Hey guys and gals. I had my band put in in August of this year. Have lost 30lbs. Not as much as I had hoped for by this time, but still a good bit of weight. I started off 2 weeks after having my surgery walking and was up to 4 miles a day. I had to stop walking for a while because a few years ago I got hit in the back and the impact was so bad that it fractured one of my vertabrae and it has now sit up with good ole uncle author. I am needed some advice on what I can do to help take the weight off a little faster in the exercise department. Anyone care to help me out some?

I bought it and it's still in the box. I am contemplating sending it back for a refund. I have a gym membership where I like the group fitness classes and my home gym has a treadmill, recumbent bike and weights. I'm thinking I don't really have time the WAVE.

Does anyone have this or tried this? I am 15 pounds to goal, and since I can't afford the $12,000 for PS right now (darn economy), I thought this could help me tone up. I do cardio at the gym 4-5 days a week for 60 minutes, but as soon as I touch the weights, I bulk. I thought the Fluidity bar sounded good, and I found a couple on Craigs list for $100. Thanks in advance!!!

I was wondering if anyone has had a personal trainer. What is the usual price of one. My husband said I could get one for the gym but doesn't know what to expect to pay for one. I don't want to spend a whole hell of a lot but do want to spend the money and get one. I feel like it would help. What did you do with your personal trainer?

I recently bought a book called Maran Illustrated Weight Training and I'm loving it. It has COLOR pictures of the Start, Finish position of different exercises and a picture of what NOT to do wrong. Demonstrates the kind of equipment used to do different exercises. Anyway, in the back of the book, they have sample workout routines so I have made me some forms up by typing things into MS Word documents and I thought I'd share these if anyone could use them. I'm planning to take them to something like a FedEx Kinkos and get a 30 or 60 page (copies) printed and bound into a loose spiral type booklet that I can use to write in. Get moving in 2009 is my goal! Daily Workout…

Hi to all. I was banded less than 2 weeks ago. I have my doctors OK to return to doing cardio. Before surgery I was a pretty avid bicyclist, riding 20-40 miles at a time at a good clip (16-18mph on my own, 18-20 in a pack). I went out for rides a few times this week and find that my speed has dropped off...and the hills are particularly difficult. I am wondering whether this post-op diet of 500 or so calories per day is simply incompatible with prolonged, moderately intense cardiovascular activity. I don't want my fitness level to go down!! Does anyone have any experience with doing significant cardio in the post-op period? What adjustments did you have to make, if any? H…

Santa's bringing me a treadmill this Christmas. I've been doing some research about them, but I've never used one before. What qualities should I be looking for in a good treadmill? Some list a cupholder as a great design feature, but I have a hard time believing that is a make or break issue. Thanks for your input.

I really think I would like to try out the body bugg, but I have concerns. My upper arm is VERY large and I have the whole "hang" thing going on. Will all this extra fat still allow for accurate readings? Is the strap going to be big enough for my arm? And, will I have problems keeping it on, as fat seems to move and shift more than muscle? Thanks.

Hi all, I am trying to find out the easiest way to find out about Walk-a-thons. I am specifically looking for walk-a-thons for Sarcoidosis and Diabetes in my area (or state). There are others I would definitely do as well, I really want to do causes that either affect my family and friends. I thought this would be a good way to help a cause and get exercise in as well. I tried doing a search online, but didn't find anything for Sarcoidosis. I am going to try and find Diabetes. Thanks!!

I was banded 9/23 and have lost 30 pounds. Started out at 305 pounds so you can do the math. I know I need to exercise more. I walk the treadmill 20 minutes a day at home. I joined a gym and that has turned out to be a joke. A little skinny fit person went through the machines with me and told me what I had to do before and after my workout regarding cardio. Well, no matter how hard I try, I can't do it. I am too fat to do what they are expecting. If I could do the arch machine for 30 minutes I would. It is kind of like a stair climber in a way. I can't. I really thought I was having a heart attack. In fact, one of the other ladies came over and asked if I was …

Ok for Christmas, Dh and I got a gym membership. Good part, we know the owner (friend of dh's). Bad part: My self confidence and fears that I have about going to gym is getting bigger and bigger. I'm a big girl and I'm so nervous to go there. I just want to get used to going and doing aerobic activity. What should I do? How do you overcome your fears? HOw did you start out? I wish I could make the fear go away!

I am about 5 weeks post-op and I must say that I am a bit concerned about my weight loss journey so far. As some of us on this site, I have been heavy all of my life; however, I've always been an athlete. I was a collegiate athlete as well (shot put, discus, hammer), so I thought it would be a breeze to lose weight with the lap band while being an advid exercise-er... Anyway, I've been going to the gym about 4 days a week, burning an average of 700 calories in an hour or so. I usually jog, do the eliptical, or walk on a steep incline on the treadmill. I hadn't started lifting weights yet until I was cleared by my doc which was yesterday. Well I definitely notice that …

I am having a very hard time getting in any exercise (except for trudging through snow.) I had been swimming 5 days a week, but for the last 2 weeks only went once. Not only did it seem too cold most days to get in the pool, but now I am on day 5 of being essentially snowed in. I only left the house in the car once, and going to the gym means driving DOWN and back UP the steepest hill in my city. Aside from going on very cold, chilly walks, what do you do? I haven't room for equipment in my tiny little apartment. (I saw a PSA on TV about getting exercise in the winter and it made me realize this is probably not just my problem!)

I just wanted to say that on December 14th I finished my third half marathon and broke the two hour mark. Not by much though 1:58:07, which is my best time of the three. I kept an average pace of 8:30/mile. Overall I was pleased, however, my next half is on Jan. 18th and I hope to lose 20lbs. before that and shave another 6-8 minutes off my finish. My cardio was perfect, however I broke a cardinal rule of running and wore new sneakers, my previous pair had over 600 miles on them and were in shambles. Should never run long distances on new sneakers. Oh well. I will let you know how my next one goes. Back to training, 90 miles per month.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation is once again sponsoring the LIVESTRONG Challenge in four cities this year: Seattle, Philly, San Jose, and Austin. There are walking, running, and cycling events, with a variety of different lengths for different skill levels. The events are six to ten months away, so plenty of time to put your band to good use in training to stretch yourself for a great cause. I'm getting banded in March and already training to complete the 100-mile bike ride in Seattle this coming June. A favorite bike blogger of mine is a guy who knows the challenges of being overweight and has put together teams in all four LIVESTRONG cities in honor of his wife, …

Has anyone ever had someone tell them they may be exercising too much? I have my band at 1.5 cc and am eating 3 small meals a day, and have had little weight loss recently. I had to have my band loosened last summer because I couldn't keep anything down, and while it was completely loose I ate like a pig and put all of my weight back on. It was only supposed to be loose for 2 weeks but my doctors kept cancelling my appointments because of scheduling conflicts, and I took FULL advantage of the 3 months that it was loose. Since October I've gotten back on track and have been exercising regularly....walking, jogging, biking, yoga, etc...usually 6-7 days a week, between 1…

I feel sooooo virtuous...Thanksgiving and I didn't overeat...and I didn't even have room for any pie...wow For the first time the holiday was about the spirit of the celebration and not the consumption of large quantities of food. Now, comes the hard part...Christmas treats in the teacher's lounge at work. It's soo easy to take a taste of this, a bite of that, one little cookie, ect. until you realize you've eaten the day away a little at a time... How are others going to tackle the Christmas "Cheer"?

I've read on some blogs that some people have specific exercises for each day of the week eg: monday walking, tuesday gym etc. I'd like to set up a routine so that I wont get bored and hopefully will begin to enjoy exercise. It seems that the people who are really successful have incorporated exercise into their life. So if you have a routine I'd love to hear about it to get ideas please...

Greetings! I am hoping to find some good exercise equipment soon. I am tentatively scheduled for Lap Band surgery on October 20, and need to find cardio exercise that fits with my BMI of 40, scoliosis in my back, and recent foot surgery - low- or no-impact cardio exercise. I was looking at ellipticals, but my husband would prefer a recumbent exercycle. My doctor (not surgeon) suggested the elliptical or some kind of bowflex that I can't remember the name of. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with equipment that we can benefit from as Bandsters. What do you think?

I saw some of you talking about the trikke on here....it looks like fun. I looked at their web site but KNEW y'all could give me more info on it. What are the pros & cons? What are your experiences? What equipment is a must have....well besides the obvious, a Trikke! On the trikke discussion board (I can't remember the name of the site) I saw a lot of people talking about falling off, breaking ribs etc....yikes! I hope that is becasue they are going really fast or that they are doing extreme stuff. Thanks! Elizabeth

Just starting to exercise again and I have a good treadmill. I'd like to start tracking my steps as walking will be my main exercise so I want to track both the treadmill and all other steps just walking around. I don't need many bells or whistles as I am not one to spend the time plugging in data, calories, etc. I only want to spend about $50 or less (not ready for that bodybugg yet). I've never used a pedometer before..Any suggestions? I saw someone here mentioned the Omron pedometer and specifically the Omron HJ-720ITC. I see it has a PC interface, which might be cool to track progress over time, but it depends how easy this is to use. Anyone have details/use this on…

I have been using the Wii Fit for a little over a week and have lost almost 4 pounds. The Wii lets you advance as you can. It has strength training, yoga, aerobatics and balance. My sister told me today that her local Nursing Home has one in for their residents. Check it out.

Is there anyone in the Conroe/Woodlands area that would like to form an exercise group and get together several times (2-3) a week to exercise? I'd like to get a group together, and each time we meet, we'll use a different exercise video for variety and generally have exercise, support, etc. It's easier to stay active on a regular basis when there's a group to be accountable to and this is a free way to do it -- I know I cannot afford to join a gym or anything like that. I thought this would be a good alternative. Anyone in this area who's interested, please PM me and we can get started getting a group together. Have a great day everyone!!!:smile2:

Looking for inspiration to get exercising again, I had the brilliant idea of combining it what what I love most -- travel. Today I decided to run the Crescent City Classic 10K in New Orleans on Easter weekend. I already had a gift certificate for a few complimentary hotel nights, so this fits in nicely. I have only done one 10K ever before, the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, and training for that years ago was also motivating. Here's to another successful experience!

I was banded a week ago and was wondering when it would be safe to start exercising. My doctor gave me a vague response like whenever you feel like you are ready. For the most part I am fine I just get these severe abdomenal pains and pain in my left shoulder about once a day which goes away with pain meds. I also am on a shake diet (5 per day for the first 2 weeks) but am only getting down about half of what is recommended. It's not that I get tight its just my body just really doesn't want anything more. Can I start exercising again? During preop i had bulit up to walking between 5-8 miles and run/walking about 3.5. What has your experience been? What do you recommend…

OK... some people mentioned that I should start my own thread...so here it goes. I've debated between the Bodybugg and Actitrainer for a few months. There was a lot I liked about the Actitrainer...but I couldn't find anybody who actually owned one. There are maybe two reviews on Amazon.com that are positive. Anyways...24hrfitness was having this awesome special on the Bodybugg and when I went to order, the special was over. I couldn't justify spending $350 for the Bodybugg. I just couldn't. The Actitrainer is $198... and seems to give you a lot more bang for your buck. Things I liked about it: * It's the standard among researchers--used by the CDC, Cooper Ae…

This past weekend I discovered Podrunner Intervals on itunes. It's a series of podcasts that contians non-stop music to run to. There is a nine week program to train to run a 5K. It starts by walking for 90 seconds and then running for 60 seconds. Each week the amount of run time increases and the amount of walking decreases until you can run a 5k. The music changes as you workout. It gets faster when you are running and slows down during the walks. It's somewhat similar to the "Coach to 5K" program but it's to music to keep you motivated. Plus you do not need to keep looking at your watch to make your are keeping up with the correct run and walk times. The music…
