Just realized I never made an introduction!!! Hi , my name is Ron. It took me 16 months from first appointment to surgery. I was Banded on March 17 2008 (Happy St Patty's Day). I lost 27 pounds on my pre-op diet. It was much easier than I thought it would be, until the holidays hit. had to make a mad dash to the finish line to loose the last few pounds b4 surgery. I had my procedure done In Fremont California by Dr. Dutta and his staff. They were all wonderful as well as the staff in the Hospital after surg. I stayed 1 night and went home the next day. Sounds like I have been having issues most others have been having so far; no fill yet and getting hungry! One…

So I am waiting on a surgery date and I'd like to ask all of those that have had surgery this. Based on your recovery, how were you feeling about 2-2.5 months post-op? I think the earliest I can have my surgery will be mid-June and I am getting married Sept 1st an leaving for Ireland the next day! I'm not concerned about being able to eat cake or drink at the wedding...I just want to know if I will feel well? I have made the decision to have the surgery and since I've made the decision, I'm ready to plow ahead. If I don't have it pre-wedding, it won't be until late October. So I'm looking for opinions. My surgeon and the dietician as well a bariatrian I have …

I am 3.5 months post op and I had persistent left side kidney pain. I went to the DR and I had a urine test that was positive for blood, and they tell me its looks as though I have passed a stone and now have an infection. This is a result of high protein diet, and not drinking enough water. Partially my own fault. I get so busy that I don't drink enough water. Now I am on antibiotics, pain meds and missing work. Not to mention the pain. I hope I can help someone else avoid this by stressing the importance of H20!

Hi, my name is Gloria and I live in Augusta, Georgia. I am 61 years young!!!! I had my gastrectomy sleeve April 5, 2010, so far I have lost approximately 50 lbs. I was at 214 on my surgery date and now I am 165ish. I'm still hanging in there!!!! My goal is to get to at least 150 and maintain that weight. I had and continue to have no problems with my wls.The only real situation I'm concerned about right now is getting enough protein. I can't seem to find a protein drink and whatever that taste fairly decent.

This has been a rough two weeks. I ended up having two surgeries. I had a hernia they fixed at the same time. I am very independent so having to have help and realize my limitations has been rough. The first week was nothing but pain. This past week ive been stronger, and I even got on the treadmill. I listened to my body though, 25 min is apparently my cutoff this week. Maybe next week will be 30. I have my two week checkup monday. I already know I am down 21 lbs. Im excited to be okd for smooshy food. Ive bought my food processor and ordered books. And I ordered skin tightening moisturizer. I want to avoid extra skin as much as possible. Well....thats all I can think o…

These are my opinions mind you and my experiences so everyone is different remember that. I studied all options and came to these brief conclusions. lap band? No i did not want a foreign object inside my body. Also you have to go in every once in awhile to have it tightened. Just on that alone I was speaking with someone and he said "oh i love it cause I don't go in around the holidays so I can eat a lot" Really? His appearance was still quite large and gee after 3 years post op is when I saw him. This is a decision for life not convenience so I said no to this cause I can cheat on that diet. Why do it in first place knowing I can cheat. Bypass? Hell no, to many ho…

So I had a awesome moment today that just made me feel great and has gave me more of a boost on my journey. So I started my Journey at 360lbs and had surgery Jan. 21st. I am down to 245lbs. Today I went to a cookout with my friends family and my godson came over to me (he is 6). He say down next to me and said "Hi uncle John". I said hi and asked him how he was doing. He said "Uncle John you look different". I told him I lost some weight. He said "I see that" then ran off to play with the other kids. I was kind of shocked about the whole thing but it made me feel really good. Just wanted to share with everyone because it was amazing moment.

Had VSG on 11/7/2012 after unsuccessful dieting for over 10 yrs. Was embarrassed after doc gave me info on morbid obesity during annual exams 3 yrs straight. Though I knew I was overweight 198 @ 47 yrs old, but didn't think I was obese. After being borderline diabetic, in danger of high cholesterol, had GERD & had sleep apnea, and doc said if numbers remain the same or get worse at 2013 physical, he would prescribe medications for diabetes & to lower cholesterol numbers. I really didn't want to deal adjustments due to medications and ailments, so I accepted I was obese for my height & body frame. I spoke w my husband about making a life change to get. With hi…

Hello Everyone! I am brand new to the band. I just received my band on 06/13/2013 at 9am. I am having a very rough go at this, not because of the food thing, but boy the gas pains have taken me for a ride. I can't burp no matter what I do, so needless to say it is slowly coming from the other area, which I don't mind, but I would love to just be able to burp, LOL. So I am stopping in to say hello to everyone and ask for advice and what to do here? What I mean is that I really don't know what to expect? I have read the materials like I have watched my favorites movies over and over again, but I just want to make sure that I am doing what I am supposed to do. I go back to m…

So, I like so many have come to find my weight struggle is unmanageable like never before. I realized I was gaining weight at 6 yrs. old when I tried on my first communion dress and it was tight. I was an active kid. But convenience food was all that I knew when my mom became single at 5 y/o. I had no nutrition choices or learning I just ate what was available. I found my way into OA at 13 and did great, it gave me a food menu guide then, they no longer give that out....too bad. I found tennis and that was helpful and carried me through college but even with workout and lite eating I was never thin like the others. I never got thin. It was confusing. After college my iden…

Hello, I have been cleared by the cardio. and the nut doctor. I already had my pulmonary function test and go to the doctor Thursday to see those results. I'm just waiting to get cleared from my insurance. I hope this will happen quickly. From what I understand I have to weigh in 2 more times. I started this process the end of April. Is anyone else waiting like I am? I live in the south suburbs of Chicago. I can't wait to have my surgery!!

Hello all I see you are all getting ready or just had the surgery. Wanted to share my story to ease fears and return the favor of how this site helped me. I am now 46 and had my sleeve done in 8/10 at that time I was about 400 pounds 54 waist 5 xl shirt. I decided it was time for many reasons including health. I did all the hoops and jumps required before surgery as you all are. Big difference I wanted to quit something 3 months prior that was near and dear to me which was soda to see if I could do it and to prove this was for life. July 2010 was my last soda and still haven't touched one. I do recommend getting different types of post surgery shakes I had banana and …

Buyers remorse after nearly three months of doing something or buying say a car you always ask self why. Well I'm nearly three years removed from my surgery and have lost 180 pounds and love life. Did it suck the first few months hell yeah it did I couldn't have a beer or pizza. Two things I never had since. Not to belittle feelings but remember you wanted to surprise someone and went to buy a new big screen tv and stand. When you got home you were so pissed at how hard it was to put together and wire all the wires correctly. BUT when done and while you were sitting there on couch one by one your family walked in saying wow this is awesome you admit all the hardships in…

Hello all, I am scheduled to have surgery July 2, 2013 by Dr. Dyer at Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN. I start my pre-operative liquid diet this Tuesday, I'm so excited to get the ball rolling. I'm trying to remain positive about the whole ordeal, because my mind is very powerful. I have Crohn's disease so this procedure may be a little more tricky for me; nonetheless I am all in!!!

Stepped on the scale today and saw the 150 pounds I had set for goal Was sleeved just under 8 months ago on 10/25/12. I'm 5'4" and HW was 230+ and 80 pounds later at 150. Went from 18/20 jeans/xl tops to 8-10 jeans and medium tops. As much of a physical change that you can see there was 10 times the mental and emotional change. I'm no longer afraid to be seen in public, I can put on an outfit without changing 15 times then deciding to not go anyways, I will go places alone and not have to have a pack of people with me to hide behind, and I can find clothes that fit at a regular store, I can be around cute fit skinny people and hold my head high and not feel like crawling…

I'm done with all pre-op appointments. I meet with my surgeon on the 6/24 to go over everything so far and hopefully everything is in order and he will seek to get my insurance approval. Meanwhile I'm researching and reading as much as possible on the vertical sleeve surgery itself. Are there any questions I should ask the surgeon about the surgery?

I've had my band since dec. 2008. After finding a good restriction between 5.75 cc and 6 cc, I lost over the years nearly 85 lbs. Currently, I'm not feeling nearly as restricted as I normally did with this amount and packed on 20 lbs over about a year. Part of it I know was some hormonal issues which have been addressed but my restriction has definitely declined as well. My worry is that there may be erosion ( cause I've had the band so long) but I'm not uncomfortable, no port infections and no acid issues unless I eat to close to bed time. I do occasionally get a night cough though ( but I also have asthma). So my question is this: is it common for restriction to fade ov…

Today I received the news. I'd finished all of the mandatory pre op tests, Doctor visits, nutritionist appointments, sleep apnea studies, and multiple blood suckings rituals. I'd started this journey after seeing a photo of myself at my 45th birthday. This foreign bloated woman, stomaches resting on the table, boobs resting on the stomachs resting on the table. I took a deep heavy breath, (this was my "IT" moment) and said to myself, "This will be the last year I Celebrate the day of my birth in a size 24...." That was January 23. 2013. Date of surgery is scheduled for June 11, 2013. I will not be a size 24 on January 23, 2014.

Hi all! Can't beleive I'm less than a week away from surgery. I'm 38 and know that I'm doing the right thing but am still pretty nervous about the surgery. I can't seem to wrap my mind around the fact that I won't be hungry. Just a very strange notion for me I've got a really busy life so I don't think I will miss all the food very much. I've got a supportive husband and two wonderful kids ages 8 & 18. I just completed my masters degree and am glad that I get the chance to address my long standing weight issue. I want to be seen for the smart and confident person that I am inside - not the fat & lazy person people perceive from my appearance. I'm all ready…

Hi There, Well my story is long....but I will try to make it short. I've been overweight my WHOLE life. I have lost 60lbs 10 times over. I had Gastric Bypass in early 2001 my starting weight was 280. Out 6 weeks I had lost about 25lbs. Out of the gate I knew I was able to eat more than other people that had this surgery. On the sixth week, I knew something was different. I was able to eat even more than I could following the surgery. I explained to my Doctor and he said I was fine and it was all in my head! I REALLY Hate when doctors say that. Don't you think you know your body better than anyone else? I pushed and he hesitated but sent me down for an Upper GI…

Hello, sleevers! I am so happy I found this place and looking forward to sharing our journeys. I've been overweight for 30 years (since age 8), but never considered WLS. I've gone on every diet, tried every weight loss med, been a vegetarian, a raw foodist, and an exercise nut. I never lost more than 15 pounds. I am capable, however, of gaining 30 pounds in a month. I do not have PCOS, thyroid issues, or even insulin resistance - my body just doesn't want to let go of weight. Most recently, I spent four months in residential treatment for binge eating disorder, where I was treated like an anorexic. They took away all my exercise (had JUST gotten into a regular cardio/re…

HI, I had my sleeve on April 22, 2013 in Christiana, Delaware. I say that second time worked, because in April 2007, I had the lapband and it had to be removed with emergency surgery 36 hours later because of a tear in my esophagus. It took me 5 years to seriously look at bariatrics as an option again. I am so thankful I did. My weight had skyrocked to 303 lbs in August 2012. Between the classes and the two weeks of Optifast pre-op I was down to 266 on the day of surgery. Today I weighed myself and I am down to 255. My pain initially was terrible along with lot of nausea, I did however have alot of scar tissue that had to be removed and my surgery was twice as long…

I DVR'd the show Intervention the other night and just finished watching it. It was about a young girl addicted to heroin. Now some of you may know, I'm divorced 2 yrs this month, I literally watched my ex become an alcoholic the last 3 yrs of our marriage and I thought "how dare you do this to us". I didn't want the divorce, he did, in the end because I wouldn't go out partying with him, said we never did anything together and we had grown apart, well he had met someone too. Anyway, getting back to the Intervention, I never understood how anyone could be addicted to drugs or alcohol and do that to themselves and to their family members but tonight I looked at my mom …
