  4. So my surgeon has a zero percent leak rate which he is quite proud of, but his post-op diet specifications seem overly conservative compared with what everyone else seems to be on. In doing some research on other surgeons, it appears that most recommend moving to pureed foods as soon as day 8 and many by day 14. My surgeon's plan calls for 1 month after surgery. I am really struggling with this liquids only diet. There just isn't enough variety. So I'm thinking of moving on to the pureed stage at day 14. I know many people on here just advocate doing what your surgeon says, but how can both plans (day 30 pureed vs. day 14) be the correct way of doing things? Sure…

I'm going in 11 am on Wednesday! I'm so excited but so nervous! Im 5'6" and started at 315 pounds! I've lost 20 pounds on the pre-op diet ( 3 protein shakes and 1 -3oz lean protein with veg), and I still have 3 days to go! I have to say the hardest part so far is the first 3 days! I was miserable and STARVING! I felt so depressed...like I was "breaking up" with food! I missed everything! What concerns me now is after the surgery. I read so many horror stories...it scares me :/

  6. Just curious. I'm on a full liquid diet (to include cream Soups, yogurt, puddings, Jello, and runny cream of what) for the first 4 weeks (I'm only 6 days post op). I'm scared of eating anything, however. Haven't even had jello cuz I'm afraid I'm gunna burst my staples or something. I know I hafta get over that eventually (or continue to drink my meals). Is chili in the blender ok? Or would that be mushy phase?

  7. I have been doing random research online to understand better how our body processes foods and about the various hormones in the body that contribute to weight loss. I thought these 3 sites were interesting and thought I would pass them along: http://health.usnews.com/health-news/diet-fitness/diet/slideshows/use-these-8-foods-to-help-you-lose-weight/4 http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/15-foods-to-help-you-lose?page=3 http://www.self.com/fooddiet/2010/03/20-superfoods-slideshow#slide=13 Some have easy to incorporate ideas and suggestions.

  8. Started by Roserie,

What did everyone's full liquid diet look like after surgery? I don't see my surgeon until the 8th so I'm following the diet according to my program. Saturday I can start full liquids. My main ideas were protein shakes, sf pudding, Greek yogurt, thinned oatmeal and cream of wheat (the last 2 were listed in my book on the full liquid sample menu but I've heard some people say this may be too hard to digest this early out). Is there anything else I could add in? It's only for a week and then I start a 2wk pureed diet. I can't wait for these foods, I'm feeling exhausted and weak on the clear liquids.

  9. Started by kim070682,

I am still on my pre op 2 week liquid diet and have 10 days to go. However I like to plan ahead and I want to have everything ready for when I return home. I have 2 days of clear liquid (day of surgery and day after) then days 3-15 are "full liquid". Any suggestions for full liquid. These shakes aren't wonderful but it's definitely mind over matter Thanks for the help!!! Time is ticking slow in Texas...

I am on day 1 of my preop diet. Get my sleeve on the 24th. I have a question about drinking coffee. I usually drink 2 large coffee a morning and I'm curious if I need to stop this while on my preop diet? I realize postop I will not be able to consume that much but do I need to stop drinking it today?

What happens if you drink too soon after a meal with the sleeve? I currently have a lap band in, and have taken a sip too soon after eating which resulted in vomiting. Just wondering if this happens with the sleeve.

I'm still not clear on how much Protein, carbs, and calories should we be having each day. I am 4 weeks post op. I average 40 g protein, 500 cals, and 30 g carbs daily. I've looked through my literature from the surgeon and nutritionist several times and can't seem to find any guidelines. Anybody know? Thanks!

  16. From what I've found on the internet, it seems the key is low-carb (under 30-50g per day maximum) to reduce the glycogen stores in the liver. Sounds like they require high Protein (70 - 120g per day) to maintain muscle mass and lose fat (especially in the stomach area). They suggest low-fat so that you stay within the calorie restriction (800-1200 per day maximum) and lose fat. What I don't understand is why many surgeons require the bulk (or all) of the diet be in Protein shakes. Has anyone been given a reason for this? Is it because there are often added supplements in the shakes? Maybe to get us used to eating mostly liquids in prep for the post-surgery di…

I can not kick the habit of drinking from a straw. I went through a drive-through today to get something to drink. Two hours later, it hit me that I had popped that straw right in the cup and drank away. This is the 2nd time I have done this. Several other times, I have put the straw in the cup but remembered I am not suppose to use them before I put my mouth on it. Did anyone else have difficulty kicking the straw habit?

Tomorrow will be week 4. I am not able to eat much. Nothing tastes good or works for me. On soft foods but eating mostly ice cubes. Also not drinking the protein shakes. I can't take them either. I am so frustrated with all of this and sick of the dizziness. I see the np on Thursday. Anyone else have this problem?

  22. Started by sparker,

Since the 17th of July I've had clearance to begin alternating real foods with soft foods. I am a bit uneasy about this move. So far there have been no problems with anything I've tried. This includes canned chicken ham and shrimp. But now that I can actually sit down with a piece of real food I'm a little afraid to try. Right now in my crock pot is a turkey roast that is falling apart and some baby carrots cooked to very soft state. I'm starving and just too chicken to give it a try. My surgery was June 18th. Is there any reason to expect problems now since I have not had any so far? Reassurance please. Not asking for promises cause I know that isn't possible, but if you…

It been so long with NUT on how to get in 78 gm if protein a day and I was wonder how do you do your meals on getting the protein. My sleeve date is the 19 of June . I remember Dr. Cooper ( my surgeon ) saying 3 meals a day. On here I been hearing protein drinks count as a meal, then it would be hard staying at 4oz a meal (2oz protein ) I can't find my paper where we went over it on the protein part. Any help please for this lame brain....

My first official purée dinner a little less than three weeks out from surgery. I cooked WW recipe sesame chicken for my husband and brother in law and puréed 2oz in a stick blender attachment for me. I took my time, dime size bites with an espresso spoon, tasted each bite and listened to Scarlett O' Sleevie. I kept expecting to throw up or at least feel a bit odd, but success! I felt totally normal and ended up eating 1 oz of it. My dog Remi got to enjoy the rest. I didn't want to try two oz because it could have been an entirely different story... playing it safe is the best way to go, especially with chicken. I can't wait to try breakfast- cottage cheese with 1 …

OMG!!! I am eating mashed potatoes and I think it is the best thing on this planet right now after nine days of liquids. Going to try chili later today after putting it through the Nutra Bullet. How are all you doing out there today??

  31. Started by vegasneon,

My surgeons instructions kind of stop at 6 weeks and up to 6 weeks it said avoid nuts. So presumably after 6 weeks I can eat nuts. Does that sound about right? I know people eat nut butters earlier- would there be a reason to put off nuts longer than 6 weeks? I could see seeds getting stuck in your incision but nuts? Well chewed of course.

I haven't had my surgery yet but I read over and over in posts that people don't like foods they once liked before having surgery. Is there some scientific reason for this or what? It's really a strange phenomena. Not just things that are no longer good for you like sweets but all kinds of foods.

When I was preop, I made chicken soup. I strained the chicken, onion, carrots and celery out so I could have the broth for preop and postop. I puréed the chicken and veggies together for the purée stage, which I'm clear to start on Monday. At the first bite class I attended, the NUT said to stay away from celery because it's hard to digest. Do you think it would be ok to have the purée I made since the celery was first boiled in the soup and then puréed with the chicken, carrots and onion?

  36. Started by jograves,

Hi there, I was sleeved May 21st, 2013. I am struggling with my Dr's written directive to 'stop eating at the first hint of fullness.' Because when I do that, there is no way I can get down what is considered a typical 'meal' amount of food. So instead I stop eating after a few bites, then eat again about an hour and a half later, and stop again when I feel the 'hint.' That means I am grazing all day which I'm told not to do. Confusing. Based on my Dr's recommendation for the size of 1 meal (example: dinner 3-4 oz broiled halibut, steamed broccoli, sliced tomatoes and a few whole grain crackers,) I could never get all that down in 1 sitting without going way past …

I know juice cleanses should be cleared with a doc or nut but I was wondering if anyone has done one before. I like the idea of cleansing my body from toxins and rebooting my system and figured with the smaller stomach capacity, it should be more manageable to only have liquids again. I'm 3 weeks Post-op and just started on full liquids, soup, yogurt and farina. I've had the same 4 oz of yogurt sitting on my desk since 9:30 and it's 11:15 now and I still have a quarter of it left. It's not like I'm not craving food, I had a dream of dipping french fries into over easy eggs 2'x since surgery. However, when it comes to eating my limited choices, I have no desire, I'd rather drink Isopure and water all day and I'm so tired from only eating 600 calories a day. Anyone else feeling the same way?

  48. My surgeon's LRD consists of eating meats and veggies (certain varieties stipulated), certain condiments, and up to 2 dairy servings/day. Day 1 of my LRD was yesterday. I am following my LRD diet to a "T", but my sodium is through the roof (3,263 g today, 2,906 yesterday) and I'm not using alot of processed foods or dressings (for example: Dinner today consisted of lettuce, tomatos, a bit of salsa, ground turkey and a bit of cheese resulting in 1,158 g of sodium). This diet is to help my liver but this much sodium could damage my kidneys! What am I doing wrong???

I would love advice from more experienced sleevers on how to increase calorie intake at this stage!
