I'm just 5 weeks out and I've had some complications which left me in the hospital for 2 weeks but now I'm healing well. I think the early stages are a rollercoaster for everyone and we all have some doubts and regrets but I just wanted to share that it gets better and fast!!. I've lost 38lbs and I can't stop smiling. Good luck on your journeys (First time posting)

I'm having surgery on September 13, and have a wedding reception for my best friend to attend on September 29. I don't suspect that I'll feel much like dancing, and she already knows that I'm having surgery and can't eat or drink, but I definitely want to be there and celebrate this amazing part of her life. Can some of you share how you were feeling that far out? I have had several surgeries before and have a fairly high pain tolerance. This is a revision from a sleeve to the bypass, I just can't recall from when I had the sleeve how I was feeling after 2 weeks... I did go back to work after two weeks with my last surgery, so I'm guessing I'll be okay to go to a re…

My surgeon suspected a narrowing and so gave me a ct scan and that was the problem. I had my ct scan at 1pm and a revision surgery an hour later. iamready4this

I thought I'd write about my journey for the older folks out there considering this surgery. Last Nov I turned 71 and after regaining 50 pounds I had lost two years ago (the story of my life) I could see that if I didn't do something drastic I would spend my remaining years in a wheel chair. So off to a bariatric seminar I went. I was encouraged by all that I saw there and decided to take the plunge. I survived the two week starvation diet with out murdering my husband or eating the furniture and had my surgery on Feb. 4th. I started my journey at 298.5. The surgery was interesting I guess. As they put in the gas to blow me up, the gas hit my vagus nerve and my body…

Hey Guys ! I had my surgery 8/7 and I'm two days post up, I got to be honest and say this gas I had trapped in my chest OH MY GOD! I've never cried so much ever from the pain, even taking a sip of water I'm in intense pain. I've walked three times since yesterday, the nurses tell me they can't give me Gas medicine and I just have to push the gas out. WTFFFF I don't know what to do Guys : (

So today is my first day of a soft food diet. I had my surgery one week ago and today have been adding small snacks in between shakes. I had a 5 wheat this, making sure to chew thoroughly, but it doesn't quite feel right. I have been warned of food getting stuck and I'm wondering.. How do you know if food is stuck and what to you do to get it unstuck?

  13. Hey everyone so I just got sleeved August 7th and let me tell you it was rough. That first day was really brutal for me. The second day got so much better and I had to stay a third day to make sure I was ok. I met some wonderful ladies who also got sleeved same day or a couple afterwards and we all have really been supportive. I just want to know if anyone needs a friend out there we can talk about what to do to help you prepare. Tiffani[emoji1528][emoji757]️[emoji175]

I had my sleeve procedure yesterday. I would like to find out approximately how much you were able to drink at one time? I have only managed to get in 10 oz of water, 3 oz of broth and 3 sips of protein shake for the whole day. Is that normal? My tummy is grumbling a lot but I'm scared to take in too much and get sick.

  16. I am between 8-9 months out and a couple months ago, I'd not been as disciplined. I've been stalled or stuck in the same 5lb range for about 2months. For the last month, I've gotten back on track with what I eat and I've been killing it in the gym. Last week, id dropped 4lbs taking me to 222lbs. This week, I've been working just as hard and I've gained over 5lbs. Can someone shed some light. I'm trying really hard not to cry because it makes no sense.

  17. I had my sleeve in September last year and, for the past 2 days, have been in absolute tatters with stomach pain. generally sore but with severe acute pain at least hourly. I've always had dumping with refined carbs, fats and too much sugar, but the past 2 days, it seems anything triggers it off. My surgeon is far away and, living rurally, the experience base of our local GP on gastric sleeve is slim to none so I thought I'd have a wee check on here to see if anyone had experienced similar or had suggestions of things to try before having to travel in this state to go see my surgeon. Thanks

I went for my 6 week post-op on Tuesday & found out that I have bacterial (walking) pneumonia. I told my surgeon that I was having intermittent sharp pain in my right side, under the rib cage and I mistakenly believed that I had worked out too hard on Monday. He sent me for a ct-scan then an x-ray. I am shocked since I don't have a cough, cold symptoms, no fever, nothing. Post-op I used my spirometer faithfully & never had any breathing problems. Has anyone heard of this complication so far out from surgery?

  23. According to my doctor I can start soft foods when I hit my two week mark which is this coming Thursday. I'm so excited to taste real food again and to chew lol. What are some of your favorite soft food meals and snacks ?

I'm sure my expectations are a little high of how my mind should be functioning at this point after surgery, but my thinking is pretty "foggy." Or maybe lightheaded is a better term. I haven't taken narcotic pain killers since the day after surgery, the strongest thing I'm taking right now is liquid tylenol. I have been meeting my protein goal (70-80g) and my fluid intake goals. I just don't feel very sharp. I'm walking on average 10,000 steps per day and still napping pretty frequently. Any thoughts on why I'm lightheaded? I feel like my calories are on the high side of normal - 400 to 600 - so just not sure where to go from here. Thanks

  26. I am 6 years post op and have gained 35 pounds. I am ashamed and disappointed. I forgot about being a gastric sleeve patient at some point in life and went back to eating all day long and not working out. I know that my problem is not the food itself but my relationship with it. Has anyone else fallen off their wagon so bad that they don't even see the wagon anymore? And if you fell, how did you start to get back up?

Hello! I was sleeved on 7/28 and everything went well. After coming home from the hospital, I developed a nasty sinus infection that has thrown me totally off. Since Sunday, I have had three different liquid meds to take to knock this thing out but I know I am not even close to getting the protein and vitamins I need. So now I'm in panic mode and don't even know what to do. I don't want to eat anything or get out of bed. Any advice/tips to get in as much protein as possible? Also, what vitamins seem to be doing well for everyone? Thanks so much!

  34. How are people doing starting soft foods? My nutritionist has us after 2 weeks, trying soft foods 1/4 cup a day. First, I puréed a peanut vegetable stew and that was wonderful. Next I tried one of the bariatric cheese and refried bean bakes. And that went down well too. I'm following the nutritionist instructions and taking a fingernail size bite and chewing it like 30 times til it kind of melts. The next day, I was waiting for my daughter's camp to be done and drinking camomile tea in a bagel place. I decided to order some lox (smoked salmon) which I knew I would waste, but I took tiny fingernail sized bites and let them melt in my mouth. Total amount I a…

I just got approval for surgery today... scheduling should happen soon. Hooray! But I'm way nervous about water. I'm the WORST about drinking water as it is and worried I'll get dehydrated really quickly. I'm also worried about malnutrition just because there are so many differing opinions. The nutritionist I met with said I can continue with bariatric vitamins but that the most important was first couple of months post surgery to see how I do... did anyone stick with a specific water/vitamin regimen that helped? I'm WAY nervous! Thx

  36. I am 11 days post op gastric bypass and I have had a stapling pain in my lower stomach on the right side. It wraps around to my hip as well. It doesn't hurt if I stay still or lay flat on my back, but once I start moving or lift my legs, it is a stabbing pain that takes my breath away. I've tried heat and ice, but they don't help too much. I'm hoping it just a pulled muscle and not something more serious. It's not a constant pain, bit it comes and goes. I made an appointment for tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

  40. Keeping hydrated is essential to prevent dehydration. Surgeon ordered me to sip one ounce of liquid every 15 minutes. But one ounce i think is not enough to meet the daily requirement to keep hydrated. If i take 2 ounces instead every 15 minutes will it jeopardize or do any harm to my pouch? Just wanna keep hydrated but taking one ounce every 15 minutes seems like a long dreadful thing. Any comments will be appreaciate it.

I was sleeved on Aug. 2. Was able to move fluids up to 1.5 oz/15 min with additional water, but my brain still feels pretty foggy. Not sure what is causing that, I'm sleeping a ton. I've been walking daily, up to 5k steps, and planning on getting to 7500 today. I know that resistance training with a band is a good way to help keep skin toned so I was wondering how soon post op folks started doing that? Any resources would also be appreciated.

I have found that if I have some milk in the morning I am not too hungry during the day but I don't know if milk is the best for my new sleeve. At the moment I am having 125mls of up n go or milk for brekkie, 125mls protein water for morning tea, half a cuppa soup for lunch, juice or protein water again for afternoon tea and half a cuppa soup for dinner. And then approx 300mls water through out the day/night. Does this sound normal? Does it get easier?
