Cheeseburger In A Blender, Travel Tips And Encouragement

Recommended Posts

I am KIDDING. (Sort of.)

Was released to purees yesterday and here's what I will say. After 4 weeks of liquids, my first bite of roasted chicken and mashed potato paste was manna from heaven. I can't believe I just typed that.

So I am traveling next week for the holidays and a family wedding. Looking for ideas of how to be as seamless as possible in this transition. Here are the things I tried a couple of bites of and did fine with: scrambled eggs and refried Beans. Obviously mashed potatoes. So worst case scenario I will be able to find these things when we stop for the day, if nowhere else. But...

Who's got tips for successful eating on road trips in this phase?

If you're on liquids and reading this, here is my newfound observation regarding the liquid phase…it actually goes more quickly than you think. I was right in there slogging away with the misery of Clear Liquids, but full liquids was more interesting and that two weeks went a lot faster for me. I feel like I'm in the home stretch now as far as getting back to eating like the rest of the world, if much smaller portions.

Yogurt, hummas, and avocadoes were all early good go-tos for me.

Because I am on the road so much, Panera was a GODSEND. I asked for more broth than Soup, and they were happy to comply. Many restaurants will even run Soup through a blender for you if you ask.

I ate a LOT of hummus (single serve cups!) and guacamole. (Waiters kept asking me if I wanted chips with my guac. Yes, I *wanted them*, but crapdammit, NO, FOOKING THANK YOU.

Keep your eye on the apps and the sides menu. You will be able to eat so little that a cup of soup is two or six meals and you will learn to love flavors you never expected to like.

:D

Thanks. And here's another question: are scrambled eggs sliders?

I am having no trouble with them, but it feels like a food I could eat a lot of. One egg doesn't feel like enough. Two is probably too much. But I was hoping that because it's real food, it would fill me up better than a Protein shake or Soup.< /p>

Just feeling my way through.

Of course. I am so used to one thing at a time, that I didn't even think of combining that way.

I feel ya'! It is still so bizarre to have more than one thing on my plate. I know I can hold 5-6 bites max, so it seem ridiculous to have three things all at the same time. If you like it, get some really finely chopped salsa to spoon on top of the whole mess. It's ridiculous how yummy it is to me post-op.

I'm so glad to read this thread as I (hopefully) will be cleared for pureed food on Monday. I'm going to a hotel for Thanksgiving weekend and trying to wrap my mind around how to make it work. Thanks for the ideas!

My doctor allowed scrambled egg right away (along with no sugar added applesauce, sugar free Jello and pudding). He OK'd introducing very small quantities (only 2 T of one of the choices daily) immediately after surgery - like the day after.

Scrambled egg is awesome - I even added a little shredded cheese yesterday (I'm one week post-op). It was great and I have had no issues - it fills me up.

I've also read a lot about refried Beans with some shredded low-fat cheese - I'm actually looking forward to that.

Your comment about pureed cheeseburger made me laugh. I had a friend in high school that was on a liquid diet because her jaw was broken. She DID puree a McDonalds cheeseburger and actually ate quite a bit of it!!!!! It can be done - I'm a witness.

Best of luck to you!

Wow, McButter…I'm 4 weeks out and eggs are just okay now.

I did experiment with a half cup of blended stroganoff. That was plenty though I had my worries. I have had no problems with any foods I've tried, starting with the cream Soups.

It is soooo hard to figure out servings. Half cup seems just about right, but I worry because I don't feel any issues eating too quickly (I've caught myself doing that.) I guess I just don't feel confident yet. Maybe one of these days...

Hey, Fluff.

You're further along than I am, but I have that same fear about eating too much too quickly, when I'm eventually allowed (I hope puree stage is OK'd on Wednesday).

Right now, I can feel that sensation that says, "Whoa, what the hell are you doing?" if I drink too quickly. It's like someone is squeezing my tummy.

I think I felt full after my 2 tablespoons of egg last night - I looked at the next bite and just said, "that isn't happening", but I can't say that it was a feeling of full coming from my stomach.

Enjoy your trip and have a great Thanksgiving!

Liquid phase? Gotta go through a straw (but don't use a straw!)

So Soups, either strained or blended...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
