Hello Sleever People! I had my surgery January 25, 2010 with Dr. Aceves in Mexico and have never once looked back. I was on this board pretty much 24/7 pre-op and for a long time post op and one of the things that I desperately wished for more of was feedback from people that were "long term" sleevers. We seem to be few and far between and I swore I would provide regular updates... fail!!! And I apologize to any of you that, like me, wish for more of the "big picture" - no pun intended! It's true that we simply get on with life after surgery and before we know it, life has been blowing by and suddenly it's been some fantastic years gone by - you'll see, trust me! So…

Today I went to work after one week of being banded. I really thought I would be able to handle my job. I could not do anything. I felt like my staples and stitches were ripping from my skin. I couldn't bend or lift anything more than 5lbs without feeling bad back pains. so I told my boss I was not feeling well and she was upset but told me to take another week off. I was really upset because I let my team down and I let myself down. Financially, this will hurt me but I had to chose my health over my job. I am going to the er tomorrow because I really think I am dehydrated and sorry to say but constipated as well. I took some medicine ten minutes ago so I am hoping for th…

It's been a year this week. I am headed to the beach. It's also my husband and my 5 year anniversary. My surgon never set a goal and my personal goal was based on bmi. I haven't technically hit reached that personal numbers goal yet but here are some goals I have met: I can now run 20 minutes comfortably without walking so I jog 40 mins 5-6 days a week. Couldn't even shuffle quickly forward (what jogging used to look like) for 3 minutes pre surgery without gasping like a fish out of water. I had to buy all new clothes. All new. Bras undies and shoes too! I sleep naked and walk around naked IN FRONT of my husband. I used to be too ashamed and would change clothes qui…

Im 29 years old i wieght 283 lbs and 5'2". I was schedule for the gastric sleeve march 29th 2013. On March 25, 2013 I was having very painful abdominal pain, the following morning I went to the er, I was there for about 9 hours to have the dr. Tell me I was about 10 days pregnant. ( my husband and I have been trying for about 7 years to get pregnant the drs have been saying im not ovulating because of my wieght) I was so excited... but that meant no sleeve. I have been doing the liquid diet and only had 4 days until surgery. I lost 11 lbs. April 2, 2013 the pain was back with vengeance and I was schedule for an ultrasound that day anyways so I just waited until my a…

I had my sleeve surgery10/15/2010, where I had a gall bladder removed two hernias repaired. Lost 14 lbs 5 days after surgery...no longer taking any diabetes meds, high blood pressure, and a water pill to reduced retention in legs. Started out staying on the program for September 2012. Then alot of health issues started up on my wife. Climbing stairs was getting difficult. So down-sizing the town home we were renting to 2x2 apartment and downsizing my studio was an added stressor. That's only in in 2012 and found out that we have to move again because they were closing down the place we just moved in and add stress I started to nibble on snacks to cope with trying to ma…

Just wanted to pop in and let you all know that life is good. Two years ago today I had my VSG by Dr Umbach in Las Vegas (Baby!). I got to my current weight 8 months post op. I am not posting any new pictures because the ones in food I can consume, which is what I was looking for all along. It has been a tough road, for sure, but one I would travel again tomorrow. As a lot of people have voiced, my only regret is not doing it sooner. My advice to others researching the sleeve or recently sleeved, is to right-size your expectations. Research the bejesus out of this. Understand the complications and the risks involved. Not everyone will lose 80% of their excess…

I was bannered on the 15th June and I'm ment to be on Soft foods, I get bored quickly with eating the same foods all the time. I have basically lived of mash with something added (Ie mince, tuna, carrot, sweet potato) to it for 2 weeks now and I'm getting sick of it. Since I started my pre op diet I have stayed away from bread and Pasta and that has been fine but I need new ideas for meals. Help please! X

Well, Wednesday is my Surgical consul with Dr. Woodman. I'll receive my pre-op & post-op dietary education, as well as my surgery date. I'm so psyched to have the surgery, I'm like a 10 year old anxiously awaiting my birthday. Pretty symbollic when you think about it; The surgery being the rebirth of the "new me!" I've purchased baby food, broth, whey protein, and other post op items to kick off my journey towards 200 lbs. After losing more than 50 lbs before approval, my prescription meds and inability to cope with my osteoarthritis pain and a very painful hernia has triggered a gradual weight gain since April. Excercise restrictions are so frustrating!!!! I plan on…

I'm sad that I didn't find this sight/app before I went through the surgery. I did all my research online and somehow missed this one. I went through the pre-op pretty much alone and had my surgery on 28Jun13 ... so I'm just about 10 days out and doing "ok" ... Didn't have too much pain or discomfort actually and was up and walking that same afternoon. Was out of the hospital in 2 days... I'm taking it slow on the food. after completing the first 7 days of liquid and Soups, tried a scrambled egg at 8 days ... that didn't go over too well ... so waited and tried again this morning and found success, so slowly starting the "soft" food phase. With the pre-op …

hello, I have a million questions about lap band surgery. I'll be doing some independent study on this forums as well as discussing with a couple of doctors. I live near detroit and currently have HAP Premium insurance. I believe they require 12 months of physician recommended weight loss program. I don't expect any answers at this point because I will probably find them when I read over the forums, but just to sort of list the questions I have currently I'll be adding them to this post. Recommended surgeons in the detroit area? Has anyone had issues with HAP insurance? How long is the standard waiting period before you can schedule a surgery? What is the p…

I was banned June 4th, so it's been about a month. I go July 3rd for my first fill. Why can't I stop eating the same foods that got me to where I am today. I am so angry & frustrated!!!! I'm not losing weight and I'm pretty sure I've gained in the past 2 weeks. I'm back to the same eating habits as pre-surgery. I did great following all the guidelines before surgery and even lost weight. Now I feel like I'm back at square one. Maybe I'm just expecting too much (;

I'm not looking for a quick fix, I'm looking to prolong my glorious life. Being the gestapo I am, I googled the crap out of bariatric, and after getting the green light from my husband - I made my decision. Called Tricare (I have Tricare Prime) and they told me what I need to do to get it approved. Can I tell you how crazy excited I was to find that not only do they cover bariatric surgery, there is a good chance that I will pay NOTHING. Wait....WHAT....like zero dollars??.. ..is this real life!??!?!???! About a month later, we went home to Austin (hubby was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii at the time) for Thanksgiving vacay. I was going to call and schedule Dr appoi…

After al long long long thinking process and weighing the pros and cons I've decided to weight on getting the surgery, I'm going to do the shakes for as long as I can if it takes a year it takes a year. I'm going to try that and see if I can do it on my own. I hope I can do it. I hope I'm making the right decision. I'm just not able to get over the chewing, the small bites, the vitamin problems etc. I hope I'm making the right choice.

I got the Lap Band 4 years ago. I went through a traumatic situation right after. Then shortly began a new career that is very intense. Shortly after that began working the night shift for 5-6 nights, 12hr shifts. It's all been so much and just adjusting has kept me from seeing doctor and focusing on losing weight. I made appt for 7/18 and can't wait to tell doctor to lets move foward. He refused to fill me in the past due to the heavy drinking I was doing. I have stopped and ready. But where do I start?

Hi all. I think this is my fist post. And I'm coming with a question. I was sleeved on June 26th, and had absolutely no complications. No nausea, pain, reflux at all. In fact, I remember telling my doc I didn't even feel like I'd had surgery. Flash forward to today. After being able to eat 6 ounces of yogurt last night, I became worried about my intake. I'm hearing about problems ingesting, mbut I have none of that. In fact, I had a Protein shake this morning and another just now (4 pm). While I'm not starving, I don't feel full. Sill craving a sloppy joe sandwich I saw earlier, though my stomach's not growling o anything. In addition to my two shakes, I have…

Hi all, I'm getting worried. I had my sleeve gastrectomy on the 19th May, and I have just gained 2 pounds. I understand that due to surgery there is swelling, with the gas and IV drips, but I haven't managed to have a bowel movement and I am wondering if something may be wrong. I would appreciate some help from those who have had similar. If this is normal, how long is the average before you start to lose weight? I am drinking plenty of liquids without any problem and strictly following the liquid diet given by the hospital.

Hi Everyone! I have lurked on your boards and learned alot over the past several months. Thank you! Finally joined today - surgery is July 10 - ****'s gettin' real : ) My surgeon has us do a 2 week preop diet- 1200 cal - 4 protein shakes and 2 low cal/fat/carb meals a day that can sub for 2 of the shakes. I have not been able to stay on a calorie restricted diet for even one day in so long, let alone 1200 calories. The preop diet has helped me develop even more faith in the success of this method. I honestly thought I would be really really struggling and maybe not able to do the preop diet. I have been anti-protein shake for many years, but I am a convert now! They rea…

I've been struggling with my weight since I was a child...Always gaining and never losing. Excercising, watching what I ate. Green Juicing & organic eating. Cutting back the salt, decreasing the sugar, omiting the bread, bagels & donuts. Stoping the fast food quick trips, increasing the steamed veggies, and loving fish & fowl. Drinking Water, carrying water. Drowning in water. I have water in my car, my desk drawer, a bottle in my purse...It became my newest accessory. I've done Nutri System, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and starving. I've used videos, joined classes at the gym, water aerobics, kick boxing, walking & jumping rope around the t…

Good morning, I am one moth and a week post op, I lost 28lbs so far and I am to stuck, I haven't lost an ounce since June 21st, I was told my body was in shock and went into starvation mode, I've been eating more solid foods now and still nothing, also started walking 3 to 3.5 miles a day. Hi everyone, I just had surgery yesterday and am home tonight. It went well, however the gas is really bad and the feeling of bowel cramping. Obviously the general stomach area is sore, but I'm managing with the pain meds. I did read that Gas-X strips are very helpful as is Miralax for a bowel movement. Any advice for a newbie?

Ive had my GS since Feb. of 2009 and in the begining it seemed to be pretty good. but then I stopped losing weight and actually gained back most of what I lost. I got so frustrated & depressed I I began not to care anymore. I seem to be able to do well for a bit but then Im back to eating unhealthy, and sometimes eating more than I should or need to. My son had a GS done last October, he has had tremendous success & I am SO proud of him you cant even imagine. I thought for sure his success would inspire me, & it does, at times. WHY CAN'T I STICK TO THIS ???? Anyone with some suggestions please please share. msg me on facebook, Cathy Hurkmans Tolman o…

Okay, I finally made my decision to get the lapband and had my procedure on 06/27/2013 and my first fill is set for 07/25/13.. I'm a bit nervous from all of the posts with the concerns on fills and the pain associated; but hoping for an uneventful transition afterwards. I love working out but most of what I have read from my doctors office is stating that I should wait about 4 weeks before resuming workout.. Is that true for everyone else? I at least want to get on the treadmill or attend my weekly dance class. Any input on working out that anyone can share would be appreciated...

Hi y'all my name is Felicia and I had my surgery June 27th at 1030am I was a nervous wreck my highest point of anxiety was the IV being put in which ended up not being that bad. The surgery itself was fast of coarse because your under. Upon waking up I felt no soreness just very groggy and was asked to take deep breaths I did and thank god I had no nausea or vomiting, they transferred me to my room where I slept most of the day away. Once I snapped out of my drowsiness I immediately asked to walk and they allowed me to. I had no help getting out of bed there was pain but I could handle it. I walked the same day of surgery 4 times it was the best way to help with the gas i…
