I started the purée diet this week. I'm finding it hard to fit all my liquids in once I added real food. I'm full for like 3 hours and can't even begin to think about putting anything else in my stomach. I'm eating about 2-3oz per meal and have been eating 1-2 times per day. Maybe I just need to plan each meal better and or take eat less per meal so that I can get enough liquids. I just hoped to start getting my protein from food sources and rely less on the shakes. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'm just proud to announce I haven't had coffee or Diet Coke since I started my pre-op diet, and I don't really crave them. I never would've thought I could just quit both of them cold turkey!

Sooooo...I have been putting cream of chicken and cream of mushroom in the blender and eating them everyday during my Full Liquid Stage. I was told that I could have anything that fits through a straw (but don't use a straw). I was just reading about people straining soup but not blending it. Did I mistakenly miss a stage ???

...to still be having rather solid bm's even though today starts Day 5 of my pre opt liquid diet? I promise I won't keep askng but it's really weird to me that I have had nothing but liquid (only protein shakes, clear broth, water w/lemon and cucumber) for FIVE DAYS STRAIGHT and even though I'm only going once a day instead of 3 to 4 times like i did on solid food, I'm not having a liquid stool. how is this possible? Am i normal? Is the fact i'm having a solid stool an indicator that i still have a lot of food stored in my intestine or something? I havent cheated and had anyrhing other than the broth, water, and protein shakes (except i do take 2 women's one a day and i t…

My surgery date came and went (12/4) because of gallstones in my ducts. I have to repeat the gallstone removal procedure (ERCP) again in mid-January. I am in limbo -- no surgery date, husband is not as supportive to pursue surgery sooner rather than later, and I'm to continue the Very Low Cal Diet (700 cals/day) that I've been on since the beginning of November (4 weeks pre-op). I am hungry. I am sad and horribly disappointed at the turn of events. Encouragement, please. Pretty please?

I use my fitness pal but I am having a problem I cannot exactly measure what I have eaten. Sometimes it might only be a a teaspoon or a nibble of something and I know it all counts. Sometimes I put half a cup in my bowl but I can't eat it all. Sometimes I eat half or less and it just really compute well on my tracking. I will be honest I think the tracking is making me more crazy than tryiing to follow the diet.

So I'm in the 2 week pre op diet. One of the things I can have is a serving of broth a day. I can't stomach the plain broth I bought in the carton. Since it's too late to call the nutritionist I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on a vegetable soup and straining out the veggies.. It's a lot tastier.. Much more sodium.. Would that qualify as broth??

Question my pre op people. My diet does not say anything about pudding but I'm curious if I can have it. I could have sugar free jello as well as sugar free Popsicles. Have any of you had sugar free pudding during the pre op diet?? Thanks everyone.

After my Psych Eval, the Dr. got me thinking about things that hadn't crossed my mind before. So I'm curious if anyone has an answer or two from your experience post-op. Has the Flavor of food improved or gotten worse. For example, Does Jello taste the same post op or no. Do the foods that you once enjoyed pre-op hold no flavor to you now post op or taste nasty. I know its an odd question to be asking, but I like to think this may be a question that other people haven't thought of and are wondering too.

I'm pre-op and trying to get my weight down before the main event. The shakes are not even in the equation at this point because I REFUSE to choke down another until I absolutely have to, so I'm still getting all of my nutrition from food. When I was yo-yo dieting like damned fool, I did atkins for a little while and felt like death. But I took someone on here's advice and did the 50/30/20 rule with my food and kept to the calorie count my nutritionist recommended. It had been hit or miss because I suck at Breakfast and I have to use the office kitchen to make lunch, but these have been a lifesaver. I had the steak scramble this morning that was delicious and so f…

Why do virtually all the bariatric surgeons have people do 600-800 calories a day while they reduce? If I have a low (33 pre-surgery) BMI and have lost 33% of my excess weight 4 weeks post surgery, then wouldn't I be likely to reduce more healthfully and preserve more muscle to have 800-1000 cals/day ? I know that surgeons want us to lose as much as possible in the first 6 months and I understand why calories need to be so low for many, but since I only have 45 to goal 4 weeks out, I'm thinking perhaps I shouldn't go so close to starvation levels (?). If I have 5 more months of the sleeve's significant weight loss window to get rid of 45 lbs, i am inclined to go a little …

Has anyone tried Cabot Sharp Extra light cheddar cheese? It's 60 calories and 9 grams of protein per oz? I think it tastes pretty good, too. I have also started using Special K20 protein water. It has 30 calories, 5g Protein and 5g Fiber per serving. Both are kind of pricey, but I'm trying to find any way I can to eliminate the 2nd protein shake. Thoughts?

So last night on my way home from work I was HUNGRY. I mean. HONGRAY. And It was Stephen King level foggy. And I was grumpy because my boss cheesed me off. And I wanted a pizza more than anything ever. I could taste it. It was beckoning to me. BUT. I didn't. I reasoned, if I had pizza, I could not have an ice cream (skinny cow) after dinner. And as always, Ice Cream wins.

I am 16 days post op and im struggling. I was cruising along with clear and full liquids and then just before puree, i hit a wall. I went back to clears and now am progressing back to fulls. Somedays its so easy to get in fluids, but this morning i woke up and am really struggling to get in an 8 oz protein shake. I really just dont get it. I have had thrush which i know can cause esophagus swelling and pain. I also have had some bad heartburn but somedays its so easy. Tues and wed i got down 60 oz all day and yesterday and applesauce. Today i feel like crap and can barely get this protein shake in. What gives!?? Im scared ill never progress to real food. Any insights woul…

Has anyone else experienced dizziness and blurred vision and feelings of faint? I was in the shower this morning and had enough time to grab a towel and make it to the bed. It subsided after about 10 minutes... I am drinking about 2 liters of Fluid a day and getting in 60g of protien and am on a chewable Multivitamin once a day and Calcium chews... I have emailed my doctor in Mexico. Has anyone else experienced this? I am on day 13 post op and down 15 pounds...just too much too soon?

This Thursday I get to start full liquids and plan to feast like a queen. Ok not really but I am honestly really excited to eat cream of wheat. Partly for nostalgia reasons as it was a big part of my childhood. My question is, can I add a dash of sweetener or cinnamon to add taste? And I'd appreciate any tips or tricks to get me through phase two! Thanks

I'm on a fixed income and due to my job closing a few years ago I had to apply for stamps. I was wonder if any drinks could be bought with my EBT card. This is what I found out. Check out the product label on the back of Protein powders to determine if they can be purchased with EBT. If the label head reads “supplement facts,” it is considered a supplement and can not be purchased using EBT. If the label head reads “nutritional facts,” then the Protein powder is classified as a food, and EBT benefits can be used to purchase the product. That explained a lot because I had picked up some Power Core Light from Walmart thinking I was going to pay with cash and I didn't …

Ok, guys...this could be an insane question, but my doc didn't specify. I am on Clear liquids for 10 days...when exactly does that start? Does my first day of my post op diet begin the day after my surgery? With my first "meal" in the hospital? My first meal outside of the hospital? I am obviously looking forward having some puree foods and milk and cream of __________ stuff and so I want to make sure that I am doing it right. I had my surgery on November 20th. So please someone let me know when my ten days started! Thank you guys sooo much!!!

My friend who had her surgery three weeks before me and I were talking today about the difference in how far we've progressed. I am 10 days out, was never on a liquid diet or Protein shakes, ate pureed food while in the hospital and will be moving to soft food this coming week. She had her surgery three weeks before me, was on liquid and Protein Shakes for weeks before and after, and is just now starting to eat similarly to me...and she's scared to eat sometimes. I'm no rocket scientist, but I think that my surgeon has the correct plan going on. I have more energy than my friend, I'm losing 1 to 2 pounds a day, and I'm not scared to eat. That being said, I'm "only"…

I am on full liquids. I can't stand the thought if another protein shake but I found Isopure iced orange and it is a life saver. However for the last couple of days I felt like I was starving. I don't go back to the doctor till December 3rd when I hope I move to purée. Tonight I broke down and ate a tablespoon of small curd cottage cheese. It was amazing and so filling. I feel better tonight than I have in days.

I am KIDDING. (Sort of.) Was released to purees yesterday and here's what I will say. After 4 weeks of liquids, my first bite of roasted chicken and mashed potato paste was manna from heaven. I can't believe I just typed that. So I am traveling next week for the holidays and a family wedding. Looking for ideas of how to be as seamless as possible in this transition. Here are the things I tried a couple of bites of and did fine with: scrambled eggs and refried Beans. Obviously mashed potatoes. So worst case scenario I will be able to find these things when we stop for the day, if nowhere else. But... Who's got tips for successful eating on road trips in this phase? …

Tonight is my last night of "real food" for quite some time. I chose to go gourmet and had tuna salad. Tomorrow starts my pre-diet of high Protein, low carb which basically translates into 4 ounces of fish, turkey or chicken for dinner, two eggs and two pieces of turkey bacon for Breakfast, and tuna, chicken or turkey salad for lunch. Two Snacks of 1 cup of milk with added powdered milk for more protein. I have it easy compared to many WLS patients. Most I know have to do weeks of Protein drinks and liquid diet pre and post. I like my surgeon's way better!

Ok...so, I have no idea what tastes good anymore....but I stirred together Underwood chicken spread and smooth store bought Guacamole and it is really good and goes down easy. The guacamole is carb but it should be a healthy carb because it is a healthy fat and the underwood chicken spread is basically all Protein. 2 tablespoons of the guacamole is 4 carbs and 1 gm fat. The chicken spread is 1 carb; 6 fat and 4 protein. Just a thought....

I've been so bad. I had surgery February 26, 2013 and I've lost 95 pounds. However, I've eaten so bad the entire time since I had surgery. I can't eat much, obviously, but I eat awful! pizza, cupcakes, etc. I don't drink water; I drink diet soda. My weight loss is starting to slow down so I think that I need to start eating better and the weight will come off faster. The first thing I'm going to do is start drinking Water. I'm not saying that I'm going to give up pop all together BUT I will try to get my 60 oz of water in per day. What else can I do? I work a lot. I'm a nurse and I have a full time job and 3 PRN (part time) jobs. So I need things that are easy to take …

so my surgery is monday and I have a question about strained cream Soup. my pre op liquid diet called for camp bells 98% fat free cream soup. These Soups are good to cook with but just to eat them is really gross. My week of full liquids after surgery calls from strained creamed soups. ugh gross. all the low fat cream of whatevers are not good. I have discovered the Progresso light cream of bacon and potato which is awesome. There are also a couple of other ones made by progresso that are creamy that are pretty tasty. So do you think if I strain all the big chunks out of the progresso soups that will be ok?
