heart rate monitor strap and the port

I tried using a heart rate monitor strap and it's not comfortable with my port- anyone else have any experiences with this?

I forgot to mention it is not working either- wonder if the port is interfering? I put it a few inches higher than my port- so its not like its on top of it or anything
