I'm in Australia and I can't get all the great low-cal low-carb high-Protein shakes you guys in the US have, like Premier Protein. Even Syntrax nectar costs me twice what it costs you guys. There are just a few options that are relatively high quality. Optifast VLCD have 17 grams of protein for 152 calories. Musashi has one variety that has 25 grams for 113 cals and one that has 30 grams for 171 (closest I can find to Premier but not RTD). I haven't tried it yet but probably will when my Optifast runs out. There is another brand here called CelebritySlim. They taste great but are comparatively low-protein and high-carb. They also have other things like tea tree o…

Look, you can only drink so many Protein shakes, right? Well last night I stumbled upon a tub of red miso paste in the back of my fridge and heard the proverbial Chorus of Angels! 3/4 tablespoon of miso 1 tablespoon PB2 (plain) 10oz hot Water Whisk to dissolve the miso and PB2 and enjoy! I'd kill a man for some tofu and nori, but I'm still just 3 days out from surgery. Is it a replacement for a Proteins hake? of course not, but it does give you a bump of protein, a new flavor, and I've always fund miso to be so soothing.

I'm planning on making my own broth for the pre & post op phases of my diet. My question is: can I add protein powder to the warm broth prior to freezing? I thought I would make both chicken & beef broth, add protein powder, and freeze in individual portions (ice cube trays). I've read that temps over 140* will cause curdling, but haven't come across any info on freezing yet. TIA

Hi - just getting things ready at home for my return from hospital. I have read about people using ice cubes and water early on and just wondered if anyone used hydrolyte pops - they sound like they could be useful for the first couple of days... But there might be a reason we can't use them. I will ask Dr too - but just putting it out there for now.

I found a recipe for adding protein to Jello and I've come up with some really good mixes but this one is my favorite. I'm on my preop liquid diet and my doctor said this was fine and would probably be fine post op as well. You will need Sugar-free Orange Jello mix Water Vanilla Protein Powder (I used Quest Vanilla Milkshake) Fat-Free (sugar free if you can find it) cool whip or whipped topping (optional) Prepare Jello as instructed on box. Whisk gelatin completely. Add 2 scoops of protein powder and whisk thoroughly. The mix will thicken and look a bit milky. Don't whisk it so much that it's foamy. The protein will separate. Pour into container or individual c…

Discovered a new flavor today. Banana nut muffin.... 1 scoop Muscle Milk cake batter protein powder. 1/2 scoop banana protein powder, 1 scoop Raw Fiber, 1/2 banana, 1 squirt Torani hazelnut syrup, 8 oz water, 8 oz milk, and enough ice to bring it to 24oz. Mmmmmm. I'm almost 11 months out but still have a protein drink everyday. It's fun coming up with new flavors.

I come from a mixed heritage background, with the Italian side of my family being the most recent to come to America just a few generations ago. Anyway, for those of you who are unfamiliar with Spumoni, it is one of my all time favorite Italian dessert flavors, and next to IMPOSSIBLE to find in the rural southern US where I now reside. Basically Spumoni is similar to Neopolitan ice cream except the flavors are Chocolate, Pistachio and Cherry instead of Vanilla, Chocolate & Strawberry. Anyway, I concocted a protein shakes with the flavors and I think it's AWESOME, so I'm sharing it with you: 8 oz. unsweetened Almond Milk 4 oz. water 1 scoop Chocolate Whey protein p…

1 to 3 tsp instant coffee granules (use decaf if your plan requires it) Amount of cold water and protein powder to make up your shake, or a ready-to-drink shake Dissolve the coffee in a small amount of the water. Add the rest of the water and the protein powder and shake! Add ice if you prefer. Add a little more water if you want it thinner. Chocolate protein powder for a mocha, vanilla for a latte. You won't need a sweetener because the protein shake is already sweet.

(Picture at: http://sleevers.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/my-latest-love-fruit-infused-water/) A lot of sleevers have trouble ingesting plain water at first. So we replaced our old water habit with a Propel zero and G2 habit. But by the time you drink the fake sugars in 64 oz of those a day, it’s not really all that great for you is it? So I resorted to making fruit-infused water. It’s really so easy I want to kick myself for not trying this before. At first I thought I needed fancy equipment but it turns out, you really don’t. Sure you could buy one of the cutsie bottles with a core made specifically for infusing fruit. Or you could do what I did, which is take a big ole R…

I experimented today and it turned out quite good! In my Nutribullet I combined: 1 scoop Nectar Fuzzy Navel Whey Protein Isolate (23g protein) two small handfuls (just under 2 cups?) of raw spinach, about 1.5 cups of frozen diced peaches, splash of vanilla extract and some stevia. It's a puke green color but it's really tastes very, very good. It's SUPER thick. Next time I will probably do half of everything.

Hi from South Jersey, I just received my Nutribullet today and wanted to give it a whirl. I make my 1st green smoothie. OMG I was amazed how good it was and it was only 2 ingredients: Spinach and Strawberries (must of been thinking Christmas ) I added Water and 2 splenda to it and let it rip. I will admit it's not the prettiest drink I have ever had, but one of the tastiest by far, even my hubby enjoyed the taste. If anyone is willing to share their smoothie receipes I would love to give them a whirl. I am pre-op and my surgery is tentative for Feb 2014. I am looking foward to my new lifestyle (journey). I have been reading and researching as much as possible …

Hi all. My hubby came home one day last week with a pumpkin spice latte from McDonalds and was raving about it. It smelled really good but I don't like coffee so that got me thinking about trying to come up with a pumpkin Protein shake. I've been playing around with it for about a week and have finally found just the right pumpkin pie taste, and it's quite good if I do say so myself. I thought I'd share the recipe with my fellow sleevers. Add to blender: 1 cup (8oz) skim milk 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, I use unjury 3 tablespoons canned solid pack pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie mix) pumpkin pie spice to taste Blend well on high for a minute or two. I'm not having TOO bad a problem getting my protein in (I do shots when I'm struggling) but sometimes I really have to fight to get my calories in. I'm just about 3 months post-op and seem to go thru 3 and 4 day stretches when I just don't want to eat anything but obviously don't like feeling hungry. So any ideas for good juicing recipes? High protein would be great but just plain ol' healthy would be great, too! I really can't seem to get enough veggies. So let's hear your ideas!!! Thanks!

So, I went shopping last night, and went down the coffee isle, for the smell. When I hit the creamer I found some flavoring syrup, with nothing in it, no calories, no sugar, no nada. It was in hazelnut, caramel, french vanilla, and another flavor that I don't remember. I got the hazelnut and this morning made a Protein shake, with my Protein powder, it's vanilla whey isolate with 60g of protein for 2 scoops, A table spoon of SF chocolate syrup, and A splash of the hazelnut flavoring, and it was AMAZING! It was super tasty and didn't have the protein aftertaste.

Drop a raspberry in each slot of an ice tray. Fill with Water and freeze. Cut up a few thin slices of cucumber and put in a glass. Add a few sprigs of fresh mint. Add frozen raspberry cubes. Add water. These are very beautiful and refreshing. No need to eat the cucumber if you can't or don't want to. It feels indulgent and is virtually calorie free. I do eat the 3 or 4 berries:)

Last night I made these up. I had one for a snack earlier today, and it was delicious. This is a great way to get some Protein in, especially if you have a hard time tolerating shakes. I'm going to experiment a little with the recipe and change up the flavor of Protein powder and yogurt to see what other flavor combinations work well together. Dannon Light and Fit yogurt would knock about 8 calories off per pop, too. I was just out of that brand when I made these. I bought some New Orleans Style coffee concentrate from Whole Foods tonight. It's about 6 dollars for a liter of the stuff. It will make tons of coffee though. Then I whipped up a Protein shake with unjury Vanilla and Oh so good protein enhanced almond milk. 8 oz of Almond Milk 1 scoop of Unjury Mix it up and then add some ice. Put 4 oz of the coffee mix in there and shake it up. You will have an awesome iced coffee drink with less than 150 calories and 26 grams of protein. And almost no carbs!

Similar to the chicken soup, I found the tomato soup terrible. I have made it manageable with the following recipe. I suspect it would also be good to just make it up with V8 instead of Water. Here is what I did. Blend the following together in a food processor: 1 packet Optifast or optislim tomato soup 1/3 cup powdered milk 1 tsp beef stock powder Add the following and blend thoroughly: 1 c water 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar OR 1 tbsp white vinegar Pour this into a saucepan. Add some dried cilantro and parsley, and a dash of hot sauce if you like. Heat over low just until it is warm enough to eat. Do not boil! If you get it too hot the Protein will clump. Stra…

The first time I tried the chicken soup Meal Replacement I thought I was going to have to toss the box. It was so gross and gritty. But I have made it actually taste good so I thought I would share. In a food processor, blend: 1 packet of soup mix 1/3 cup skim milk powder 1/4 tsp beef stock powder 1 1/3 c cold Water Get them good and blended. Pour into a saucepan and set the heat to LOW. Add 1 tsp Worcester sauce, 1 tsp yellow mustard, and a bit of leek or spring onion leaf. Cook VERY SLOWLY until its warm enough to eat but nowhere near boiling. Strain and serve. If you need to reheat it just do it very gently to keep the Protein from clumping. I don't know…

I wanted a different taste to my protein drink and made a sort of Chai version by adding 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ground cloves and 1/8 tsp nutmeg to 16 oz (two servings) of vanilla EAS made with non fat milk. I didnt add black pepper as most normal chai recipes require just because I was a little scared that it would irritate my sleeve. The result was a palatable protein drink that had 21g protein in 8oz and tasted pretty damn good. Since i am a bit too weak to go out shopping yet only four days since surgery) I liked the fact I could use stuff i already had around the house so it was easy and cheap to make something that tasted good.
