I posted this in the Men's room but I am hoping someone else might have some insight as well. "I have done 90% of my "running" on the elpitical. 325 is alot of presure on the joints. A hell of alot better than 380 but still more than i need be in order to "run" on daily. Congrats on week 3. Have you been able to hit the BPM reccomendations consistanly? I find that I am not able to get the RPM on my machine above 65-70 for any kind of sustained time. I need to keep the level tension up in order to maintain form, then I end up not being able to push the pedals fast enough to get my HR to the maintained rate for the entire interval. Anyone have advice for this? I have tr…

Hello there. I'm scheduled for lap band surgery in late November and I wanted to know if excess skin can be avoided after surgery. I know if the weight comes off fast, then excess skin will follow, but I just wanted to hear from those out there who did not have this issue and what did you do to prevent it... Thanks!

I hope I don't make anyone uncomfortable, but I am honestly concerned about how, if at all, having sex changes after the surgery. I mean after you are healed completely---Is it dangerous to feel weight on your abdominal area from your partner? Also, sex at times can require a significant deal of abdominal work---sorry everybody, I really don't mean to get x-rated here, but I'm trying to explain myself as scienifically as possible here---is abdominal work dangerous? If so, does that ever change, I mean when will it NOT be dangerous? I'm sorry if this was weird. I'm having surgery next month, November, and I'm trying to get as informed as I can get. Thank you for your…

Okay so the other day my husband took the car with the baby's seat in it and I wanted to go to the store...I pack up the stroller and get my son ready and off we go...the store is 1.8 miles from our apartment and it is very very very hilly. I get down the first hill and half way up the second one when I stop and say "What the heck was I thinking?!" No stopping now though...I'll just walk to the store get what I need and wait for my husband to call and say he's on his way home. He can come get me...I finally make it to the store about an hour later. I then walk around the store for an hour and then sit and rehydrate for 20 minutes. I'm bored now...okay I made it here I'll …

I suggested to Val that we set up this thread so that those of us who are walking on Saturday can check here to see who is going, and then let others know that they are going. This way hopefully new people will not arrive and be alone. We meet at Delaware Park at 8 am, there is a snack bar (formerly called the Juicery) where we all meet. So for Saturday, August 2, 2008, I will be at the park walking. Anyone else?

OK, here is the deal. I have done great with weight training since March of this year. I work out 3 times per week for about 1 hour with a friend who is a personal trainer. But we just lift weights. I do cardio on and off but not religiously. So I am setting a goal of working out (cardio) every day this month. I have alot of Walk away the pound videos by Leslie Sansone. So on the days I work I am going to wake up early and do at least the 1 mile walk, and on my days off I am going to walk out side or ride my bike, something more creative. So if any one wants to join me to try and work out at least once a day evey day this month let me know!

For those of you who exercise- do you eat a snack before or after you exercise. I'm just wondering how eating so little food will give me the energy I need to work out. Anything you want to add is appreciate.

I bought Just my Size Yoga on Amazon.com, and it is a really good DVD for anyone trying to get into a routine if you are larger and have trouble doing normal yoga. I do. My body just is too round to put myself in some of the positions the regular yoga videos do. Anyway just wanted to share. It isn't the kind of exercise that leaves you breathless (just a caution) and I probably wouldn't make it my only exercise, but it is enjoyable and you can feel it in your muscles when your done.

Well, due to the RNC being in town and my duties because of it, I have not been in the gym since Tuesday morning. Heck, I've barely been home due to working about 45 hrs from Tues through today. Just wondering if the monthly exercise challenges have fallen off completely. Once I get back to normal, I will be able to get back into my routine. Hope everyone is doing well. Btw, getting lots of walking in doing foot patrols, so I'm still getting some exercise in. Just not the "gym" type.

We have equipment at home that I have been using since my lapband journey began but I'm feeling bored and unmotivated these days so i looked into joining a gym and hiring a trainer. So i did! my first session is tomorrow...for anyone that has worked with a trainer...what can i expect??! i'm kinda nervous and intimidated!

When I met my surgeon he stared at my stomach and made the statement I would probably need some plastic surgery after I lost my weight. I do look ready to deliver, but I can't afford a plastic surgeon. Does anyone know of a good way to loose these basketballs with no impact to very low impact exercise? He acted like surgery was the only answer:sad_smile: Thanks in advance

Okay so I am starting a new program today after work. It is an aquajog/aerobic class and I was wondering if anyone has done anything like this. I love swimming, I always have. I don't see it as excersice or something hard or anything like that. I am trying to figure out what has taken me so long to jump into it (no pun intended.. haha) but for me this seems like my obvious solution to bump up my cardio movement and get my workouts in regularly.. Any thoughts are appreciated on this... Thanks so much.

Hello, I am wondering if anyone who might work out at a Curves gym has had the opportunity to use the new Curves Smart electronic equipment. I just joined a Curves about a week ago, and I'm enjoying it; it's definitely good hard work and a very easy, non-judgmental atmosphere, and lots of cheesy 70's music that I love. :-) For those who aren't familiar, with the Smart equipment, you carry around a little card and put it into a reader in a little electronic monitor attached to each piece of equipment, and it tells you if you're working hard enough, and keeps track of your workout. Then you put it into a computer at the end of the workout and it tells you which machi…

My pool has already dropped to 76 degrees and I just can't stand to get in it anymore, it's painful that cold! I was hoping to use it for at least another month before the water got too cold. I'd like to buy a short wetsuit so I can keep swimming but I can't find plus sized wetsuits on the internet. I don't really want to wear a men's suit cause it would be too big around the shoulders and probably still too small around the hips. I'm kind of embarrassed to go to a sporting goods store and try them on, they ain't exactly easy to slip into, and can you imagine the salesperson's face when somebody my size asks for a wetsuit? Anybody know of a website that sells them fo…

When I was banded on Dec 18th 2007 I was mad at myself for letting it get to this point. As I sat by myself in the pre-op room in Colorado I thought how I was going to make this work for me. Listed below is what I feel worked for me and what I would recommend to others. 1. You should fail at something at least 3 times a week. When I was first cleared to walk I decided to walk bleachers at my local high school. I wrote down in my book that I would walk these bleachers 50 times before stopping. I made it 28 times before I literally could not do it. My legs cramped and my back hurt because I was hunched over and didn't know it. I pushed myself to the limit and know for a …

I was just banded on the 18 of aug. I havent joined a gym or anything yet. Part of me wants to but part of me dont. I use to go to curves a few years ago. I did a diet with it and went 3 times a week for about 2 months. My problem is, I never lost any weight but built muscle which made my number in pounds go up. I know it went up because of the muscle but I just cant stand the site of a scale that goes up no matter what. What am I to do?

I just got banded 5 days ago and so far its been hell BUUUT I know that there should be light at the end of this tunnel end of week 2 I'm hoping  For the future, I was wondering if we are at all limited in exercising? Once I get my energy level up and some weight off I play pretty hard (so to speak)... with tennis, volleyball, dancing, etc and was wondering if I needed to be careful about moving my body a certain way. It's probably silly but it's been weighing on my mind :frown: Thanks

I am not a runner, never have been. But, after having this surgery I am now trying to prove I CAN do what I thought previously was impossible. I'm entered in a 10K run at Disney in October and a half-marathon in Kansas City in October and the Space Coast Marathon (doing the half) in November. The big thing is the Disney Marathon in January. It would be awesome if we had a bunch of lap-banders represented!! I don't care if I'm the last person over the line as long as I FINISH!!! Anybody with me?? D.

I thought I had previously read about a website where you could create a playlist like the podcast but using your own music. I am looking for that. I can't stand the guy or the music on the podcast but love the running so I've just been watching the time on the treadmill but now I want to run outside and can't watch the time. Hopefully, someone knows what I'm talking about! Thanks!

Hello dear lapband friends! I am walking my first half-marathon in November! Who'd have ever thought it??? I am walking with Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This is a link to the letter I have posted online. Please feel free to pass it along to anyone you think may be interested in reading it. http://pages.teamintraining.org/ma/seacoast08/mballotte The Lapband was the best decision I've ever made for myself! From someone who could barely make it up a set of stairs, to actually looking forward to walking 13.1 miles...is nothing short of a miracle for me. Hooray for all of us who are getting healthier one step at a time!

Hi Everyone, I am a pretty heavy exerciser, 4-6/ 30-45min cardio sessions, 2x/1hr weight/strength training and 1x 45 min Gravity session per week. I am wondering about what to eat and how much-do you have certain foods that you eat a lot of? Do you find that you eat more when you exercise heavily? What foods are best for supporting the demands I am putting on my body? I want to make sure that with my heavy exercising I am getting the nutrients I need to fuel my muscle building. Currently, I eat between 1000 and 1500 calories a day (some days are lighter/some heavier) but I worry that I am not getting enough nutrients from veggies etc due to the focus on Protein. I do t…

I posted these in the Aug c25k thread, but didn't find any takers. I'm hoping some regular exercise experts can help. I get a tingly sensation in my right foot, in the toes. This happens after about 10 - 15 minutes of walking/running. Does anyone else feel this when they exercise? If so...what is it? Does anyone use a treadmill? If so...what can I do to fix mine - it "skips" every now and then. If I weren't holding on to the handles, I'd go flying off. It's almost like it slides forward, and then heads back. Am I too fat for it? (It had a 250 wgt limit, I'm at 230 now...It's electric, not manual. It was used and is about 5-7 years old.) Does it need greasing?

This weird thing happens when I exercise. Wherever I sweat a lot, under my arms, under and between my breasts, I get these little water blisters. It looks just like the sweat was unable to completely break through the skin and is stuck just under the very topmost layer of skin cells. They break easily by running my fingernail across them. I must have at least 50 a day. I try exfoliating those areas and still, same problem. I do sweat as well, so it's not all the sweat getting trapped there. Am I just a freak, or do others have this happen as well?

Hi Everyone: Is anybody else out there trikking? I just love it! It's so much fun that it doesn't feel like exercise. I'm toning my abs, butt, and legs. I think it works a bit on the arms too. I can get my heart rate up to the 160's when I'm working hard at trikking. It's way more fun than walking. Check out these websites and you'll see what fun it can be. www.trikke.com, www.trikketampa.com, www.trikketalk.com Love my band:wub:, love my trikke:wub:, love weighing 148 pounds less than 17 months ago:wub:. I hate going to the gym. To be honest, I hate exercising! But it is something I have to do. I'm not the most coordinated so I do a lot of stumbling around in most of the classes. I'm much more comfortable at home but I don't have a home gym. Anyway, I was flipping through the sales ads and saw an advertisement for the Wii Fit that will be released next week. I actually got excited about it and asked my husband to order me one for Mother's Day. It has aerobics, yoga, strength training and balance activities. The only bad thing is that it is just like the console... in demand and hard to get. I'm hoping my husband pre-ordered it before they went out of stock.

I have lost 47 pounds and I feel like the bottoms of my feet are bruised. I also felt like this when I lost a lot of weight on Atkins. I walk anywhere from 3-7 miles . . . almost daily. Is it the loss of fat on the bottoms of my feet? Is it from so much walking? It's just kind of annoying. I'm okay if I'm in running shoes or wearing comfy shoes . . . but I can barely go barefoot at all anymore. Isn't that weird?

Let's say your calorie goal is 1200 calories. Do you add calories to account for what you've burned off from exercise? I worry that I actually might not be getting enough calories because of my exercise. My surgeon wasn't ever very specific about that detail. What do you guys do?

I have been stuck at the same weight for a long while (2 months at least)yet I am continuing to lose inches. I work out at Curves on average 4 times per week, I walk at least 3 times per week, do exercises at home and do treadmill/ bikes at work when my schedule allows. I have always lost more inches than pounds but here lately seems the pounds are not disapparing off of the scale at all. I have been 225-227 forever despite all the exercise, staying within my calorie& protein range too. People say that this is good because means I am toning up and gaining muscle. I am grateful for what i have accomplished & know it's better than gaining. But I want the scale to m…

How do you all make exercise a part of your life? Every day at work I say I am going to go home tonight pick the kids up and go to the gym. Every day I pick the kids up, feed them dinner and then lounge around the house. After the sun goes down a few days a week I go riding my bicycle around the neighborhood. I am really struggling with making exercise a part of my day. My spouse is a work out fanatic but he can work out at work or on his way home occasionally and I cannot. I keep begging him to take me to the gym because I know if he were to go with me I would absolutley go. I should be able to do this on my own though and its aggrivating that I dont follow through.…

Ok, whew, I'm going to do this. I was banded 7/28 ams have lost19 lbs since the surgery. I'm happy with that but I know exercise has to be a part of my "recovery". I'm going to do the couch to 5k starting today sot that i can hopefully run/walk a 5k in october. My sister who's been running for years has said she'll do it with me, but i need to make myself accountable to fellow lapbanders. wish me luck folks, and if anyone feels like joining me I would be so happy. gigi

The club that I belong to has a nice little cafe. Twice now I have eaten right after exercising, and both times I had to run to the bathroom. One "almost" and one pb. The first "almost" pb was understandable. I had DH order for me, and ended up with a dry hunk of pork. Ugh. But today it was on an anti-pesto salad, which I normally wouldn't have any problem with. I eat salad all the time. So I'm wondering. Do I get tight after exercise, or is it just a coincidence? I'm a little gun-shy about eating after exercising now. Does anyone else get tight right after exercising? They have really yummy, healthy food there, and it is just so darn convenient. I don't want to giv…
