Ok I am by no means a cycling queen... I ride at a steady pace of around 10-11 MPH I believe given the distance vs time I travel. So my question is I have checked a couple sites and get all kinds of different numbers on what I am actually burning. Does anyone know of a reputable place with an online calculator that takes everything into account? Like weight, distance, speed, time etc. I have/was going to the gym a few days a week. But I realized when the sun came out a great way to burn those calories was to just ride too and from work each way about 6.5 miles... saves money on gas as well.

I don't know what's going on, but lately, I've been really pissed after I exercise. I've only been exercising for 2 weeks now at the gym. I look forward to going and enjoy being there. I spend 60 minutes doing the treadmill, bike, nu-step, and weights. Last week I went 3 times and this week, I've been 5. Does anyone know what might be going on? I mean, I'm really angry about 1/2 to an hour after I get home. Any little mistake I make, I feel like I want to punish myself. Strange. I would've thought that exercising would make me feel better, release those endorphines. I don't know.

i have been a regular, monhly platelet donor for about 3 years (they like my a-negative blood). i've been doing the low-carb thing since aug 07 and lost 46 pounds by the time i was banded in feb 08. i've lost 41 more since then. just recently, (april and then again in june) i've not been able to donate because of a low pulse (44 and 48 bpm where the minimum is 50). has anyone else encountered issues with their blood pressure, Iron levels, or pulse when donating blood or blood products?

:confused2:Hey guyz I am hoping maybe one of you can answer a question for me... I have been using the nike+ for a while now and just now got back into trying to get my "jogging" back in since surgery... today I did my usual walk which is 3.4 miles in 1 hour... I usually have shin pain so I walked the first 1.7 miles to make sure I was WARMED up and then I jogged 60 seconds at every quater mile marker and continued my "brisk walk" until the mext marker... I did 29.5 minutes down and ended with 57 minutes flat... so I know I cut time off and my brisk walk was showing about right... (16.58 minute/mile) what I noticed was that while I was jogging my pace on my i…

I am a middle school teacher. During summer vacation, I can stick to any excercise schedule that I set for myself. However, I will be returning to work August 1 :-( . I'm going to have to start thinking of a schedule for next month once the new school year starts. Going back to work is definitely going to put a kink in my exercise plan. Mornings will no longer be an option for me with 2 elementary aged girls to get ready and out the door (my husband is responsible for our 2 year old son every morning). I've never been able to consistently exercise in the evenings...there's always some interference (running my kids back and forth to extracurriculars after labor day, ho…

I've used the Taebo tapes before with great success. I just had to keep upping my amount until I couldn't keep up with it anymore, and I burned out, gained all the weight back. Now that I'm banded, I'm hoping I can just exercise once a day 3-4 days a week. I love Taebo, because the moves are not too complicated or like "dance". I am very uncoordinated and regular aerobics doesn't work for me! My sister got all the dancing genes! I have none!! But, I'm not crying, there's lots of things I'm good at!:biggrin2:

Had the band done in Sept./07 and have lost 102 pounds so far with 29 left to go. YAY!! But I'm S T U C K at 168lbs and have been for about 6-8 weeks. Maybe a very small fill but I'm not eating much at all now. I get a good amount of exercise being in retail selling as a job and also go to the gym. Is there any food that promotes weight loss??? Asparagus? Watermelon? I need all the tips I can get to lose these last few pounds.

Does anyone else on here ride the Trikkes? I just picked one up and am having a great time learning the movements to keep moving. Plus, its a great workout. Upper body, hips, abs and legs all at the same time. Check them out at TRIKKE 3-point Carving Vehicles

FINALLY got below 30 minutes for 5k. Finished my training run last night in 29:38. Started at 6 mph, after I got into my pace, increased to 6.2, then for last 6:38 bumped it up to 6.5. I was so happy to pass 3.1 miles before the timer said 30 minutes. That happiness will be short-lived though, as today is my "kick my ass" day of the week. 15 mile bike ride, followed by a 5k brick. I'll see how much of that I actually end up running versus walking - it's hot out there!!

Just wondering if anyone knows how many calories you burn exercising on a trampoline? We have one and sometimes I go jump (mostly fall down) with my daughter. I am trying to have several different exercise options to keep things from getting boring. I do know it wipes me out just jumping for a little while, but would like to have some idea of how many calories you actually burn.

Anyone know how long your port hurts you when exercising? I am 5 weeks post-op and any jogging or high intensity on elliptical makes my port hurt from the jarring. If I keep a hand pressed on my stomach and hold it, it feels better. Also, my doc told me no abs yet, but I forgot to ask when we could start them?? Thanks!

I get home from the gym at 10:30 p.m. I usually shower and go to bed. I don't eat and if I don't stay up long, I don't get hungry. However, would it be beneficial for me to eat a little something to get my metabolism up? I'm thinking a 100 calorie yogart.

I know that walking is important after surgery. But does anyone know if it's ok to use the treadmill before your 2 week post opt appointment? I have a membership to a gym, and because it's starting to get warm and muggy today I thought it would be a good idea to go there instead of walking around my neighborhood. What do you think? Thanks Heather G

It's been an interest of mine for several months. I had heard that it's good exercise and I need some additional work on my stomach and back areas. Plus, it's supposed to be fun. I wanted something new to try in addition to Curves. I had been in search of a class in my area (Richmond, VA) for quite a while with no luck. Last week finally stumbled across one and new class was starting Tuesday, April 22. After i found one, I became scared with all the self-doubt. But I did not let my fears of something new get the best of me. I went & had a great time. There are 10 of us in the class. All different ages, sizes, back grounds. Everyone was cool. The teacher seems great.…

Hi Everyone, I'm now 15 days post op and I was wondering if anyone has been swimming yet? I was thinking about going swimming tomorrow, as at my local pool, on wednesdays and fridays they have women only slots and I thought it would be ideal. I am not a strong swimmer so im not talking about a zillion lengths, but I thought maybe a gentle crawl up and down a few times!!! My stitches have been taken out now and my wounds are closed. Do you think it is too soon? If i do go, should i cover the wounds? Thanks in advance M xxx:biggrin:

I'm so excited, i've just recently purchased Richard Simmons Sweatin the the Oldies DVD. Does anyone else use this tape? I love Richard's bubbly enthusiasm and energy. I know I'm aging myself when I say I worked out to his TV show way back when but I'm looking forward to working out with him again. I'm sooooo out of shape that I think that this may be the way for me to get started again. I've got to wait 3-1/2 months yet to get banded and need something to keep my excitement up. I've never been able to keep up with the traditional exercise tapes, no rhythm. Band date coming up, September 30 in Wisconsin. I'm not sure whether to be excited of scared or what! :rolleye…

I have been using daily plate religously lately and logging my exercise and food. Do you find that the calories burned for exercise on there is accurate? I have an issue with the biking general one... They say you burn 800+ per hour for my weight. I don't see that happening. I ride my bike 39 minutes each way for work to get exercise.

You’ve had a long, taxing day at the office and you’re ready to head home and collapse in front of the TV. You promised yourself you’d do a thirty minute workout but feel too exhausted to even think about it. Does this sound like a familiar situation? Two of the most common reasons people give for not working out are lack of time and fatigue. After all, a long day taking care of family or working at the office takes time and energy. Unfortunately, you still need exercise for both fitness and relaxation. What can you do to motivate yourself when you’re too tired to work out? Too tired to exercise: Have your Iron levels checked If you already exercise and find you’r…

There are many activities that can be incorporated into your exercise regime whilst on a vacation. Whether the vacation is taken by a beach, in a caravan or a near mountains and snow there are many ways to fit exercise into your daily routine. Swimming If the vacation is by a beach or a pool then swimming is an excellent sport to take as a daily exercise. It is one of the best to take up whilst away. It will make the body fit and healthy working every muscle and giving you strength and vitality. It will, also, burn lots of calories compensating for all those extra foods eaten. If you cannot swim, then just simple movements such as jumping or walking i…

Okay, Now that I am exercising at least 2 hours a day, from water aerobics classes, cycling classes, circut, regualr aerobics & weight lifting& good old walking; My scale weight only fluctuates a pound or 2 up or down. My clothes fit GREAT! I am down from my preband size (dec 2007) of 20-22 to 16 ~ I started at 251 & am down to 196.I did have a set back, from my band sliping, being too tight & a 99% unfill, have started anew with putting on about 10 lbs, a slight refill & starting again! I am just stuck on the scale thing. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, but even my Dr goes by my scale weight to dictate fills etc. How do ou judge your sucess…

I'm am debating either getting an iPod Shuffle or an iPod Nano - one of the deciding factors will be whether I want to try to use the Nike fit feature with the Nano. I would love to hear some feedback from some of you that use it - do you like it, does it really do a good job of tracking distance if you do a combo walk/run, etc... Thanks.

I just joined a gym and had my first workout yesterday. I am so pleased with myself and them. They are really going out of their way to help me and make sure I am comfortable and not embarrassed by being there. This is a big step for me. I hate doing anything in front of anyone. But I know that it is time and I need to get started now. I can continue what I have been doing at home....but they will help me keep accountable for the program they set up for me. I am excited. I want to pull off at least 35 pounds before school starts and firm up some. I look forward to new and exciting adventures.

For many of us retirement means a chance to relax after years of working hard five days (or more) a week. Yet it is easy to let that relaxation get the better of you, leading to low fitness levels, too much time spent indoors and poor health. Thankfully there are several simple ways to make sure this doesn’t happen – and none of them require a gym membership or running shoes! 1 – Make small changes daily to ensure you stay active. There may be no need to go out at all some days, but if you do – even if only for a short walk – your overall health will benefit. Why not leave the car at home when you need to pop into town? That brisk walk first thing in the morning…

I go to the gym and walk on the treadmill and over the years have tried jogging however I found I wasn't able to do so for more than 10 seconds without feeling I was going to collapse. This week I decided to give it another go and alternating walking and jogging did 60 seconds and then 30 seconds of jogging the first time (what can I say, I like to start slow ha ha), 2 mins and then 3 x 1 minute the second time and today I did 2 mins and then 5 x 1 min (plus 13 minutes of walking in between). Yay me!!!! :tongue2::smile2:

Hi everyone, I have been working really hard at the gym (both cardio and strength), but now that it is spring in Canada I am hoping to do some more walking outside. My question is this - Does anyone know of a piece of equipment or a way of tracking the distances I am walking? I cannot get a pedometer to work on me (I don't know if I am lopsided or something, but I can't even get one to be accurate even when I walk around the house trying to calibrate it). When I go on regular streets, I get in my car and check the mileage, but that limits where I walk. Help me, please

I don't know if anyone else on here does Walk away the pounds by Leslie Sansone. But I love it! I have the 1 mile walk, 2 mile walk, and I am planning to get 3 and 4. I love the stretchy band and how she cordinates upper body with walking and not just walking. Kicking, lifting your knees. It's actually a wonderfully awesome healthy workout. Anyone else do these videos?:confused2:

I recently started using a FitDay journal and I don't know what's going on but it seems totally off. For the last two days I ate the exact same menu and exercised the exactly same way for the same time. But it's telling me that Friday's Calorie Burn Total was 3576. And it says yesterday's Calorie Burn Total was 2181. I don't get it. Is it just me?

Will it hurt to do cardio and strength on alternating days? I was thinking of doing my bowflex on M W F and on Tues and Thursday my cardio. Will it hurt to do them on seperate days than to split them 30 cardio and 30 strength on the same day? I seem to stick better with it if I concentrate on strength only one day and the next cardio only. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :wink2:

Alot of times after I excersise I get really bad leg cramps, pains in arms ect. that last for days before I can excersise again. Even as of late I wake up in the middle of the night with leg cramps. Had problem with one arm with wrist hurting that it wasnt able to move certain ways..and that comes and goes. My mother said I might need more potessium in my diet. Just wondering if anyone had experienced this after being banded. I often wonder if standing 8 hours at work 5 to 6 days a week is finally effecting me. Every job I ever had is standing/walking. I just want to get to excersie and get to my goal of 190 by sept 1st.

I have a very active job working in a warehouse. I bought a pedometer about a year ago and wore it that next week at work. Just at work alone,my average steps were between 11,500 and 12,500. And this is getting on and off the fork lift and other machines. This is the reason, I know I could lose weight if I could control my food and get a jumpstart on things. Of course changing my eating habits will also be the key.Just thought I would ask. Have a great day everybody. Only 1 more day until Monday.

Well, as one has not been started yet, I'll start my 2nd month in a row challenge thread. Last night I made it into the gym and did my upper body and cardio in one hard stretch. This morning I did the same with lower body and cardio as tonight there is a get together for our Lt that retired last Friday. Have to make that. No beer though. I've had my quota for the week. (ok, a little more than my quota:rolleyes:) Had my monthly appt with the PA yesterday. She keeps calling me her star patient for what I've done with the program. Said as I have lost 49% of my excess body weight, (by my count that means they think I should weigh about 175 :thu…
