On April 24th I will have be banded for one year. Unfortunately, I feel like this has been a very disappointing year due to setbacks, second surgeries and finally having to switch Drs. I have had so many fills I lost count and then having to have a repair surgery and long story short I switched Drs. and got another fill. I am now at only 3cc and still able to eat a lot more but I think I'm finally seeing a tiny bit of restriction. I'm so lost and confused about what I should expect to see and feel considering I've been doing this for what feels like forever but not having success secondary to bad patient care from my dr. I gave up on losing weight when I had so many probl…

Hello Everyone, this is a report for the diabetes people. So before my surgery I had a hb A1c of 10.2 % and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to have the surgery at all because my sugars ran around 290 everyday and so I am proud to announce that my sugars run around 100 or less now and my hb A1c is 5.2%. Praise the Lord, I never took another metformin once I left the hospital on my surgery day. I went down from 278 to 207 in 6 months. I have had alot of plateus but I am making it. I am so proud of all of us that went this route of trying something to help us out health wise. Alot of people ask why did I have the surgery since I seemed so happy with my weight, Well be…

On an even better note I have officially lost 18lbs and my surgery was 10 days ago!! It feels awesome to know the hard work and mental stress is worth it! Couldn't be happier ))))

So I'm scheduled surgery on Monday 4/7 and now that I've read some seriously horrible stories on here, I'm considering canceling my surgery! I was already scared and now I'm petrified! I want to do this for a better quality of life not to be sick or die!!! I don't know what to do now...I'm so confused and afraid to make the wrong decision!

Just found out my surgery was moved up two hours which is wonderful because I was really not looking forward to having dry mouth for that long and hearing my stomach gurgle. I told my 9 year old today in a very generic way and she is ok with it. Thankfully! Usually she is clingy with me and a drama queen. Now I have to pack, take my before pictures, and take my measurements. My stomach is a mess! I feel kind of weepy and nostalgic and sad. I guess just saying good bye to my old life that I was comfortable with is hard even though I know the future is going to be so much better!

So I have been going back and forth with myself trying to figure out if bariatric surgery is the way I want to go and on March 28, 2014 I finally made up my mind! I'm going to go through with it. After 4 months of researching pros and cons and insurance info I finally picked the best surgeon for me and I have an appointment for April 22, 2014. I'm feeling so much anxiety and I just can wait to get this started. I know it's going to be a long 6 month journey of weight management appointments as well as other doctor appointments and approvals but I'm going to do it and can't wait to change my life!!

  19. I had my surgery on February 26... the gastric sleeve. All during my consultations prior to surgery I was never told quite how bad I would feel after surgery. All I heard was that you'd probably not feel a lot of pain after surgery and would be able to get up and walk the same day. What??? I wish someone would have prepared me for what was to follow. I went into this thinking that this would be somewhat of an easy operation. Listen ITS MAJOR SURGERY....... WITH MAJOR SUGICAL RISKS.... DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY. i Think if I had been clear of some of the real life side effects would have been that it wouldn't have been such a shock to me when i woke up after surg…

I had my gastric bypass surgery December 31, 2010. At my 9 months anniversary I had dropped 70 pounds. Due to some major hip issues, I was unable to exercise at all and still lost 70 pounds in 9 months. I was very pleased with this. I had high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and very high cholesterol (I was on meds for all three of these). I'm very happy to say, I left the hospital the following day after my surgery with no meds!! And I've maintained the weight loss and the no med status!!! (I have to admit I have probably gained 2-5 lbs recently). The month after I reached the 70 lb loss, I had major issues with the hip replacement I had one year previous …

Hi all, I've been kind of lurking here for a little while now. My journey began Oct 2012. I did my seminar, and all of my labs, and required nutrition stuff, but my husband would not support my decision. Without his support, this would have been impossible for me because we have two small children. In March of 2013, my PCP put me on blood pressure medication. I again approached my husband about WLS, and he still wasn't supportive. He thought that I should be able to do it the "old fashioned" way, and that I would feel better about myself if I did..... Oh he who has never had to worry about his weight. My husband is one of those people that can loose weight by imp…

I had a conversion from lap - band to sleeve gastrectomy on March 20. All went well until this week when I began having severe acid reflux. I have it 24/7 no matter what I eat. Even when drinking Water. I am so uncomfortable that it even hurts to take a deep breath like its really sore on the inside. If I even slightly bend over the acid comes up into my mouth. I am taking Prilosec once a day. I called my surgeon's office today and was told to increase Prilosec to twice a day and to make an appointment with my gastroenterologist. I couldn't get an appointment until April 14. My entire torso feels sore when walking around. I had gotten over that soreness after su…

As of today, I am 48 hours post. I'm feeling fairly well for a major surgical procedure. Released from hospital yesterday around 3 pm and home around 4. Most of discomfort is originating from laparoscopic punctures. Also some sharp moderate pains that come and go which I believe are gas. Walking is my friend. Last night before bed, I tried to walk 20 laps around the pool. Felt some pulling type of pain on the largest incision. Stopped, took my pain med and slept well from approximately 10 p until 5a. Tried to walk some more this am and felt well until about lap 15. Good news is I'm doing ok on my fluids. By 6a, I have almost consumed 20 of my 40 required ounces…

This is my first time on here. I had my surgery on 3/25/14 which makes it a week as of yesterday. I have to be honest. It was much more difficult or at least different than I expected. I feel as if they warn you about text book feelings post op but not realistic ones. I wish I had a head up on the fact I was going to feel every sip from my throat until it hit my stomach. Or at least a warning that my sense of smell and taste would 180. Other than a few bumps in the road here and there everything has been going fairly well. I'm up and moving and in the first week I'm down 15lbs!!
