Fitness & Exercise

Fitness and exercise after weight loss surgery. Workouts, strength training, routines, and staying active for the long haul.

Has anyone tried the Urban Rebounder? I am considering purchasing one because it advertises that does not affect your joints. I have arthritis and bone spurs. In fact, my orthopedic doctor told me I have the knee of a 70 year old. That's twice my age! Anyway, running is no longer an option, but I want something that will work quickly - It claims to burn 569 calories on an average sized person - so I figure I should burn that in half the time!!! – Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi everyone, I decided to ask those of you who are exercising this question. I was banded on 1/4/08 and had my third fill 5/8 (total 5.5cc). I began exercising with some regularity about a week before my last fill and noticed that I was a little tight when eating after working out (not uncomfortable mind you, just knowing I actually had a band in there). Right after my last fill I began the Couch to 5K program. I have lost four pounds since my last fill since beginning the program, however, I rarely feel restriction at all now. It comes and goes, but more often than not I don't have any. I still try to keep to my allotted amount of food, however, I do not feel if I have…

I did a few sets of crunches months ago when I started exercising, but my port and possibly the band were in such pain afterward that I have not done any abdominal exercises since. Does anyone know of good ab-strengthening exercises that won't aggravate the band? Has anyone else had this experience? I've had the band for 13 months now, so it should be healed enough to try something. Thankis!

I need some advice. I am almost three years out and about a year ago I hit a plateau and I keep gaining and losing the same 5 pounds over again. I have a sneaking suspision that it is because my exercise routine has slacked. I used to go to Curves 3xs a week and was doing fine until I quit going because they closed two of the ones that I regularly went to and there wasn't any close ones near me anymore. I bought a bowflex and I have been struggling ever since to develop a routine that I can stick with. I am confused on if I should concentrate more on cardio or strength, for how long, how many days and all that stuff because I hear different things from different peopl…

 My question is how do I do this? I basically work out mon-fri. I do ellipital machines, exercise bikes and treadmill plus I have just started to swim. So every day 2 of these for at least 1 hour per day is my cardio. I am not doing too much in the weight training. I also take 2 hour long classes for Water aerobics per week (that is not including in this list, that I do extra at night). So my question is, do they mean do ellipital training and bike every day for a week then swim the next week or do they mean swim monday, bike tues, ellipitical the next and so on? I am trying to change things up so I start losing again but I dont think i am diong it right. I just dont…

http://www.thewalkingsite.com/10000steps.html Click on the link above to find out about the program. The goal is to walk 10,000 steps a day. I have been doing it for a week and a half and I'm liking it pretty well. I did it a few years ago and it worked then too. Short walks during the day, parking far from the store, taking the stairs, all these count. It might be a good motivator. Just invest in a decent pedometer. I bought an Omron.

  9. Ok, so after seeing all the success stories associated with the body bugg... I started to budget for one. While doing some research, I found the actitrainer. (sleep study feature (which bodybugg MAY have, but I didn't see it) Which tells you how many times you get up while you are sleeping. It has a food log so you can see if you're burning more than you are consuming (which, hopefully, you are). I'm wearing it right now.. I like the challenge of seeing if I am burning more calories today than yesterday... I highly endorse it, if you were on the fence about getting a body bugg... you may want to consider the actitrainer. FYI- I challenged my husband to see who burns…

I can say I am bored with it. There is no daycare, no pool, no extras. I was looking at the local YMCA. I know they have things for the kids to do. I really want to put my kids into swimming lessons. I can swim like a fish, and they are learning, but I don't have much confidence in their ability right now and still get scared when they get into the pool at my parent's house (we don't have a pool). I feel so lost in the exercise department! I have a membership to the YMCA and I go regularly, but I still feel like I dont know what to do when I walk through the door. I guess I am doing something right, because I am losing weight. But, I guess I am the kind of person that does better with structure. I went through my 3 "orientation" classes with the trainer at the YMCA, but I didn't get much out of it. They pretty much just show you how the equipment works and told me to start slow and work my way up. I am not in a position right now to afford a personal trainer, so I was hoping for some advice. 17. When it comes to burning fat, many people tend to practice lots of cardiovascular exercises and miss the benefits of weight training. Some medical authorities even guess that weight training is used for growing bulk muscles, not to lose weight. This article will explain that this is a wrong assumption, because the growing of muscle mass will eventually burn fat calories. According to a study by the Fitness Products Council and Sporting Goods Manufacturers, the number of people lifting free weights has increased 76 percent in the past decade. And this is a great tendency, because combining cardiovascular activity with weight training results in more effective fat …

Since I am limited on space, I am having to decided which 2 pieces of equipment I want to put in my room...I have a friend who is wanting to sell her bowflex, and I am pretty sure that i am going to place it in my little room for sure...I have enough room that I can either put a treadmill in there or a stationary bike, but not both. What would you do? Maybe there is something else I should be considering? Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I did not start to have the lower back pain until I gained a bunch of weight - I've never been as heavy as I am now. Anyone with any insight? Thanks in advance.

I have a lot of muscle, and I don't want to get bulkier. I have had several trainers tell me that weight lifting is not going to make me bulkier. Anyone know if this is true? I don't want to start lifting all of these weights and gain weight! Did you exercise much, or at all before having surgery? I currently don't exercise, only what walking I do at work and the occasional walk with the dogs, but I am so excited to get the band and partner it with a steady exercise program to obtain optimal results. I am wondering if I am getting my hopes up, or if it is really possible to make such a drastic change. Thanks for you input, and keep up the great work. You are truly an inspiration to the newbies.

"Repetitive, easy exercises stimulate fat burning, while most common forms of exercise stimulate sugar burning. When you finish an hour of exercise and you are not tired or out of breath and you could easily repeat the whole routine, you are in the fat-burning zone. If you are tired, you were burning sugar.
