Fitness & Exercise

Fitness and exercise after weight loss surgery. Workouts, strength training, routines, and staying active for the long haul.

I feel like an idiot am nearly 46 and cannot ride a bicycle, never riden one. I have seen the bike shop with an adult one outside, but you tend to see only mentally disadvantage people on them. I am so tempted to get one though, but think I live in a major city, and we have to wear helmets whilst riding and then I would look real silly. Got to look into body combat classes or something else I suppose, just envious reading about all the bicyle bits on here.

  2. I dont like to work out but under the circumstances, it is necessary. I can accept that and honestly, it is not all that bad. I get to put the kiddos in the child care area at the YMCA, plug into my mp3 and listen to some tunes. I get to be ALONE. It helps that the Y has little flat panel tv's at all the machines. So, I have failed at committing to working out before so this time I decided to do it differently. I only do 30 minutes. Granted, I go more often and I total about 3 hours a week at the gym but I only 'make' myself commit to 30 minutes. I actually look forward to it.

I was just banded on 3/31. I have a membership to a gym, but last week I went to my regular doctor because I was having some problems with my knee popping. There's no pain, but until I find out for sure what's going with my knee I can't really do a lot of walking. My knee cap is supposedly not lining up correctly, so it's popping and has caused some other problems. I've had x-rays done so hopefully I'll find out the outcome soon and it won't be something that requires surgery. So, that being said, suggestions on some types of exercises that I can do. I'm ready to start exercising because I'm feeling better, but I don't have access to a pool and walking even with th…

I know it's not alot but I know I have to do something. I was hoping that there was another girl on here that was in my situation that has succeeded. I am pretty sure I am gonna need some weight training along with the cardio to tighten up some of this flab.. but I am not the type to walk into a coed gym and just pick up weights and start doing my own thing. Could someone recommend a gym preferably for girls with female trainers that wont look down on someone that hasn't been in the swing …

I have a question for all the runners. Recently i have been upping my exercise and feeling great, i'm feeling full of energy and i'm actually enjoying my workouts. But once i get out there i start wanting to do more and more, but the thing is i got a herniated disc since i was 16 and i was told not to do any type of exercise besides swimming or walking. Last year the herniated disc popped out again and i had to stop any exercise for around 6 months. Now it has healed but my left leg is still a bit weak(i am hoping it will get better in time). At the moment i am biking 30 minutes a day(it's a bike for people with back problems), doing some weight lifting for my arms and …

I will be seeing my DR. for my 2nd fill on Wed. so I will ask him but just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience

  9. If you’re anything like me, you wouldn’t consider exercising your favorite pastime. In fact, some people downright hate exercising. However, exercising is a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle, and without it you definitely will not be able to lose weight. There are certain tips, however, for learning to love exercising, even if you truly hate it. First, try finding some exercises that you like to do. Of course, you should work out all of your body, but if you absolutely hate doing one kind of exercise, then look for another to take its place. You don’t have to do crunches to strengthen your core muscles. You don’t have to do lunges to work out y…

I workout, and follow the band rules. I'm constantly cold at night. I live in vcr bc and its around 8 C which is cold for this time of year. Could it be the weight loss, or not enough food. I eat about 1100 calories a day, but on the on the odd day only about 800. I'm trying for 1200 a day as I walk 16 kms a week, and work out with a trainer 2x week for an hour each time. Why am I so cold. I was always a hot person before. I am taking a hot bath tonight just to warm up. thx

Here is my list of questions, I would appreciate it if anyone could try to help out. My daily routine has been 35min on elliptical (400 cals) and then 30 on this new jogging bouncing machine (325 cals). just for the cardio a total of 725 cals burned. After that I have been doing about 15 minutes on either upper or lower body weight training. and then 5 minutes on abbs. It is actually calorie burning that you need to be concerned about. The myth stems from the fact that lower intensity exercise does burn a higher percentage of calories from fat than from carbohydrates. That sounds …

I was walking yesterday and the device (in the holster) snapped off of my waistband! Luckily I heard it hitthe ground, or it would have been gone.....gone... gone! Do any of you have any advice about how to keep it secure? The directions say that the best results come from wearing on the waist, so I don't want to use the armband accessory. Any information would be really appreciated. :confused2:

I think this may be my favorite NSV so far. DH & I went out of town for the weekend, and there were several other people that went as well for a bowling tournament. Anyway, at the hotel, I went into the fitness room and got in a workout. It was only a 30 minute workout, so it wasn't STELLAR, but hey, I was proud of myself for at least doing SOMETHING... So here's the NSV. One of the ladies there that we knew, and play volleyball with asked me the next day, aren't you SO sore? And I didn't know what the heck she was talking about. I wasn't sore at all, because 30 minutes for me now is a pretty easy workout. Well, she had seen me doing my workout, and was …

When DS asked me what I wanted for my birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas I asked him to put it together and I even offered him money. I kept telling them I needed to get on it because my health was deteriorating but that didn't seem to matter. I finally got someone to drag it into the living room and I put it together. That was a couple of weeks ago and I've only been able to do 5 minutes 6 or 7 times a day. Today I was able to do 20 minutes straight, with the last 5 minutes being really hard. The reason I put this under the fitness and exercise category is because I think getting a dog would also motivate me to walk more. I have been checking Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. and the local shelters online. I am having a hard time picking a breed. We always had mixed breeds, medium to large in size. Now I really want a smaller dog, especially since I may end up back in an apartment. We have had a lot of puppy mill raids…

I'm starting to think about what kind of excerise will be best and how often I can exercise and I was wondering I have a friend who had the full gastric bypass she has A LOT of loose skin granted she did great and went from 354 down to 160 but she had never exercised and I'm wondering for all of you who do exercise how is your skin do you have the loose skin problems she has? I have reviewed their website and watched the video but had some questions that only other BB users can answer. If anyone can answer these questions for me, I would be grateful. Is is easy to use, such when entering your intake- can you easily find and enter in your food or do you have to keep track of your calories yourself and just enter a number? Does it give you a…

I called my insurance yesterday to get some info about their requirements, and they want me going to my doctor/nutritionist/dietician MORE than once a month to show "committment and ability to follow-up". So I want to make SURE that my docs are getting as much info to put in my chart as possible. Having said that, I'm looking for a reliable, web-based tracking method for my workouts/weight loss/nutrition info. I can't afford Body Bug, so any OTHER options would be much appreciated. I've seen them mentioned around these boards here and there, but I couldn't remember their names to search for them. Thanks!! -Mandi

We read of many folks who experience a greater "tightness" in their band early in the day and who feel more relaxed later in the day. I've been banded about 2 months and only recently returned to tennis. (I played before banding, also, but not vigorously, as you can imagine.) I'm curious about how exercise affects your feeling of tightness of your bands. My question is, have any of you noticed feeling more or less tight following gentle, moderate, and vigorous exercise? Also, I'm curious about any other differences you noticed between your endurance before and after banding, ability to keep hydrated, and so forth. I'd appreciate any insights you might have.
