Clear liquid and full liquid recipes for stage 1 after bariatric surgery.

  1. I am sipping on this as I write- it is AMAZING!! I got this off of another website but VST will not let me post the link. Next time I make it I think I will be adding a little instant coffee to it as well. Ingredients 1/2 c. Hood Calorie Countdown Skim Milk (this can be hard to find. Regular skim is fine) 8 oz. boiling Water 1 heaping tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder 1 scoop chocolate Protein powder 4 pumps sugar free carmel syrup 4-6 packets of no-calorie sweetener About 1/4 tsp of salt (Shari suggests a specific kind. I use regular table salt cuz I'm poor and it works! Usually I end up with a bit more than 1/4 tsp to get the desired effect. If you're unsure…

I find that I need to change what I'm drinking. I'll get sick of Crystal Light, SF Kool aid, whatever. It tastes good for a couple of days and then I need to switch to something else. But this has been my favorite for awhile now so thought I'd share. Brew some decaf herbal tea. My favorite is Lemon Zinger although I've used Red Zinger and I have peach in the cabinet that I haven't tried yet. Then sweeten it with no sugar added apple juice. My goal was not to go over 50% juice but I didn't need that much juice. Its very good! Enjoy.

My surgery is Tuesday 6/7/11 and I'm trying to prepare for 3 days post op when full liquids begin. Can I basically have anything in soup form as long as it's pureed and strained? Trying to think of healthy, protein rich ways to keep my tummy and mouth happy for 5 weeks while I'm on full liquids. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I bought this awesome juicer about a month ago, cause I was having trouble with fresh fruits and veggies going bad. I wanted the nutrition that they have to offer, but I could only eat 1 or 2 stalks of broccoli, OR 1/4 c of fruit. Not together, and not very much. My husband hates most veggies, so they just went bad. Yes, I know, frozen is just as if not more nutritious as fresh, but the point is....I wanted the nutrition of veggies. So my friend suggested a juicer. She has been using hers for years, and loves it. I went to Kohls and bought one on sale. I LOVE THE TASTE OF JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING I PUT IN IT !!! I also get the entire carrot, a full serving of broccoli, or …

  12. So, I am in love with this smoothie from the Ultrametabolism diet book. It is just almond milk, PB and a banana. In the book you're supposed to use a natural almond or walnut butter, but I used reduced fat cream PB. At this point, I could live on this smoothie and if I can add some unflavored protein to it post-op, even better. I was curious though.... once I'm finally post-op would the smoothie be considered a full liquid, or would the banana push it into the mushy category? Just looking for general info, thanks!

I have become accustom to the shakes accept for the foam aspect. I use milk and a small personal size blender to make mine (no nasty clumps) but a result is it foams up. This foam is just about impossible to handle for me. So I am wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks on how to make the shakes without or with as little foam as possible? *L*

I've never really liked Protein shakes and I had an even harder time getting them down after surgery. My doctor suggested drinking the sugar free version of Carnation instant Breakfast and adding two tablespoons of powdered milk. All that combined with the cup of milk you mix in, you get about 18 grams of protein. You can up the protein by adding Protein powder instead of the powdered milk and it still tastes better than a Protein shake (just my opinion). Just thought I'd share because it saved me.

I stumbled onto this one by accident. I've always had a weakness for chocolate milk. Not so much hot cocoa, just nice rich creamy chocolate milk. Hadn't had any in ages and ages, and figured I'd never get any again. Then I started drinking low-fat soy milk in my Protein shakes and discovered that the unflavored, unsweetened soy makes for a REALLY rich-tasting Protein Drink, along with the sugar-free syrups that you can put in coffee and so forth. And, I discovered this flavor called Chocolate Macadamia Nut (the brand is Pasano, and it's sold by some place on the west side of Washington state, I think). I am SO not kidding, this combination of soy milk and sugar-free syrup…

I am on day three of the liquid pre-op diet and one of my coworkers gave me a candy cane herbal tea bag from celestial seasonings. It was wonderful and made my stomach feel better. Just thought I would pass along this info on the off chance it will help someone else too. :001_smile:

  17. I am so over water right now and anything strawberry, chocolate or vanilla flavored! I go to Sonic during happy hour and ask for a small blue coconut slush LITE syrup! Best treat to myself! Then when I'm done drinking it, I eat the yummy ice!

I love chai. But the stuff I can get at the store is sky-high in sugar and fat, and of course going someplace like Starbucks is just as bad or worse. So, now I make my own. I have teabags of chai tea--zero calories. I have sugar-free flavorings (vanilla is what I put in my latest attempt--more zero calories). I use ground cinnamon and cloves just to add even more zip. I throw in Splenda to sweeten it as much or as little as I want. And for the creaminess, I use low-fat plain soy milk (50 calories for 8 ounces, 20 calories of which are fat). Also, this morning I iced it and threw in my morning Protein powder, then whizzed it up until it was frothy and foamy. Oh. My. Go…

My Mom made a big pot of soup for me for my full liquids phase. It is very good. 6 medium to large potatoes or 8 small 16 oz frozen broccoli 16 oz Velveeta cheese (light) Cook potatoes and broccoli. Do not drain Water Add cheese and allow it to melt. Add 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 can cream of celery soup 1 can cream of mushroom soup (You can get most of these 98% fat free) Puree in blender. This is a lot of soup, so we froze it in small containers.

Hey everyone - I'm trying to drink my protein drinks (I always blend lots of ice cubes in mine with sugar free syrup and frozen strawberries or blueberries) but sometimes I can't drink all of it right away. If I put it in a glass and put it in the refrigerator I don't like the consistency - I like the little ice cube pieces to remain. So last couple of days I make it and then put it in a steel thermos and I swear it will stay COLD all day long - I just keep sipping it and when it's gone I make another. I find I'm drinking more protein this way.

This is very easy and you can change some of the ingredients around according to taste, freezes well. Taco Soup 1lb ground beef or turkey, browned 2 cans hominy (or corn) 2 cans pinto Beans (or 1 pinto and 1 black beans) 1 can Rotel tomatoes (tomatoes and green chilies if you can't get Rotel brand) 1 pkg dry Ranch dressing mix 1 pkg taco seasoning Do not drain cans, Mix all together and cook 3-4 hrs, Serve with chips and grated cheese

  22. If you're like me and can't stand the Protein drinks you've been trying, give this a shot. I start with a readily available milk based protein drink: 8 ounces Bolthouse Farms Mocha Cappuccino 1/2 cup liquid egg whites 1 tsp. dry General Mills International Suisse Mocha (sugar free) 5 ice cubes Put everything in the blender and mix for no more than 30 seconds - to avoid foaming egg whites. Pour into insulated cup. 20+ grams of protein and I LOVE IT!

Hey all. So I've been moping around today, starving, not wanting to drink another ounce of the Pro-Stat 64 because it's SO darn sweet (smells like caramel, tastes not so much like caramel), and not wanting to even have another drop of a Protein bullet (again, the sweetness is brutal). Well, I had a moment of food-depression clarity: "Use this Pro-Stat as a SWEETENER in a hot tea, you can choke that down!" Now I must admit, I'm not one for sugar or sweetener in my teas, yea, I'm weird, but I figured I could get it down this way, and voila! 15 grams of protein in ONE ounce of Pro-Stat, added to an 8 oz cup of hot Jasmine Tea! YAHOO!!! This might just save me over the n…

okay, it's not a recipe but thought I'd share. I've been having trouble getting all my water in because I only like water really, really cold and now that it's cold outside and I've lost the weight I'm constantly freezing. Anyway, Celestial Seasonings has some holiday tea flavors out, one is Sugar Cookie and the other is Gingerbread Spice...they are caffeine free and taste wonderul. The Sugar Cookie is my favorite! The smell alone will give you a "fix".
