Good Morning Everyone, My case has finally cleared clinical review with my bariatric team. On Tuesday I was given a whole list of appointments leading up to and including my consult with the surgeon. These appointments are an abdominal ultra-sound (even though I don't have a gallbladder), an upper GI, visits with the nutritionist and Physicians Assistant, and lastly the surgeon consult. Yesterday morning I had to report to the hospital x-ray dept. for the upper GI. I showed up early (before they opened) because I have a severe allergy to hand-sanitizer. It affects my breathing real bad. I have COPD and asthma. It is real hard to keep away from the stuff especial…

Hello all, I am new to this site and am learning a lot set to have surgery next month. I wanted to get some clarification on the proteins drink. I just saw that you posted the more protein it is better and less calories. Does that apply to the total fat or over all calories. I am still learning and I want to know what to look for when shopping. I did see Isoplus, Lean body and muscle milk. What would be the best protein to but as well as ready to drink ones? Thxs for your answers

A friend brought up going to get snow come ice and they have sugar free calorie free carb free flavor toppings. Do you thjnk this would be ok? Not much difference than Chrystal light is it?

So here is the update: I was approved last year then lost my job and my insurance....Got a new job and decided I was strong enough to start everything over again. So fast forward to today. As of today I have had my initial nut appointment, two dietician appointments, and surgeon initial appointment. I need no preop testing. I have to do a total of 6 months of dietician appointments because of my insurance. I am not rushing into this but I can't wait to get to surgery. I need to have my followup nut appointment which is scheduled July 17, 4 more dietician appointments (1 each month), and whatever else they surprise me with. I can't have surgery anyways until Sep…

Hello to all, I am scheduled to have surgery June 25, 2013. I am not to concerned although I must have to admit the thought of liquid diets and the small amount of food in take is beyond my comprehension. I have never had any type of surgery before but feel at peace with this. Congratulations to all of you that are going through this journey and it is truly amazing to read some of your stories. I began loosing weight April of 2012 and at that time weighed 426 lbs. I have lost just over 100 lbs and have been at the same weight for the past five months so on to the next step. I feel I have a wonderful Surgeon named Dr Daniel Gagne of the West Penn Medical Group in Pittsbu…

I need some words of wisdom please from the Lap Band Veterans. May 22nd I had my band done. Two weeks later I went in and lost 13 lbs. Today (just barely over a month in all total) I only lost 4 additional pounds. So I'm only down 17 pounds. I struggled this past month as I felt hungry, I felt no different unfortunately. Today I got my first FILLER done at 3cc's. I'm on liquids today and puree diet the next two days. My doctor emphasized that I must not stretch my pouch. I want to succeed at this and I can be my own worst enemy. Suggestions as to how to move forward in a positive direction? Thank you for your help.

I have learned a lot. Now my date is approaching fast. The house is clean, laundry all done, my liquids and mushies have been stocked/prepped and I am packed. I have done all I can to prepare, now the wait.... Tomorrow morning I leave bright and early for a 4.5 hr drive to Toronto Canada and check into a hotel room. Friday morning I go into surgery at 8:30 am. It is so close and I am half freaking out and half excited to start my new life! I have had cold feet and a twisting knot …

Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and to the gastric sleeve community at large. I have an upcoming surgery date of 16 July 2013. I am very excited, and these next few weeks feel like they are just crawling by. I am here seeking a support system from those that have gone before me as I venture into this new lifestyle. Like everyone else I have fears and concerns but they are being kept in check by my excitement. I will post my questions on another board if I don't find answers already there. I look forward to getting to meet everyone and sharing more about myself as time goes on. Cheers,

Hello Everyone, I am completely new to the whole process of sleeving. To let you know a bit about where I am at, I have just had my first visit with the sergeon who has explained to me how much the surgery will help me personally and that his staff would help me with the remainder paperwork. I have had blood work done, and was informed that I would need to go through a 90 day process with a dietician, and since my BMI was 42, I will only need pre-op routine exams, (ekg, xray, etc) a eval from a psych, and afterwards my paperwork will be submitted to Aetna for approval. I have checked with my insurance and saw that I do meet all the criteria for the procedure and that the …

These are my opinions mind you and my experiences so everyone is different remember that. I studied all options and came to these brief conclusions. lap band? No i did not want a foreign object inside my body. Also you have to go in every once in awhile to have it tightened. Just on that alone I was speaking with someone and he said "oh i love it cause I don't go in around the holidays so I can eat a lot" Really? His appearance was still quite large and gee after 3 years post op is when I saw him. This is a decision for life not convenience so I said no to this cause I can cheat on that diet. Why do it in first place knowing I can cheat. Bypass? Hell no, to many ho…

I'm sitting on a plane right now. I looked at the narrow seats, I ALWAYS have to lift the armrest to fit and ask for a seatbelt extension. I was so worried because this plane is packed. Anyway I fit in the seat and was able to buckle my seatbelt without an extension! Does that count as a Non Surgical Victory? I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!! This may seem minor to someone else but I actually have years in my eyes. I have not been able to sit in a regular airline seat for over 26 years!

  25. I had my surgery June 21. My surgeon, Dr. Chapman, had me complete 2 weeks on a liquid diet. I lost 19 lbs. the surgery and recovery was much harder than I thought. I had 3 c-sections, so I assumed this would be a piece of cake, being as it was laparoscopic. I was wrong. The nausea was awful. I spent 2 nights in the hospital then came home. The doctor has me on water and protein shakes for two weeks. I am going to wait until my 2 week post op appointment to get weighed. The worse thing now is pain in my large incision of the left side of my stomach.

It's so frustrating when you try and can't make progress. I've walked 10 miles at a time in the middle of the day trying to loose and nothing. Now if you can't loose anything walking in the middle of the day in this TX heat we have a serious problem. I had my surgery 06/13/2013, day 14 today. I've never posted on here but I've read books worth of posts on here. I had surgery at 3 with Dr. Ramos Kelly in TJ. Got here and was extremely nervous and I started crying on the table when they put me under. Granted I'm only 19. Dr. Kelly is amazing but the nurse are great too however the language barrier is kind of an issue. As for pain, it's awful. I've been crying, screaming, and being rude because I'm in pain. After what I've read, I didn't think it would be that bad. And I'm on some serious pain drugs too. Walking makes me throw up but I still do it. I can't sleep for more than 30 minutes. Please pray for me y'all

So I'm 8 days out from my surgery an had my first doc appt. I was healing up fine up until last night . I think I moved wrong and now a part of my stomach feels like its on fire. The doc said if it continues to hurt see him again. Anyways! In 8 days I've lost 25lbs which is a lot! That's insane and really shocking but I'm glad something is happening considering I always hear about a 3rd wk stall, maybe this makes up for it lol. The surgeon also said I can start eating cottage cheese, yogurt, cream of wheat etc. I'm so excited to try to get my protein from food instead of gross shakes!!
