That my surgery date is August 4th, how weird is that?!?! I feel like all I think about is this surgery and now I am having dreams about it too. The weird thing is I'm not even finished with my supervised diet yet lol. I did all the other testing already. May 28th (my bday) is my last weigh in for the supervised diet. How weird would it be if aug 4th is my surgery date lol. I hope not b/c that's entirely too far away. I'm aiming for the end of June!

Hi All, (probably the most honest thing I have ever posted) I am new to online forums.... I thought to sign up in order to track my weight loss as well as get to know others who are going through the same experience. I had my GB operation on the 3rd of June 2013, through Belgium Surgery Services. I found the whole process very quick, and the hotel we stayed in was quirky... an old prison! The reason why I had the gastric band operation was to get my life in order. I have always been the girl 'who has a pretty face' and people always said; 'if only you lost some weight, you would be so beautiful', 'if you was to lose a stone or two you would be stunning'.... The t…

Hello everyone! Well...I'm officially banded. I had my surgery at 9 Friday morning and stayed in the hospital one night. I was not too excited about that, but now I'm really glad that I did. You know...you read everyone's stories and experiences and you feel somewhat prepared, but it's a whole different thing when it is happening to you. The worst part of everything has been the nausea. Saturday after I got home I felt pretty damn good. Even walked around the block in my neighborhood to help dissipate the CO2, etc. Yesterday (Sunday) was much, much rougher. First of all, I was glued to the toilet all day. People talk about constipation, but I had the complete opposite …

I'm 13 and extremely overweight. I'm planning on getting the surgery this summer and I am really nervous. I've done research but I know research won't completely prepare me. What should I expect and what is the hardest part of the lap band journey?

I thought I'd put it out there to see of anyone has had this happen as I've really only seen it happen to others at weeks 5 or 6 and then later on. I'm 4 and a half weeks post op and I've lost 8kg (17lb) which I'm thrilled with but I haven't lost any weight since 2 weeks post op. Is this normal?

Surgery went well! Slight pain near port incision and a little gas pain. Overall I feel better than expected. My biggest issue is how to stay hydrated. I am not a fan of sweets so the sf popsicles & sf drinks are hard for me. Just trying to sip a little plain water every few minutes while awake. Not sure how I will handle the protein drinks...struggled during pre-op. Is there a protein drink mix that isnt chocolate, berry or vanilla? I just do not have a sweet tooth at all. Any suggestions?

Hi all, My name is Aliese and I just joined the VST site yesterday. I am about to embark on a new journey. An attempt at becoming a healthier me! I won't bore you with a bunch of details about my health issues but let me just say, that I think this is the right step for me. I am in the Pre-Op phase of getting the Gastric Sleeve. I'm on day 2 of my 5 day liquid diet. My surgery is scheduled for June 13, 2013 with Dr. Tiesenga, out of The Chicago Center for Bariatric Surgery. So far I am experiencing headaches and it's probably from the low caloric intake. I am diabetic, so my sugar normally runs high (around 120 fasting) but this morning it was 82. Now that may be in t…

Just accomplished one of my goals, down 60 lbs. This journey is not easy but so worth it. I did want to mention, however, that yesterday I tried chicken for the first time and it did not settle well. I had a lot of grumbling in my stomach and pain. I did chew well and ate slow, I always do. It even hurt to drink Water an hour later. I have tried turkey and pork before and did fine, so I think I have to wait for little bit on chicken, which is my favorite. Has anyone else had trouble with chicken? I'm almost 5 weeks out.

Hello everyone. I have been following the forum now for about 5 months when I started the process of this surgery. I wanted to make sure I was a canidate and that my insurance covered it (It does!! 100%!! no deductible even). I have been approved and my surgery is scheduled for June 24th. I am excited, but at the same time very scared. I think because I have failed so many times at this battle my mind has a hard time believing this is it...make sense? I have to start my pre-op liquid died the day I go in for teaching on the 11th, but I am going to start a pre pre-op diet today. My hope is to go through the withdrawls from sugar and cokes now rather than post op.…

Hello everyone. My name is Mary and I am new here. Had my surgery August 24,2012 and am down 95 pounds so far. Seem to be at a major stall now and trying to get out of it. I am type 2 diabetic and went from uncontrolled blood sugars before surgery to now they are controlled. Not off meds yet but getting there. My health has improved greatly as a result of this surgery and I would not change a thing. Looking forward to getting to know people who have had the same surgery.

Hello!! I'm an almost 49-year-old, pre-op sleeve hopeful. I made my initial surgeon visit 5/3. I've done my mandated psych eval. I've met with the nutritionist and in 2 days, I do my EGD. My understanding is that after those results are received, the surgeon's office will submit my preauthorization to my insurance. I've tried to make sure I dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's, but yet now I find myself becoming extremely nervous. What if they actually approve me!?!?!? Anyone out there find theirselves playing mind games while they were waiting?? Please tell me I'm not the only one.

A month ago I applied for a new position within my company it is a few steps higher than where I am but I qualify for it based on my newly achieved bachelors degree however the I finally got called for an interview I will be interviewing and they are saying they want to fill the position quickly which usually means it's a busy position and they can't afford to have it take it for long with this in mind I am worried about telling them about my surgery which Should be getting scheduled for the end of July early August do I tell or do I wait I am worried that if I tell it also have a time's my chances of possibly doubling my income

Hello, My name is Kathy and I am a whale (sorry but that's how I introduce myself, I say it before anyone else says it) I have been obese all my life. I have tried every diet and eating plan I could afford to try. I also tried several medications like Dexedrine and I am currently on Victoza to try to lose weight (I am not a diabetic...yet). My doctor sent a referral to a surgeon here (I am in Nova Scotia, Canada) and we were told it would be a 10 year wait before I would even be seen in consultation. Well, after one year I was having a very low day and I wrote a letter to the surgeon and two months later I got a call to attend a weight loss surgery group meeting. T…

I have been off this site for a while and decided to come back to see if I am not alone in this! I know we all have different experiences, but mine seems to be unique! Has anyone had lap band surgery and when they were intubated their vocal chords were damaged? Well I hope I am alone or if there is someone out there who has experienced this, please look me up! I had surgery on 4-1-13 and when I had the surgery the anesthesiologist never came to have a talk with me, she sent her assistant, and well just asked if anyone in my family or if I had ever had problems waking up after surgery, etc... anyway, I have no voice, a week after the surgery I was in the ER with what t…

Hi everyone. I just found this forum while doing searches about gas pain after banding. I decided to join and make my first post. I just had my band put in over my RNY gastric bypass. (May 1st for the band, 2/2004 for my first surgery.) I stayed in the hospital the first night and they practically rushed me out the next morning into the discharge lounge. I think I am doing pretty well... At rest, I have no pain from my incisions and I am pretty mobile. I have some limited pain when I'm getting up, and a decent amount of gas pain periodically. I haven't had my first bm yet, but hoping that well come soon and help push some of the gas out. I do release gas after…

Hi everyone. I just joined this website today and am excited to have found a place that offers so much support and advice. I have struggled with my weight all of my life, yo yoing between a size 4 and a size 24. I have tried exercise, diets, juicing and Weight Watchers, but have never been able to keep the weight off. I am hoping that my gastric sleeve will help hold me accountable to healthy eating and that this support group/ the support of family and friends will help me to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am scheduled for surgery on 6/27/13 and am on day 2 of my pre op diet. I'm kinda cranky but doing ok I look forward to getting to know everyone. Right now I am defin…

Had my second fill yesterday and I've been in misery since trying to eat dinner last night. I didn't know much about what he did but today found out he went from 2.5cc to 9cc...water was going down fine but when I tried to eat last night it got stuck and I puked and puked all night. Finally about 2am I got to sleep but was back up at 6am. It took me about an hour to get my protein shake down this morning and have been sipping water through the day. Did another protein shake tonight for dinner and again am sipping on water. Is this feeling of tightness normal after such a big jump in the amount of fluid added to the band? I wasn't expecting it to be such a HUGE difference.…
