I had the Roux-en-y gastric bypass thirteen years ago. Withing about a1 1/2 years i went from 280 to 120. I became so anemic that I needed blood transfusions. I had alot of severe stomach pain off and on for years. After about 3 years I started to gain the weight back. For the longest time I had diahrrhea about twenty times a day. I couldn't eat enough to stay healthy. I still have to have iv Iron treatments, I have osteoporosis, and I'm fat again. I've always taken the Vitamins, but My levels of iron, ferritin, b-12, Vitamin d, and folic acid are always too low. I ended up needing a hysterectomy to try and control the anemia. I thought I would be thin forever, …

Hi All!!! A little about me: I'm 27 and my current weight is 259 (wow did I just say that out loud? Lol) oh and I'm 5'5. I just had my consultation with my surgeon on this past Friday and I'm stoked. My surgeon told me that I was a "star candidate" and the insurance rep told me that my insurance was perfect since it would only cost me about $250 out of pocket for the syrgery. The only thing is that I have to wait another 5 mos before I can have the surgery due to insurance requurements (not so perfect after all). So it'll be around December or January before I'm banded. Like many of you I have been battling with my weight as long as I could remember..I was at my small…

I wrote out a version of my whole story and accidentally deleted it. Oops! So this will be much shorter and then I will get back to doing the longer one another time. I am very excited to jump headlong into this journey. I joined this site at the beginning of June and am grateful to so many of you for helping me in ways that you didn't even know that you were. I was lurking in the shadows soaking up all of your knowledge and information and thank you for providing it! Now I have my surgery date: July 1, 2013. I am quite excited, a bit nervous (mostly about starting the liquid diet soon - mainly because I have never done it before). But quite frankly, at 49 yea…

I am scheduled for lap band surgery in a few days but my family and friends keep telling me I'm not heavy enough to need surgery. I've only been on the pre-op diet for 5 days and I've already lost 8lbs. I started out at 203 and now weigh 195. The starting weight amounts I'm seeing on most posted msgs vary from 250-300+ lbs. Did anyone else start out in the low 200's? To me 200lbs on my 5'01 body is definitely unhealthy. Not much support from friends and family who say "of course the doctor says you need it, they need to make money". I've been thinking about Lap band for over a year and have read plenty of good and bad reviews. I think I'm having doubts now or is it jus…

At some future date this will be my success story: Until age 36, I lived my entire life overweight and my entire adult life morbidly obese. I was literally either the fattest kid or nearly the fattest kid in class every year from kindergarten. I had been in and out of weight loss programs from age 11, all with some success in losing weight, all eventually failing when the minor successes or benefits no longer outweighed the level of obsession required to stay on the diet. There were a few times in my life that I managed to reduce my weight so that I was only obese, instead of morbidly obese. I seriously considered gastric bypass in my mid-twenties, but was ultimately sc…

I'm so excited, and scared, and happy, and terrified.... Two weeks from tomorrow, my life will change for the better! I can't wait! Well, sort of... So, a little about myself first, I guess. I've been fighting this lovely battle ever since puberty set in. I'm 40 now, so it's been awhile. I was fairly athletic in High School, so that kept things in check. But, as soon as I went to college, I went from Eating/Soccer/Eating/Wrestling/Eating/Cycling to Eating/Partying/Eating/Sleeping/Eating/Studying, etc. I'm sure many of you can tell the same tale. Even though I've stayed physically active, I just can't keep the weight off. I'm an active Volunteer Firefighter, I …

I can't believe how much my taste buds have changed since surgery. It wasn't all at once, but they are still changing. I discovered Hummus and love it sooooo much. I eat Hummus and 2 Melba toast for a meal and feel like I have had such a treat. So funny to me how different I feel about food. I call my pouch " peanut", pretty weird I know. I consider Peanut a different entity now. I think of feeding Peanut to supply my body with fuel. I no longer had the same relationship with food. I no longer consider food as 1. my friend 2. my comforter 3. my anti-anxiety drug 4. my social drug.......the list can go on and on. My head is no longer looking down, it's looking up. I'm wond…

  24. I highly recommend my surgeon, Dr. Wittgrove in La Jolla, CA. I've had a few setbacks already with gastroentiritis, but its because I misunderstood that I could introduce eggs to my diet, yet my doctor wanted me only on liquids for the entire month because I had a severe hiatal hernia he repaired. So far I've joined the gym, and I'm going to it as well! I hired a personal trainer for once a week, joined support groups, taking my vitamins and protein shakes, yet I feel the need to engage in the kitchen where there is food to prepare my shakes and soups, but I'm never hungry and feel forced to do this when I really don't even want to???? After a slow recovery I was very afraid of vomiting...The worst part was the continued wreching after my sleeve was empty...I was only thankful that I didnt feel any pulling or pain. Tummy still dont feel well now...but think it was from post nasal drip....happened after I ate breakfast... YUCK!

  33. Well, I've made it 1.5 weeks with my band, and I'M IN LOVE WITH IT !!! It's everything I was hoping it would be. I would like to talk about my first couple of days though, in case someone is in my shoes and can find hope in it. I kept hearing that you could "have your surgery on Friday, and go back to work on Monday". Well I was skeptical, so I took Tuesday and Wednesday off as well. Friday after my surgery, I was numbed up pretty well, but then came SATURDAY. I got a little cocky and tried to eat jello, then go outside to do my walking that I was encouraged to do. I felt like I had to burp, but couldn't, and it hurt so bad. Then came the nausea. I kept thinking, "No…

I got on the scal an stripped off everything i coupd and go on the scale. I LOST 18lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my God is good, I just prayed on the way to the office and said Father whatever is your WILL, let it be done. Amen, I really did it !!!!!! On to the next step surgery on Weds 6/12....

  37. I am a march 2013 sleeved. I had neck surgery Nov.2012 and the sleeve four months later. I could not work out becuase I am still recovering from the neck surgery. Then two weeks ago I began to fall and found out that my lower spine had a cyst and I needed surgery again. Two weeks post op and now on a walker. I feel that I am not losing weight because I cannot work out. My pre- op weight was 293. I am now 243 lbs. I don't know if that is normal. I can't work out and I am a vegetarian. I can't find a protein powder that I like. I am only getting about 20 grams of protein in. Any suggestions?

A few days ago, my father's company's insurance changed. Upon looking through the files of what is covered and what isn't it turns out that weight loss surgery is covered. I'm a 20 year old college student and I'm grossly overweight. We've discussed the surgical option a few times, and it had never been an actual option, because it was so expensive. But now, it's an option. I've been doing nothing but researching the options for the past few days. I went to the seminar, and I think I'm going to do it, I scheduled my consultation with the surgeon , it's on Tuesday, I'm really excited. It's the first step on the road to my new life.
