So I was wondering what would make a person get denied for surgery? Does the drs office keep submitting the paperwork or change the paperwork until it gets approved. Surely the patient wouldn't go thru all that time and money and not get approved. Or could that happen? I'm just curious . Any info would be appreciated

Help! I'm almost 4 months post op. (2/4/13). I am so tired all the time. I felt great for the first three months but the couple weeks all I want to do is lay my head down. My weight loss has slowed way down too. I started at 258 and I'm down to 208! I haven't exercised much because I just can't get the energy. Granted I work full time and also care for my elderly mom and helped my husband through two hip replacements but I should be full of energy and I'm not! I'm taking all my vitamins as ordered and was found to be slightly anemic with my blood work in March so they increased my iron but I'm still just blah!!! Any others out there like this?

Hello there. I haven't posted much on here. I'm Sara and I had my surgery on Dec 10th 2012 in Las Vegas by Dr. Atkinson. My husband Sean also had the surgery 1 week before me. He is 9 lbs away from his goal and I'm 26 lbs away from mine. I can't tell you how happy I am that I did this. It was the best decision I ever made. I now can run around with our 2 daughters age 3 and 8. I don't feel the way I used to feel when I look in the mirror. When I was at my heaviest I was 280. The day before surgery my weight was 266 and today it's 176!!! I was in a size 24 pants and 3x shirts. As of now I'm in a size 12-14 pants and a size Lg shirt. I'm also only 5'2''. I wasn't always a b…

I'd been thinking about the band for a couple of years and this December asked my PCP about it and she supported my looking into this/potentially having it done and referred me to a local bariatric surgery practice and my first appt was in Jan. Since then I've seen the nutritionist, psychiatrist, and attended the support groups all required by this practice/my insurance to move forward. My initial insurance application was submit early May and we heard back they wanted a letter from my PCP supporting the procedure and a physical showing I was healthy enough for surgery - both of those things happened this week and my request was resubmit today. now i'm a ball of nerves…

I had the band put in 6 years ago and up until august I was doing fine. Then something happened and I somehow had fluid in the band when there should have been none. It was so tight all I could do was drink. Nothing else would go down. Since then I have found out I have Gerd and I. Lactose intolerant. I can't eat anything with dairy because I get has pains and bloating for days. My boyfriend wants me to get it removed but I am 16 lbs away from my goal and have ready lost 107. I don't want to put it back on. Has anyone had these types of problems?

Ok, I got my lap band in 2006 and I just recently started having trouble with my IBS...my gastro dr. has done a colonoscopy, endoscope with bravo. The endo showed my lap band had slipped up toward my esphogaus (5cm) it's suppose to be at 10cm.....so I go to the dr who put the lapband on with gastro drs report in hand and he say's "gastro dr doesn't know what he is looking at"...so lapband dr removes saline and guess what the nausea stopped....i told him i wanted it removed.... now he wants to do an upper GI and another endoscope. this is getting tiresome....i'm lost i don't know what to do....gastro says its lapband....lapband dr says its not...all i know is i can't lea…

I am coming up on my 1year Bandiversary on 5/30!!!!!!! A lot has happened to me in that year, foot surgery which I regret, knee surgery which was needed and cancer surgery most def needed! With all this I have so far lost 73 lbs! I am down from a 4x-5x to an XL and loving myself again! I had the foot surgery because I was more active and foot was hurting but guess I picked wrong doctor cause foot is worse but working on fixing that! Through my surgeries and also loss of my mother in law I have been fairly diligent on what I eat! I could use an adjustment but due to this last surgery have had to postpone that so I drink water to fill me when I know I shouldn't eat! Thankf…

My VSG Journey began last summer when I tipped the scale at 260 after returning from a family vacation at the beach. I began diet and exercise and lost 20 pounds. After hitting a plateau for several months, I started researching WLS...I had VSG on May 6 and am down 23 more pounds. So, a total of 43 pounds gone so far. My goal is still about 50 pounds away but DANG I'm closer than I was!!!

Hi, had gastric bypass on 05-10-2013. Was not fun the first 2 wks. Had trouble getting in protein shakes and water.. Water is still an issue. Little tedious always sipping. Have had no major problems advancing with foods, Never dumped, and I eat fruit. Like 3 or 4 strawberries or half a banana, I have had pineapple and pieces of apples. Mostly when I am not trying to get protein in like yogurt or cottage cheese, I eat little bowls of steamed spinach, almost every day with spinach or kale and even broccoli. Everything feels fine inside. I have been having an issue with my shoulder blade, but that is years old. Been sitting with ice pack back there. Think it is a little…

Just wanted to share my blog post from my year surgiversary - http://mygastricsleevelife.blogspot.com/2013/05/my-year-surgiversary.html I'm down 92.2 lbs from my weight before my 2-week pre-op diet, lost 56.5 inches throughout my body & have gone from size 30/32W down to 16 regular. I still have about 30-40 lbs to go to reach my own personal goal, but I'm thrilled with my progress and so happy I made this decision last year!! We have a different camera now, so my pictures don't match up completely even though they're taken in the same place in our room.

Hi VST family & friends. I haven't been on the boards here in quite awhile. I took a break to concentrate on my schoolwork which turned into a schoolwork/ we're buying a house start packing break! So, yes, I am moving. My bf & I close on our first owned home in about 4 weeks. On 5/27 was my 6 month surgiversary & I am proud to say that I am down 101 lbs! Woohoo! I can't believe what a difference 6 months can make. I'll have to get new pics up at some point. I know how everyone here loves pics! LOL I have gone through so many changes mentally & physically that I can't even believe it. So many wonderful things. Obviously the 101 lbs gone is nice, but so …

Hello everyone - I haven't logged on in awhile because I was getting a bit discouraged at how much the weight loss slowed down. I'm right at 5 months out and would say that I have settled into a rut. I upped my daily calories because I was really stuck in a stall for quite a few weeks. I had honestly reached the point where I figured I was done losing weight. I started at 257 and I'm down to 190 today. That's 67 pounds in 5 months and I know I couldn't have lost that on my own. I'm happy with where I'm at but I'd still like to lose the last 33. I'm giving myself until the end of December 2013 to do that and it's achievable. That's about 5 pounds a month…

I'm Scott. I'm from Statesville, NC, and my surgery is June 14th. I'm 52-and-a-half and started out at 383 pounds. My diabetes had become largely uncontrolled, and weight loss surgery was strongly recommended by my internist. I, truthfully, didn't think much beyond the Lap Band because I've got some hang-ups about having my anatomy rearranged. My supporting cast includes my folks, my wife, four kids, and two grand kids. My oldest has concerns about a foreign object being implanted into my body. Given the poisons I've crammed into my system over the course of 35 years, I figure a little surgical composite and silicone would probably be a couple of the tamer things…

My breaking point was when I was looking for fun things to do with my son during this upcoming summer, and as a child I loved riding horses so I wanted my son and I to take riding lessons, but when I called around they all had Weight limits. A place actually told me to consider the horse. I wanted to cry, but instead I am using that as my fuel to get healthy (not skinny but healthy) . I also would love to learn how to surf.

Hi Sleevers! I've been torn ever since I've decided that I wanted to pursue bariatric surgery. The two surgeries that I've been torn over has been the RNY and the sleeve. I met with my surgeon for the first time a few months ago and I decided to go with the RNY, I am to the point now where my paperwork can be submitted to the insurance company for approval but I am still not 100% sure that I want to go with the RNY. The weight loss is excellent but I'm scared of the Vitamin deficiencies. I've read several accounts of teeth going bad and having to be pulled out on RNY patients and plus, the potential for Peterson's hernia years out is scaring me. The sleeve seems like …

Today is the day! I am less than 6 months out (sleeved on December 6) and I finally hit 100 lbs down. I started at 290 and am now 190. The big success was when I broke into "one-derland" but this feels really good, too. I work out every day and just ran my first 5k today! I never thought I would say that. I'm sorry if this sounds like gloating, I just want everyone to know there IS hope and you WILL get there with the determination. I still have a long way to go, but I am at the point now that since I am working out consistently, I feel like the sleeve isn't doing all of the work.. I'm doing my part too. I hope that makes sense. Anyways, tonight I'm celebrating with a g…

Hello everyone, my name is Andrea and this is my first post. I am scheduled to have my sleeve on Tuesday, 5/28 at 12:55pmPT and I am so excited, so ready . . .but a little scared (normal, right?). My weight has been a struggle for the last ~10 years and I am so ready to start the next phase of my life where I have a tool that I can use to control it. To tell you how driven I was to take this step - my surgery date is 38 days from my first appointment with Swedish Weightloss Center, 48 days from the seminar I initially attended! I am very lucky to be able to do a private pay and i know that it made it so much easier than struggling with insurance. During the testing I…

I just confirmed my booking and I am super excited. I am also a bit nervous that it goes to plan. I keep thinking that after key hole incisions they might find something that will stop the surgery from going ahead. I have read so many horror stories about this. I have high blood pressure and I'm afraid it has damaged liver or kidneys. Has this happened to anyone or am I panicking too soon!

I just had the surgery and and I had some problems. After the surgery they tell you that you need to walk off the gas in your system. I walked all night and still had problems with nausea and stomach pains. After the upper gi series they realized the band was too tight and removed 3 cc's, I immediately felt better. Has this happened to anybody else?

Hi everyone just saw a list of peoples surgery dates for the month of May but I wanted to see if we can make this list for everyone so Ill start with mine and just copy and paste with your date. If your surgery is before mine just put it on top of mine if its after put it under and then the next person can do the same. If someone is having it done the same day just add your name next to theres (May 29, 2013: erics300, johndoe200) Lets see if this works. May 29, 2013: erics300

Hi everyone!! My name is Kendra and I am new to this forum. This is my first thread so bare with me. I am 35 years, happily married and a mother of 4. I am going to have my sleeve done at Kaiser in so cal. My hubby and everyone else I have talked to about the sleeve are very supportive. Back in 2011, I took the 12 week required class, and thought to myself "ok, I'm going to do this!" Then of all things, at all times, my HOBBY of baking became a business and I actually opened up my own small bakery. So at that time I knew I would just set myself up for failure by going through with the surgery 1) because I'm around sugar all day and have to taste test everyth…

Me- 5'9" Highest Weight 277 Surgery Weight 266 Today's weight 247 Surgeon- Dr. Greg Jossart, San Francisco, CA Surgery Date- May 15, 2013 So, I am new to this site (meaning mostly lurking, reading and learning from everyone) I decided to write my story because I feel like something is wrong with me because nothing is wrong. I read every post where there seems to be some horrible side effect or condition. Don't get me wrong.. After surgery I had an allergic reaction to some pain medicine that I was given and could not function and was kept in the hospital an extra day. I decided to give up all pain meds and felt much better, but during the two days where the h…

I spoke with the co worker and said it had been brought to my attention that she was telling people about my surgery and why was she doing that if we had agreed not to tell anyone. she said she was sorry and said she was jealous because she feels I always get what I want. I told her that that maybe the way it seems to her but that's not true because if that were the case I'd be a millionaire and not need a job! she laughed and I told her that I would support her for her to lose weight but that it would be hard for me to trust her again. and again she apologize and she said she is happy for me and appreciated the fact that I came to talk to her and not want to rip her face…
