including transportation it's usually a difference of $5-6,000 vs $30-40,000. I would have the surgery at home and plan a holiday to India as a reward for meeting goal. Surgery really isn't the time to "experience a new country" especially as you'd spend most of your time at the hospital/hotel, even with 10 days.

I was sleeved in india!!! Bangalore to be precise and It cost me about 8000 dollars including tickets from london to and fro!!! Best decision ever!!! I had the choice of waiting on the Nhs and doing it for free but I would have to wait for one year!!! Life is tooo short and soo not worth it!!! I went by myself and I don't regret it...my doctor and Nut were all amazing and the nurses were beyond lovely and encoraging!!! Bless them!! I even did a bit of shopping 3days after my surgery to buy the beautiful indian saris!!! I was on watch by the doctors for a werk just to be on the safe side!!! I looved my whole experience and will do it again in a heartbeat!!!

May I also add that I will be six months post op on the 28th of this month and am 92lbs down bearing in mind I only did a 3day liquid fast before surgery and my Doctor always keeps in touch and wants be too reach 100lbs weightloss by the sixth month!!! 8 more pounds!!! Well am trying!!!i started at 338 and now 246lbs!!! Best best descision ever!!! I could never have afforded this procedure in london!!
