  1. Started by nomorecupcakes,

I used to eat this way before and I felt great and ill be going back add soon as I'm back to solids. I'm hoping my stomach will be able to tolerate that type of lifestyle!

UGH. I have to go to a benefit "ladies' lunch" today. I'm 2 weeks out, so there will be nothing I can eat. Any good ideas for how to make it less obvious that I'm pushing food around on my plate? Should I just fake a seizure or something? This is my second benefit since surgery. Went to one last week but because I was running it was able to bring my own Soup which they served with the meal.

  5. I was never told how much broth I am allowed to consume in one sitting.. right now I am 8 days post op and I'm consuming about about 1 cup of broth 2 or 2 times a day. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  6. Started by Noirsunflower,

Is anyone else on a total protein, no carb diet post-op? I am only allowed meat, cheese, beans, seafood and Greek yogurt. I am 7 weeks out. Don't really mind the diet but I am sooooo tired and cranky...

  7. Started by ScottsGirl,

From the beginning of my WLS journey, which hasn't been all that long, I've often wondered what the big deal about eating sugar/sweets was after the surgery. From the puree stage on, I have put brown sugar in my Malto Meal and oatmeal, and have eaten foods like ice cream, candy, cake etc.. Mind you, I eat these things in moderation (a bite or two) although I have days when I eat several small pieces of candy - Halloween! and I have still managed to lose weight. I know that it helps that I power-walk everyday, but even if I don't, why is it that sugar is considered the enemy. I see people talking about only using artificial sweeteners and I often wonder if they know th…

I'm in my fourth week post-op and craving steamed spinach. I use spinach in the bag and just steam it in the microwave. Anyone know if the sleeve can tolerate that this early on? I know spinach in its raw state is quite fibrous.

  10. Started by paigetim57,

Hello, I had my sleeve done on the 16th of October, and I have been on liquid diet since. On Wednesday it will be three weeks out and the next phase is a full liquid diet which adds strained soups, cream of wheat, vegetable juice, and yougurt. The pureed/soft food stage phase doesnt statt until week 9, and then regular food will be introduced at week 13. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar post op diet. I am discouraged right now because I'm not tolerating the protein shakes at all so I'm not able to get in the proper amount of protein and I feel like I'm starving.

  11. How do you guys think I'm doing? I'm no longer using MFP (as of 10/27) to track my exercise/offset my calories. Thanks for the feedback on this in another thread I began! I'm getting in 50-60 oz of liquid per day, and only using one Protein Drink (10-17 oz) per day. I'm taking all of my meds/vitamins. At my 2 week postop with my surgeon yesterday, I'd lost 12 lbs. Total pre/post op = 46 lbs lost in 6 months. I'm walking about two miles per day, and doing vigorous chores like raking leaves. I walked up six flights of steps TWICE yesterday, and jogged for two blocks today! Don't go back to work until Nov 4. I sure would appreciate your feedback/expertise!!!! Total C…

  13. Today was my first pos-top appt. Tomorrow will make 2 weeks since surgery and nutritionist & doc released me to soft solids. Woohoo! My tastes and cravings, as predicted, have changed quite a bit. I couldn't wait to get a hold of some chicken breast. Hubby took me out to Olive Garden and they have some new "small plates" offerings on their menus now. One was a single chicken skewer with choice of a drizzle of Alfredo or red wine sauce. It was maybe 3 oz of chicken but it was perfect! Afterwards we went to the grocery store and I stocked up on Cajun fish fillets (Gortons frozen), precooked chicken breast strips, Steamables frozen veggies, a variety of Indian, Th…

  18. I was told by my surgeon i did not have to lose any weight before surgery, but I thought I lose a little before surgery though. I have a seizure disorder which is why I chose vertical sleeve vs rou-y-en surgery. So for two weeks now, I have been eating lots more proteins (mostly all proteins). I only eat one piece of bread for breakfast with light butter. I have cut all sweets and chocolate except for 4 tootsie rolls a day and sometimes I dont even eat those. Yesterday, I got really dizzy and nauseated after breakfast so I went to bed at 10am and did not get up till 6pm. I still felt crudy. I thought it was because I did not eat much for breakfast- a Smart Ones oatmeat an…

What are some ideas of Protein Snacks you guys have? I hate the idea of having a snack that doesn't have protein in it (being that I'm trying so hard to get enough during the day). But I seem to not know a variety of snacks I can have, unless there really isn't a variety including protein. I know about the cheese, string cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, Peanut Butter... but what else can I have as a snack that has protein? Any ideas? What about you guys?

So I'm 5 weeks out and I feel that my calories are on the high side. What is everyone else at? I've lost 36 lbs so far and I'm at 600-800 calories per day. I eat 2oz. of food every two hours. I guess I just want to know if I'm on tract.

  22. Started by MindiJean,

One week and one day after I am sleeved will be Thanksgiving. I will be on a pureed diet on that day. It's just my husband and I at home and I don't want him to suffer just because I have to eat pureed foods. What should we make, or buy beforehand, to make our lives easier? I was thinking one of those pre-made Thanksgiving dinners from the grocery store, but even that seems too large and too much work to reheat and carve, etc.

I am a newbie to the group. I've been reading lot of your posts and think this is such a Great place! Anyway, my insurance requires you lose 10% of your body weight before surgery. I was 295 at my heaviest and I am 280 now. I have to be 265 for surgery. It has taking months to lose 15 : ( I picked up a protein shake today. I am going to do two shakes a day and a small meal. I know many of u have been in my shoes..... Any advice on how I can lose the 15 lbs the fastest???

  34. Started by Andrew0929,

I'm pre-op but submitted to insurance one week ago and trying to prepare for surgery and beyond. I was thinking that a vitamix might be helpful during my mushy food stage as our blender is bad. Not sure if that is overkill given the tiny amounts of food ill be consuming. What do you think?

  35. So, I'm the crazy person who willingly and happily scheduled her surgery for November 21--right before Thanksgiving! My retired parents were already planning to come down to spend Thanksgiving through Christmas with us (it's a good relationship, no worries). I'll be exactly 1 week post-op on Thanksgiving, and if my post-op goes well, I should be able to have my first "solid" food on Christmas Day (though I'm not bummed if I don't make that date. More interested in healing well). My family is EXTREMELY food-centric and we definitely have food issues. Just wondering how you have handled/are planning to handle the holidays. Also, does your family feel uncomfortable eatin…

Tonight i was feeling emotional about a few things and my stress was greatly exacerbated by the fact that the restuarant where my son works has lobster as the the special tonight, but i had already eaten by the time i found out (and was feeling sick from a mere 2.5 oz of chicken- still learning my limits)-- i was talking to my husband and just started laughing.... I have always loved surf and turf which always meant prime rib (perhaps the king cut) and lobster.... Now it has become part of a petite filet and one shrimp if im lucky....... Lol!!!!! Delirious from not having access to my typical drug of choice-food;)

  37. Hi all, I am hoping to gain a little bit of insight to what others are doing post op around the 5 month marker as far as calories and Protein levels? I had surgery May 21st 2013 - SW 225 CW 161 ( was 159 for a day? ) and GW 135-140. I have been losing slowly the last month and then this last couple of weeks bouncing between 159 and 161. I have never gained a pound in this journey so far so i am really freaked out i am doing something wrong??!! Or maybe i am getting closer to goal and this is how it plays out?? maybe i just need to do something a little different to move things along? Hoping for some advice for those of you that are here now or have been here alrea…

I had my one month appointment yesterday and my surgeon said I can move forward with my eating. I told him that I was kind of scared to eat regular foods and was worried about hurting myself. He said there is nothing that can happen at this time forward. I haven't thrown anything up and he told to eat whatever I wanted in moderation. Still going to stay away from sweets and breads for a bit. Not sure what to eat in reality. Kind of getting use to the healthy foods. He was concerned about my calorie intake... I have been averaging 400-500 calories a day. I need 1200-1500. Could be why he wants me eating more. I also got the ok to start running and lifting weights again.

Can I consider a Crystal Light drink as part of my water intake? It has been so hard for me to get enough water in, but if it's ok to consider Crystal Light as part of my water intake, it sure would make things easier. Any of you know?

I asked my doctor if I can eat the chicken in chicken noodle Soup and he said it was fine as long as chopped moist and chew it really small like the chicken in the soup. Yayyyyy

But then I found that the Cornell Weight Loss Surgery Diet is very similar. http://www.cornellwe...gastrectomy.pdf No pure liquid stages. No three weeks of only clears. This spring this fat girl planted about 300 sq ft of veggie gardens. While most of it fed the neighborhood deer, I was able to harvest a lot of bell and hot peppers. Since it's time to breakdown the beds for winter I harvested the last of the peppers; 8 pounds worth. I spent the day roasting and canning them. I can't wait to use them in different recipes post op. I also already have a full bed of kale growing, with garlic and onions planted. Can't wait to use these things for a healthier lifestyle, not to mention having the added benefit of being active in my gardens. Thanks of letting me share.

  48. Not really... I tolerated them. All three bites I was able to take. However I'm starting to realize that it wasn't so much that I wanted the eggs, just the flavor and the salt...am I weird?

So while at the grocery store over the weekend I found and purchased a new product. It is Luzianne "pour-n-stir". It looks like a little foil bottle, and has about 2oz of liquid inside of it. The trial size was only $1.00 and it says just to mix it with a gallon of cold Water. It has zero calories, and also comes in unsweet. I made it tonight, since we ran out of tea half way through dinner. It was super good. No weird after taste at all. Only odd thing was when I squeezed the contents into my gallon bottle, I found that it had a few tea leaves in it, but after giving it a good shake, it was fine. I will be buying it again. It is sweetened with Sucralose and acesulfame po…

I know it's common to have aversions, post-sleeve, to foods you previously enjoyed. And, I know that milk is a common one. But, I LOVED MILK, loved it, and now I can't tolerate it and I'm sad. Yogurt too and Protein drinks - all staples pre-surgery. (but, I can eat cheese?). It's hard to get all the protein in with out my babies. So, my question, will I ever be able to love again? Will my organic 2% ever be part of my life again, not to mention Greek yogurt? Please say yes people.
