While we all know fast food isn't the preferred way to eat healthy, sometimes things happen and hey, ya gotta eat. I've been really good about meal planning at home ahead of time and eating things from home at work or otherwise away from home. So far I've discovered Wendy's is a pretty safe stop for me. I tolerate their chili quite well (about 1/3-1/2 cup as a serving) and also their value menu Grilled chicken Wrap (i open it up and eat the insides only). If you consider Chipotle fast food, I'm able to eat their sofritas, black Beans, sour cream or cheese, tomato salsa, corn, and guac. I can only eat about 1/4 of a bowl at a time, so it's not my top choice for havi…

I'm almost 2 months out. I'm just curious how much people are eating at a meal. The food plan they had me on said around 1/2c, but I know the next plan i will move to said eat up to 1 cup. I've been finding I am eating around 1/2 to 3/4 cups, but it seems to depend on what the food is (I seem to eat more fish than chicken or beans). I know the next plan says 1 cup, that just seems a little high and I'm scared of stretching my pouch. How much is everyone eating? Do you find it is dependent on what type of food?

So this is a rather random and specific question - do I have to wait half an hour after drinking Water before I can have yogurt? I've been getting up pretty early to walk every morning because it gets hot so quickly. I take my mountain of Vitamins with 16 ounces of water, wait half an hour and then go walk. I've realized though that I need to eat something with Protein and carbs before walking. However, if I do anything remotely resembling exercise less than an hour after eating, I get terrible cramps in my side. So, ideally, I would like to be able to eat some yogurt with my 16 ounces of water and vitamins. Is that ok? I'm very good about observing the waiting period bet…

I wake up every morning and drink a bottle of water. After the water We have to wait 30 minutes before we can eat. I got called out early for work this morning. I don't have time to wait 30 minutes. The question is, do I wait 30 minutes which means I do without or do I eat despite having just finished a bottle of water?

I went to buy my grandson a sippy cup and ended up buying a set of 2 oz containers designed to make your own baby food and sto inthe freezer. i thought these would be great for post op. I also bought a set of Fresh Starts 1 cup chilled containers with removeable ice packs. They have a 1/4 cup line, a 1/2 cup line, and a 1 cup line in them and they also have reusable removable ice packs that fit in the lids. They are perfect. http://shop.fit-fresh.com/Fresh-Starts-Smart-Portions-Container/dp/B007P0YJVE

Just a fair warning, I love cherries, specially the dark sweet type, and have been consuming them in their canned form since I was a kid, even after the surgery once they were allowed, these are OK if canned apparently... Just avoid the frozen/fresh ones, they cause painful, and I do mean PAINFUL bloating, I learned this the hard way... apparently cherries of all kinds contain a carbohydrate that's difficult to digest and may cause you to feel gassy and bloated, specially if fresh/frozen, now take our tiny stomachs and the pain goes tenfold, I was writhing in pain for 1-2 hours after eating a measly 1/2 cup.

I've been having a hell of a time getting all my water in! I'm pretty sure I haven't even been getting half of what I'm supposed to get. My surgeon recommends 2 litres. So I saw something on facebook that I thought would help me. See the picture below! Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

So I started using myFItnessPal when I got home from the hospital 3 weeks ago (had surgery 5/26) and I'm a bit of a perfectionist...I'm having trouble with measuring and estimating the calories in my food. Sometimes I do well with measuring, especially when it's only a few ingredients (like the refried Beans, salsa, cilantro combo I do for pureed), but I'm normally the type of cook who doesn't follow a recipe and just throws things in and estimates amounts. The only problem I have with MyFitnessPal is that searching for some foods will give you several different results and it's hard to know which to use. So my question is, for those of you who do track calories/every…

Anyone using My Fitness Pal app to track know how to do Net Carbs? It keeps telling me everytime I eat a Quest bar that I've gone over my carb goal as I have it set at 30g carbs per day, but I'm wanting to track net carbs instead of total. Anyone know?

I have this premade / crusted tilapia in my freezer. I have eaten it before WLS and it is wonderful. Tilapia is on my list of approved foods for "soft foods" stage that I am in now, but I am just not sure about the tortilla crusted part. (Spicy doesn't seem to bother me.) For one filet it is 28g Protein and 17g carbs. Obviously I won't be able to eat an entire filet because it is quite large for me this early but what do you think about the crust part? Suppose it would be ok? Not sure I can scrape it off. Just trying to decide whether to try them or just toss them if it is not truly a healthy choice because of the carbs. Thoughts?

I am at 5 months out and I notice that I do not stay under the recommended 800 calories per day put keeping my Protein between 60 -80 grams. What do others eat throughout the day to stay where you need to be. I usually eat yogurt and a fruit for breakfast, tuna fish and salad for lunch, a snack in the afternoon of a Protein Bar and dinner is meat (fish, chicken, pork) and a veggie and a protein snack at night. I have been stalled for about 4 -5 weeks now and need help. And yes I do exercise 5 days a week walking for about 40 minutes at a fast pace.

Did anybody eat eggplant during the puree phase? I start pureed today and didn't find any search results for eggplant puree (such a weird thing to search for!). It just sounds really good to me - I've been craving eggplant, so I'm curious if anybody tried to do a faux eggplant-parm italian-type puree thing? I was thinking of roasting the eggplant and pureeing it? Maybe searching with ricotta and tomato sauce? Any thoughts?

I didn't have popcorn at the movies yesterday. I want my first popcorn post surgery (I'm just over one year out) to taste good and be relatively healthy. That means homemade, and not microwave. I'm definitely going to have it in the next couple of weeks. The popcorn odor at the theatre has awoken my popcorn awareness. I just hope I can eat it responsibly now. In the past I used to over indulge.

I had Gastric Bypass surgery on Januray 16th, 2015. I'm now over 4 months out and am noticing as each pound drops away (I've lost 75#) that my taste buds seem to be dropping away too. Are you noticing that too? How far out are you and what are you expericening? I was always a heavy spice and heat person and now I barely taste anything, nothing seems to have that intense flavor that it used to. From meats, to dressings, to hot and spicey etc etc etc, most everyting has a slight taste but nothing to write home about. I've tried all sorts of foods (no starches, very low carbs things) but usually food is hitting flat because for me the taste just isn't there anymore. …

Guess how I spent my Memorial day? Cooking and restocking my freezer with individual sized containers of some of my favorites. One of the secrets to my success - knowing I have something delicious to heat up for dinner keeps me from eating too much take-out or impulsively going through a drive-through! Those days are looooong gone! ????

I am almost 2 months out and have lost almost 50 lbs (1.5 lbs away). While I prefer to go out for food rather than cooking my budget does not allow that often (sadly I don't get to finish the leftovers before they go bad usually). I am still getting used to how little I eat. my biggest issue is cooking a Protein and veggies that require different things and that I don't want to touch (different sauces/marinades). I swear all the pans in the house are WAY too big. Does anyone have any cooking tips and ideas for little post-op meals that does not require me to dirty 3-4 different pans. Does anyone use divided or mini baking sheets/skillets and if so where did you get …

I just bought a case of 15 of these at my local costco for 15.89. They are 18oz drinks with two servings per bottle, 5 calories per serving and 1 gram of sugar per serving. The flavors in my case were, blueberry, coconut, clementine, dragonfruit and pomegranate. The lady that was giving out the samples let me and my daughter try each flavor before we bought them. Has anyone else had these?? They were so yummy, and NO icky aftertaste which for me is fantastic. I am a little over 6 months out and use decaf tea (hot and iced) and Water to get in my liquids. It will be so nice to have some other flavors to choose from. Let me know if anyone else has tried these and…

Unfortunately, we don't do a ton of cooking at home. We are always on the go! Here are some great restaurant finds: These are all kids meals. They are all under $6. They last me 2-4 meals Chipoltle: Grilled chicken, black Beans, and fajita vegetables (hold the tortilla.) Comes with a drink I give to my son. But no toy Red Robin: Grilled chicken skewers and steamed (undressed) broccoli. Comes with drink that I, once again, give to my son! No Toy. Chick-fil-a: Grilled chicken nuggets (new!) and a fresh fruit cup. Their buttermilk ranch dipping sauce has 2 grams of sugar. Every other sauce is much higher. Either I give the drink to, you guessed it, …

Has anyone tried the new fair Life Milk products? They are amazing and pack 19g of Protein in a single serving. The chocolate is my favorite and it's so much better than the taste of the Protein shakes. Only issue is that is has 17g of sugar and 20 carbs which is kind of high. Do you guys think these are too good to be true? The sugar and carbs are definitely much higher than a typical EAS or Atkins shake. I plan on asking my NUT next week, but in the meantime...

I've always loved McDonalds sausage egg McMuffin. For years I would often stop and grab breakfast at ye Golden Arches and savor the lovely McMuffin during my commute. Ah, it may have been true love. So, having just passed my 3 month post surgery anniversary and having lost 73 lbs, I decided to return to my love for a special treat. I'd reward myself with a warm, soft, Sausage Egg McMuffin. As I held her in anticipation, breathing in her delicious aroma, I was taken back to so many lovely early morning encounters. I didn't waste any time and began to savor the deliciousness. It started well. So good. Mmmmm. Then things started to not go so well. I started feeling som…

One month out from RNY, have the all clear to eat regular foods. We are heading, as a team, to a diner for Breakfast tomorrow. I don't eat eggs. What can I get? English muffin w/butter? Can I have a slice of bacon? A sausage link? A pancake w/out syrup? Hash browns? A blueberry muffin (the namesake of the diner - it's what they're known for )So confused. My tastebuds are changing and my family is pushing me to try egg... The mere thought makes me want to gag, but maybe I'll snag a bite of someone's tomorrow and give it a whirl. TIA for and advice

I'm still losing weight albeit very slowly which I don't need to, not having much of an appetite I'm really spending a LOT of time trying to ensure I get the Protein and calories in. I have a couple of Protein shakes with semi skimmed milk a day to ensure I'm getting around 50-60 grammes of protein and then small regular meals on top but as I can only manage a few ozs a sitting I'm feel like I'm constantly eating or drinking. Struggling with the easy meat Proteins like chicken and beef, fish is much easier. Anyone else having this sort of challenge?

Hi all.... Need advice on salads/lettuce. Will I ever get to have salad again without feeling sick. Maybe I am rushing it...I am just under 12 weeks post-op. The dr. told me that I can go slow but I can try to eat what I can tolerate. I had missed salads and vegetables so much, I tried a salad. I didn't tolerate it all that well. When does being able to eat salads/vegetables and even fruit come back? Thanks

For those of you tracking your intake of macronutrients, do you just just try to stay under a certain limit for overall carbs, or do you just worry about your net carbs (total carbs - Fiber = net carb intake)? From the research I've done, some nutritionists mention net carbs something to measure and others don't use the term at all, so I'm not sure how "legit" the whole idea is.

"Enlightened - The Good-For-You Ice Cream" Sea Salt Caramel bars. 80 calories, 7 gm Protein, 5 grams of Fiber, 5 grams of Sugar. It was a decent sized bar too! On the box they had pictures of so many other of their products. I wouldn't eat them daily, I have only eaten one in a week. That being said, Ice Cream has never been one of my trigger foods. Otherwise, proceed with caution!

I had my surgery 3/31. I was on liquids for the first week. At my follow up my doc said I can proceed to soft foods, and by next week I can try normal foods. This is shorter than the plan that the doctor's office instituted for me. (By about 10 days). I've been trying new foods and have had no issues. I've read so many bad things about rupturing the stomach, etc. that i'm freaking out! How can plans be so different from person to person?

I just got an activity tracking band. This can connect to an app called My Fitness Pal, which can be adapted to fit any diet goals. Is there a diet, maybe by %s that will work for a veteran type gastric bypass. I've always tried to get 80 grams of Protein in but have never seen any guidelines that include carbs, calories and or Fiber etc. I've attached an example from My Fitness Pal. Can anyone advise? Thanks, Terry food Diary MyFitnessPal.com.html
