Hey everyone, I'm hoping to have the surgery this Fall. My husband and I are both overweight. I'm hoping that my new healthy eating habits will rub off on him. Does anyone have any healthy recipes that your spouse/family really enjoy? I want us both to start eating better so we can become a healthier family. He's really picky about veggies, unfortunately. Sometimes I can slip them in if I puree them, lol.

I'm 10 days out of surgery and every time I watch TV the food commercials drive me nuts, of course I won't stray but they're really bothersome. My parents are morbidly obese and constantly ordering fast food and eating junk in front of me so all I smell is the food that got me to 276 lbs. It's killing me. Will this go away? I don't want to crave junk anymore :[ - Kaylee Ann

I have had a craving lately for avocados... which is completely strange since before about 3 months ago I couldn't stand the taste of them. I do know that avocado's are high in fats and I don't want to be sabotaging my weight loss efforts! I had 1/4 of one this morning with a egg and green pepper omelet and 5 strawberries. I also had about 1/2 of one yesterday. I did some research and I've seen that one a day is ok, but then somewhere else it says that one per week is ok... I'm so confused!!

I've seen lots of poster's refer to their MFP food diary for hints and ideas of meals. I've tried to search for the thread of user info for MFP, but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated!

Came accross this website when I was searching for Protein shake alternatives, could be interesting or helpful? http://www.livestrong.com/slideshow/556857-20-delicious-protein-powder-recipes-that-are-not-shakes/#slide-1 Note: I did try the protein cookie one, and it was BEYOND nasty. Couldn't even get one bite down.

I had been using "everyday health calorie counter" free app. Then I heard people talking on here about " my fitness pal" so I tried it. I couldn't figure out how to change portion size, or add mid morning, afternoon snack. I went back to my original app. If anyone is interested I highly recommend the "everyday health calorie counter" you can adjust the serving size and has a lot of the same things as my fitness pal. Happy charting!!

Hi there! I am considering having the VSG procedure done and was curious as to what a typical meal looks like once starting to eat solids? Also, would love to hear a sample day from someone who is at least 6-12 months out. Also, any advice or experiences (good, bad or ugly) you have had? Thanks!

I used to love food, enjoyed eating, and everything was related to food,.. and after 2 months postop, my relationship with food is so different. I have no cravings, no desire to eat, no interest in food whatsoever. I feel stuffed all day, and I feel afraid of mealtimes. I eat to provide my body with nutrients, but is feels more like doing laudry , and no enjoyment. Sometimes I wish I could get what my body needs by pills. Am I the only one experiencing this?

Do you have any tips on what to eat the first few weeks after surgery? I'm starting to buy stuff for my surgery (8/18/2012 with Dr. Alvarez). He has provided clear liquid diet instructions but if folks have tips on what kind of unflavored protein powder (what do you add it to? water? broth? or do you buy the protein broth?). I don't want to stock up on a bunch of stuff that I won't actually eat/drink. Any thoughts on the Isopure drink (it seems expensive...I was going to see if anybody uses unflavored protein powder with crystal lite or vitamin water zero? Not sure how that would taste). Any tips are greatly appreciated!!

I was sleeved on March 14th...have lost 43 pounds since surgery...BMI went down from 35 to 31...looking great...feeling great. I am just worried because I have been hungry. When I eat, it doesn't take much to fill me up but I get hungry quick. I know that I am not eating my protein like I should and have been snacking around (that's what got me here in the 1st place). I went on vacation for a week...ate like crazy...then I was off last week...ate like crazy. Luckily, I didn't gain any but I haven't lost any either in the past 3 weeks. I know what I am supposed to do but gotta get my mind set on it. I just really had to vent and get it out of my system. Any suggest…

OK,OK,OK,OK...........I'm day 8 of my preop diet, only liquids are allowed from now until surgery on 7/16. I have sort of steered away from broths during this process because when opened they stink and earlier in the week the beef broth was disgusting. SOOO, today I got back up on my horse and opened a can of chicken broth, I added a little sea salt, poultry seasoning, garlic powder and pepper. Got my kitchen smelling like chicken and dressing. It is so good, that I ask my husband to taste it and he wanted to keep my mug. No he is maad because there is no chicken and dressing for Sunday dinner. Also MADE my first protein shake today and smells GOOD, added some sf carmal f…

Has anyone here done the Weight Watchers program after being sleeved? I don't necessarily want it specifically to loose the weight, as I know the sleeve will help me with that. But I want to learn how to eat differently. I need help changing my eating habits, and I think a long term program like WW would be good to help me figure out what works for my family. My husband wants to loose some weight as well, and would be willing to be in the program with me. Just wondering if it's "allowed" to join WW after WLS surgery (not that they can stop you, but you know what I mean).

I have seen several recipes both on-line and in cookbooks, but need some advice! My program recommends servings per meals versus calories/carb/fat/protein limits etc. I am not sure how to determine if a recipe meets all the requirements of if I need to add additional food items to meet my exchange requirements. For example dinner i am allowed 3 protein, 2 carb, 1 vegetable, and 1 fat exchange. Any suggestions to help fit these recipes into my life. Getting so tired of boring chicken and turkey, rice or potatoes, and a vegetable every night. I loved to cook pre-op and like variety. Thanks,

I love the Tru Moo brand of chocolate milk. It is a 1% milk which is easy on my stomach. There is a fat free brand, but I haven't seen it in my area. It also keeps me full for long periods of time. A half gallon would last a little over a week. I seem to use it as a Meal Replacement. How healthy is this new milk obsession? I've added a photo of the nutritional info.

The difference between the calorie, fat and carb counts for items without nutritional labels are staggering. So which one is correct? Are My Fitness Pal entries just from anyone? Is that why some entries are misspelled? ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Hey team, I was thinking of doing a short Paleo experiment for a week. For those unfamiliar with Paleo, it's a certain type of eating that's believed to mimic the way our ancestors ate before the advent of agriculture. In its strictest form, it's the raw food diet; the mainstream form is basically lean meats/fish + eggs + veggies + fruit + nuts and no grains of any sort, no legumes, and no dairy; and the least restrictive form allows dairy (albeit organic only) but still eschews legumes and grains. Of course, you are not allowed any sugar or artificial sweeteners, and no processed foods. But there's no limits on fat intake, no calorie counting, and no portion control (not…

I put these ingredients in a blender. Watermelon chunks, crushed ice. Vitamin water Zero go-go mixed berry flavor that is naturally sweetened. Blended it and you got your nice ice drink. I was just telling my husband that I want sushi but I'm scared to try the rolls because of the rice. I'm 4 months out and I'm still not ready. So I'm curious how many people can tolerate rice, even a little bit, and how far out you are. Ultimately, I guess my question is: will I ever be able to enjoy a small portion of sushi again?

My A1C and glucose are normal, but my cholesterol still came back very high. It's frustrating when I'm trying to eat mainly Protein and it causes the cholesterol to shoot up. I know I should nix the cheese, but it makes me happy and makes it easier to stay away from all the Pasta, bread and potatoes. Should I be a thin person with bad cholesterol or a fat person with good cholesterol? Are those my choices? It runs in my family. We don't get cancer. We have strokes in our 80s.
