So can I put chili in the blender for a full liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Just curious. I'm on a full liquid diet (to include cream Soups, yogurt, puddings, Jello, and runny cream of what) for the first 4 weeks (I'm only 6 days post op).

I'm scared of eating anything, however. Haven't even had jello cuz I'm afraid I'm gunna burst my staples or something. I know I hafta get over that eventually (or continue to drink my meals).

Is chili in the blender ok? Or would that be mushy phase?

Mushy.

liquid is liquid not ground up stuff. It should be able to go through a wire strainer, is how my NUT explained it to me.

Chili is generally kinda heavy, i would wait until after full liquids. The jello should be fine now tho.

pureed chili would be good for the pureed stage (which generally comes before mushies). I definitely would not do it for the full liquid phase. If you did, you would need to puree it and THEN put it thru a fine sieve, which would maybe leave some of the tomato/meat "broth" if it's a more liquidy chili.

Lmao!!! And OMG :D

Only if you blend it with ice cream..

Hehehehe...

I'd puree a cheeseburger first, but that's me.

OP - you got good advice here - it's definitely a mushy or soft food, so you'll have to wait a bit. ;) But that Jello is going to melt into liquid - so have at it!

I was told that full liquid was anything you could drink through a straw. I was on that preop for my band. But for my revision to sleeve I had no preop diet except nothing after midnight. Side note: whatever you do... don't thin food with Water, use something with flavor such as Tomato juice or V8, milk, fruit juice depending on what makes sense with the food. I was on liquid the day of my surgery and pureed for one week then soft foods for a week or two. When I was on pureed I lived on Wendy's Chili in the blender and saltine crackers (chewing them until they were mush). Used the crackers to dip the puree. I figured out fairly quickly that I have very good teeth and could puree soft foods if I ate small bites very slowly. :)

I am on a full liquid diet and I am 16days post op. I wanted to know if Carrot Soup and split pea Soup are ok. I just finished eating some carrot soup and i think that I eat a little to much. because it hurt and a little came back up. So if anybody has any good Ideas of soup recipes, I am open to all the help I can get.(cream of wheat is not doing it for me.

Thanks,

Reuben

Full liquids mean that you should be be blending those Soups into puree, but otherwise they'd be fine. Sounds like you ate a bit too much - it happens, so just try to keep an eye on it and eat very slowly. In the very beginning, taking a few bites and waiting a few minutes worked better for me. Our full signals aren't the same and it's easier than you'd think to miss it. For me, it's a runny nose followed by sneezing but pay attention to anything that feels different as you're eating and stop if you even suspect you might be full.

Good luck,

~Cheri

And soup ideas? I've got lots and lots of them but the best thing I can recommend to break up the monotony is to go for spicy or flavorful - so curries or peppers or anything with zing is going to make your diet infinitely more interesting than gruel (what I call the cream of wheat - who eats that stuff?).

The Imagine Soups that come in a box are really good if you don't want to make your own. The potato leek and broccoli were my favs.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
