Hi all, was banded 3 years ago and loved it, I lost about 55 kilos. I actually had a 'life'. I was able to buy clothes that i actually liked and not anything that i fit into, i felt so healthy, the confidence was great, i loved dressing up in front of my daughters and then hearing them say " oh mum..... you look beautiful", i loved how i learnt how to run and then competed in marathons........ it was all great! until, i began vomiting everyday in January this year for 4 weeks, to the point where I couldn't even keep sips of water down. I became so malnutrition that I was forced to get me band removed because it 'slipped'. After the surgery to remove the band, i was confid…

I went to get a barium swallow this morning and found that my band had slipped. I have had problems for a year now and couldn't take it any more. My boyfriend wants me to have it completely removed but I'm scared about gaining weight back. I've lost 110 lbs! What do they need to do to correct the slip? The band is completely empty so that isn't the problem. Waiting for the dr to call me back to see what the next step is. I've had the band for 5 years and started having problems last year. I was told I had reflux and to take a medication. I was still having pain though and it was stopping me from being active. I did some research and found out that it could be a slip and t…

Hi all! I've been lurking on this site on & off for the past year and thought I would finally say hi. I attempted last year to get approved for lapband with a BMI of 39 with no comorbidities but I was told no. Was definitely discouraged - I said forget this & tried WW and saw little success - actually gained . After talking it over with a friend who had the WLS - encouraged me to try again this year ... This time I met the 40 BMI - only time I've been thankful for being fat. Last week I meet with the surgeon, in total agreement that I'm a good candidate, heard back yesterday to start scheduling the pretests that my insurance requires - meeting with the dietit…

My dr doesn't offer anything for gas excep walking (which I have been doing all day). I brought done gas x strips with me, is there any harm in using them on day #1?? This gas is awful. Any of y'all use the gas x strips while still in the hospital?? Thanks!!

  13. Well, I am 7 months out & I spent 10 hours in the ER last night & this morning. I will be 7 months out on the 27th. I thought that I had this sleeved life under control! Well, I know we never stop learning and this definitely applies to the sleeve. I have been very good about getting in my required Protein & Water with a few missteps here & there. Yesterday I went to help my grandmother with her massive garden. I made myself a Protein shake worth 30g of protein & drank that before I left knowing the rigorous physical work that was ahead. I drank water before I got there. Water after about 2 hours of work & water another 2 hours later. That was no…

After reading pages and pages on a previous topic about "regretting this whole thing," the OP repeated over and over about doing this for her health....not looks. Am I the only person who did this to look good? Yes, the health benefits are WONDERFUL...no arguments there. But I went into this because I wanted to look better..which in turn makes me feel better...physically and mentally.. Maybe it's my age...60...but the closer I get to the end of my life...the more I wanted to end things looking the best I can. My biggest fear is that people would file by my casket saying..."she never did lose that weight.". Lol!

I just got word yesterday that I was approved for my surgery for July 3rd; I couldn't be more thrilled! I am so excited. I had to transfer to a different surgeon, though, because after months and months of being promised that my surgeon's office would pull through, they weren't able to be covered under my insurance. I'm okay with this because I "clicked" better with my new surgeon...she didn't pressure me to pursue a different procedure. My first surgeon told me I would not be successful with Lapband because as a woman with my BMI, I have too much weight to lose and my "hormones would be working against me." I understand his medical and professional expertise; however, I …

My health declined and as of 2002, I became disabled. My goal, at that time, was to pursue weight loss surgery, lose the weight, regain a healthier Me and go back to work. The plan didn't work too well. Over the years, I researched weight loss surgery. With my insurance (medicare), it took awhile to find a provider that would accept the insurance, not to mention, medicare is very picky. After alot of ups and downs, I went to Mexico in 2008 and got my Sleeve. There were some co…

  22. Hi everyone and thanks for being so open and honest. It helps to educate and prepare those of us beginning this journey. My surgery date is July 2 and have been on my 2 week pre-op diet for almost a week now. It's not too bad and I can tell I'm losing inches and already feel much better. I am 57 yrs old and weigh about 320. I've always been healthy and active but over the past 6-8 years, have allowed my priorities to change. I hated hearing myself make excuses for my current state (I travel, I work 60 hours per week, I have people I have to take care of, yada yada yada), when in reality, what I should have been simply saying is, "I make bad choices". So, I realized…

I had surgery 2 months ago and although I saw my portion size go down I was really frustrated to see that I wasn't losing the weight. A week ago I had my 3rd fill and omg... I can bearly get food down. Not sure if the dr wanted to stop my complaining or really help me, the thing is that after two bites I literally have to push it out bc if I try to keep it in it really hurts. Could this be a sign that I need to unfill a bit or should I give it time to get used to it? If I stick to soups and puddings its not bad but I dint want to eat soup for the rest if my life....

I think I have lost another 4lbs which would put me at 22lbs down. I am a little nervous about the fill but I know I will be fine because my mom will be there for support. Even though I have not lost a lot I am already starting to feel better. Everyone tells me I can tell you have lost weight but I can't. My mom tells me to pick up a 20lb bag of dog food this will let you know just how much weight you were carrying around with you that makes me feel so much better.

  37. I can't seem to get the five protein drinks in that I was told to drink every day. On day two after surgery, I drank just two and on day three I am having my third at dinner time. I get the stuck feeling from the drinks and from water too if i sip more than one gulp at a time. It takes me about an hour to drink a cup of the protein drink. Then I am extremely full for hours. Also I have had to cut my daily pills in half because I had terrible chest paid from swallowing one of them. I'm concerned is this normal? Will I one day be able to eat food again?

  38. I am having my surgery in August. I still haven't made up my mind to do it with plication or without. I was just wondering if anyof you have had the lapband with plication and how it worked out for you. Thanks in advance.

In early April, my gallbladder went suddenly and I had to have that removed. During this time, my Grandma (whom I was extremely close to) was in hospice. I was by her side when she died 3 weeks later. A week after she passed, I was in the hospital again having a tummy tuck/skin removal/hernia repair surgery. A couple weeks into that healing process, I had my first severe MS exacerbation in 3 years. During that time, my uncle also suddenly and unexpectedly died of a Pulmonary …
