Work after 1 week post-opt.

Recommended Posts

Today I went to work after one week of being banded. I really thought I would be able to handle my job. I could not do anything. I felt like my staples and stitches were ripping from my skin. I couldn't bend or lift anything more than 5lbs without feeling bad back pains. so I told my boss I was not feeling well and she was upset but told me to take another week off. I was really upset because I let my team down and I let myself down. Financially, this will hurt me but I had to chose my health over my job. I am going to the er tomorrow because I really think I am dehydrated and sorry to say but constipated as well. I took some medicine ten minutes ago so I am hoping for the best. I really could use a desk job, even though that can be stressful too. Well I thought I would just update everyone on my condition and maybe someone who has experienced this could give me some tips on what I could do differently.

I had my sx on Thurday and went back to work 10 days later. I'm a nurse in the ER so I was really nervous. I was just extra careful, I didn't pull or push on pts for probably 2 weeks after returning. I found that wearing a tight undershirt really helped, kinda like a girtle? It tooks like a tank top but it really held me in? If I didn't wear it I felt really sore. I always always always kept a water bottle close.

I wish I could give you some pointers but I experience none of that. I was not sore after surgery, no staples I didnt have to get the pain medicine filled. In fact my doctor told me I better slow down. Everyone is different and I have read many times on here and I agree that people say just listen to your body.

thank you all, I do feel a little better this morning. I am still tired but my back pain is gone. I just think I over did it at work yesterday and the rain and humidity did not help it much. my job doesn't offer light duty options so I just have to try to rest and keep trying to get better.

I understand that being out of work can be a hardship, but I have to tell you friend take the time off! You only have one life and one body and work will still be there. Use FMLA to secure your job for you if you have to, it's a law and you are entitled to take the time you need to take care of yourself.

You just had major surgery, and you are going to hurt yourself and that can put you out of work and out of commission for a much longer time and worse if your not careful.

You cared enough about yourself to have this surgery and get healthy, so give yourself a break and start off the right way. Take that extra week off. Put your feet up, clear you mind and focus on healing and getting healthy.

Best of luck to you, I can see you’re a strong person and you will do great!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
