Have you commemorated your weight loss by running the Paris Marathon or climbing a mountain? Or are you rewarding yourself with a dream vacation? Or maybe you've become an adrenaline junkie after surgery, skydiving or bunjee jumping all over the world? I'm researching a magazine article for travelgirl magazine about WLS, especially Lap-Band, a subject near and dear to me since I was recently banded. The overall story will be about women working to make their dreams come true and how WLS has made some of those dreams even more accessible. It's possible that I may want to interview you for my article, whether you're in process or have already achieved your goal. Pleas…

Hello! I have had my Band since May 2007 and I've lost 140lbs. I've just started excercising again and I've noticed that I have a difficult time eating after a workout. It seems my band is extremely tight. Does this happen to anyone else?

Help- I have been stuck with my weight for a while now. I am walking about 3.5 miles a day and getting anywhere between 1200 and 1400 calories a day. Also, when I walk it is more of a reacewalk, and I have taken up doing Zumba and other fitness classes in the evening. I burn about 700 calories a day. What should I do? I am tired of hearing that I am gaining muscle. How much muscle am I going to gain? Thanks-

Just curious. Personality? His or her physical shape? Certifications? Would it matter to you if he or she used to be obese? If he or she had WLS of some type? Or is it just whoever happens to be working at the gym at the moment?

What was your fitness level before the trainer? Any suggestions for questions to ask a potential personal trainer? I have some concerns that maybe some of you can help me with. 1. I am not fit at all. I see shows like the biggest loser and I am terrified by what I see. Do they start out slow and let you build up gradually? 2. I am having alot of trouble with my hips lately and my back. Can this be worked around? 3. I am really good at avoiding and not acknowledging things I don't like. I fear that if a tra…

Hey bandster rock stars!! I am looking for suggestions/motivation/etc on getting my booty to the gym. I am a low BMI'r and exercise is going to be crucial for me-- I am already off to a sloooowww start. I work ALOT of hours (am the branch manager so I don't have much of a choice) in a high stress career and just cannot get myself to the gym. At the end of the day (who knows what time that is-differs every day-usually after it is dark) I cannot even face going to the gym. It is all I can do to walk to my car. Also- when I have gone after work before it wakes me up and I have problems (more than usual) getting to sleep. The opposite is also true-I do have ins…

For those of you that exercise regularly now, how long did it take for it to become routine? I mean, how long did it take for the exercise to not feel completely out of your realm of reality? I am struggling with this, so any ideas on how to get to that point would be great.

  13. For those of us who exercise a lot-has anyone asked their Dr. or nutritionist about whether or not 800-1000 calorie per day is healthy with the amount of exercise you do? If so, what was the response? Are the dietary guidelines set up for those who will not be exercising as intensely? I am just concerned about whether I am getting what my body needs to handle the intensity-I am doing a lot of muscle/strength work and the books I read have much to say about diet (make sure you eat and do not starve yourself). They tend to recommend not going below 1500-1700 calories per day. Do you think that there is an expectation that many of us will not exercise and so the calorie…

As some of you know, I have been a "workout warrior" since my banding in late Aug 2007. I haven't had many problems with my workouts. I've lost 135 lbs in that time period and cut my bf% from almost 34% to 17.5%. I circuit train mainly for my workouts. 3 circuits each workout, split upper body and legs and do each 2/wk. I start with 7 reps and increase by 1 rep each week until I get to 12 reps, a 6 wk cycle. Then, week off and start all over with increased weights and different exercises for each body part. Also, I do at least 50 minutes of cardio on days that I work and 65-95 minutes of cardio on days off. Lately, I've been giving myself 1 day off from exercis…

Hi! I am currently doing 150 minutes of excercise a day. It just is the amount that feels right to me in terms of raising my energy level. BUT, I once read that after a certain point, there is a "law of diminishing returns" when it comes to excercise - meaning that more does not add anything to cardiovascular health or weight loss. Does anyone know at what level more excercise is just pointless? 150 minutes seems excessive to me (although I love it when I'm doing it) but I'm losing really slowly. (and yes, I do track calories, am following nutritionist recommendations, but am not at my "sweet spot" yet. I have a fill set up in 2 weeks.) So, here are my questions: 1)…

I'm asking here first because I'm still trying to figure this one out - not sure whether to ask my lapband doc or my regular GP. Often, when I walk in the morning or afternoon, I will get an excrutiating pain in my lower abdomen, just at the waistline on the right side. It only seems to be triggered by walking - I do crunches, weight work, doesn't seem to bother it. It's like something is trying to claw its way into my belly. Since it happens when I'm moving I'm leaning toward the fact that it's a muscle-related pain, and I know the hip bone is connected to ... something , but what the heck?? Anyone had the same thing happen? It is only since the surgery, whi…

  22. Hello all you DFW'ers! I know there's lot's of us out there, and I hope you'll read this thread. I've just started training for the White Rock Lake marathon taking place this December. We've got a little over 6 months to train, and that should be plenty of time (well, I think at least!). I've lost about 50lbs with my band (so far), and to be honest, the first 50 was pretty easy. I didn't exercise much at all, and the weight just sorta "fell off". Well, those days are O-V-E-R! I'm finding exercise is the only way I will get the rest of this weight off (about 40-50 more to go), and what better way to do it than train for a marathon? From what I've read, you will lo…

HELP! Second inquiry. Has anyone used the Slendertone EMS belt to reduce their ABS/STOMACH/WAIST? Is it safe for lap band users? For those who do not know what EMS is (as I didn't when I first was introduced to the concept) it is a exercise system approved by the FDA that uses electronic pulses to contract musles which in turn helps you to reduce inches. I havn't tried it yet as I am a little wary since the belt goes right across my stomach.

Not only that, but we paddled for three hours. I thought for sure I was going to be sore as hell the next day and I wasn't at all. All those water aerobics classes with the webbed gloves and foam dumb bells really paid off!!! I'm ecstatic. Didn't catch one fish, but I don't even care. I had a glorious day!

Im having some very embarrassing problems with extra, hanging skin. It slaps while Im running or doing certain exercises. Not only does it make an audible sound it kind of hurts and rubs. Plus I look just wonderful bouncing/jiggling around. I do have Nike running tights and Under Armour shorts but it's just not enough. HELP Am I the only one with this problem? Right now I walk around my neighborhood a couple of days a week and bike in the gym 2x a week (30 minutes each, around 5.5 miles, average heart rate 120-ish). I don't swim much at all. There's a pool in our community but they turn off the heat in Oct. and it's tiny and weirdly shaped so it's not good for lap swimming. No pool at the gym (it's the free gym at work). All you need to do is make a commitment to run at least three times a week and follow this simple run/walk programme which will gradually ease you towards the goal. A few things to bear in mind: Allow at least a day between runs when you begin. If in doubt, slow down. You should be able to hold a conversation while you run.
