I used to hate cooking. My late husband commented to my family once that he actually asked for meatloaf for his birthday meal. Just meatloaf. Something so simple, but since he ate Cereal, PBJ's, and hot dogs everynite, meatloaf was a special thing to him. He was lucky if I cooked twice a month. And never homemade. I always used prepackaged foods. My mom is an avid cook and cookbook collector. She started buying me cookbooks (that I never opened). Why do I need to cook when Lean Cuisine, Kraft, Hamburger Helper all did a fine job at it for me? When I lost my husband almost 6 yrs ago, I weighed about 200 (always overweight me whole life). But then over a 2 yrs span, I gai…

Does anyone have a favorite fat-free yogurt? I am trying to find one I like. I like Dannon low-fat vanilla, but I don't like the fat-free one and I need a fat free. Thanks for any suggestions.

On Saturday night I attempted to eat a steak, and well it got stuck. All I am doing is taking sips of water, juice, ext, but the nausea has not stopped at all! I'm starting all over again, just like I got my surgery all over again(clear liquids to soft foods, then work my way up),per surgeon orders. Any suggestions on how to stop this feeling?

Hi fellow bandsters! I'm 5 days post-op and I'm dying of hunger! Lol not really, but I'm seeking something more substantial than the broths, shakes, yogurt and milk I've been living on since Monday. I am allowed "strained low-fat cream soups" so I am looking for suggestions! I'm preparing for a trip to the grocery store tonight so what do you recommend? I'm not very familiar with cream Soups so input is appreciated :-)

I have my first appt since my surgery coming up and was wondering if anyone got a fill at their first post op appt ? I have 0 restriction and could eat a horse at this point, I'm starving and feeling pretty discouraged that the band may not work for me. I know it's just an aide for my weight loss but I was at least hoping that I wouldn't feel so hungry.

I received a private message from a member that had seen a post about my band slipping after vomiting only two times. She was concerned about the details of what had happened to me and wanted more information. The following is what I sent to her and I thought it might be helpful to others as well: Please don't worry!!! What you need to know first is there is a huge amount of difference between a PB (productive burp) where you regurgitate food that has not yet passed through the band (which can also include slimming) and actually throwing up. Throwing up is where the contents of your stomach below the band is forcefully expelled. While PB's are not encouraged, neit…

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've visited, so I thought I'd pop in and share something with you. The other day I ate KFC for the first time in about a year. The smell of it actually made me want to be sick and as soon as I put a greasy piece of chicken into my mouth, the taste and fat of the chicken was unbearable. These days I mostly eat salads and lean meat. A few years ago, when I got my first job, all I would eat is McDonalds and KFC chicken. The thought of eating salad or vegetables disgusted me and I never thought I'd be a salad lover. I never thought I'd come this far and I considered I'd be a junk food addict for the rest of my life. The thing that le…

I think this is the hardest thing to get used to. I am post op 3 weeks, still on mushies, but the MA at the office suggested I start getting used to the no drinking 1 hour before or after eating. I have no fill at this time, first one is May 21st. I am getting hungry now, but I believe there is some restriction because I don't want to eat my arm yet...my Dr. told me about post op week 5 I will want to do this.. ha ha... Anyway....my Doctor's restrictions are very conservative. I am following them, but I have a few questions. If you start choking, you have to drink water right? What if something is spicy? I'm not even on solid foods yet, but I am just wondering how…

Hi everyone, So far I've lost 35 pounds since being banded 10/24/12. I am very happy with my results so far. I have not had a fill since 12/28/12. I am going in on Thursday (5/2) to see about getting a fill of .5 cc. I can go 3 hours between meals without eating on an average (some days less, some days more). I would like to know how the journey went for those of you who "tweaked" your way to find that green zone we all long for... Thanks for your imput and support! ~Angela Btw: I have a 10cc band with 4cc at time of surgery, 1cc 12/12, 1cc 12/28 (a total of 6 cc so far)

I've had the band now for roughly a year and a half, and over the past 6 months or so. I notice that if I don't eat for a long time, the first few bites I take, I get stuck. No matter how small of bites, and how much I grind down the food. I don't drink before I eat, so there isn't any liquids present. Has anyone else experienced this?

Been silent for a while so I thought I would share what's up. I've been having unusual symptoms since I started getting fills in January of last year, mainly consisting of pain with the first bite, sip, nibble, whatever. I would be in pain when I put anything into my mouth. Once the pain would subside I was able to eat almost anything without restriction. At first I thought it was normal, or at least looked at it as a penance of sorts for bad eating habits. Surgeon was convinced it was first bite syndrome, so who was I to argue. My weight loss stopped dead, thankfully I didn't gain at all during this period, but because of the plateau, I was told to keep filling. …

Hello! did anyone felt a little bit guilty or concern pre-surgery? I'm so confused right now, not knowing if this is what God wants in my life...it is difficult, because I thought that with diet and exercise was going to loose my weight, but I couldn't. I failed so many times, I prayed about it, cried about it, and now, since I decided to get the lap-band, everything seems to be working towards the surgery. Prayers will be appreciate it!

I am 2 days away from my surgery. I am so excited. I really don't think it has set in yet. This will be the most life changing experience for me. I thought the pre op diet was going to be harder than it was. My hubby would be home pizza and things like that but it didn't bother me at all. I got to see pics that really showed how good my results were.

I'm curious If anyone can tell me, Did you have to go on a Pre-op Diet before having your band removed?...Yes, I know if it was an emergency that wasn't possible, but If for other reasons you've had it removed did you need to have to go on a diet?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone is able to supply me with a weekly meal plan that has really helped them loose weight? I understand that everyone is different, and it's a slow process, but my 21st birthday is coming up in about 2 months and I'm eager to loose as much as I can before then! My specific process has been delayed quite a bit due to having to have my gallbladder out (I only had my first fill two weeks ago, 6 months after I was banded!) So if anyone can help me out i'd be much obliged Thanks so much!

I'm going to have to get the kink in my tubing fixed afterall. I went in for my second fill today and they could get the fill IN...just not out. I had the same problem during my first fill and they put me under flouroscopy and saw where it looked like the tubing was kinked. Today the doc said he wants to fix it. Maybe as early as this Thursday! I will let you know how it goes. I asked the doc if it was something I did to myself or didn't do...and he said NO...that sometimes your body heals and the tubing just moves. Received 1cc in the band today.

It has officially been six months since my surgery And I have yet to Feel restriction I thought it was because they were only giving me .1 mL every time I went in But on this last bill I talked her into giving me a half a cc She looked astonished and said it would not take it all Which is weird because I only should have 4 mL in my 10 Cc band. So she decided to check to see how much fluid was in there and she could not get anything out. Acted like that was normal and sent me on my way. That does not seem normal to me especially since I am not feeling any restriction . Has anyone ever came across this problem?

Banded 3/25/13 and I've noticed this past week that by 3 pm I'm exhausted. I'm literally ready to fall asleep at my desk. Im walking 1-3 miles a day, drink alot of Water, am getting my Protein, and taking my Vitamin and Calcium. I know I'm getting enough calories because I haven't had my first fill yet and other than some constipation I'm doing great...except for the fatigue. Has anyone else had this or have any suggestions on how to get past it? Thanks for you're advice!

I have to go to Ruby Tuesday for dinner tonight with my inlaws. Today is my first day on solid food and I don't know what I should order. I have 3.5cc in my band. I want to stay high Protein low carb so I was thinking Petite Sirloin with grilled zucchini but I'm scared to eat steak. My plan would be to ask for a box with my meal and just eat my 1/2 cup portion then take the rest home....but how much steak and zucchini can you fit in half a cup? LOL I would much rather stay home where I know I'm safe but I gotta figure this out sooner or later. Any input??

I had some blood work done and my protein came back pretty low, I truly despise the taste of all whey and soy protein powders. Pretty sure it stems back to forcing myself to drink them for so many years. My doctor told me to drink two protein drinks a day in addition to my normal meals. I am looking for something that I can add to my meals I prepare everyday. I saw a product on line it was called Any Whey by optimum nutrition. This is suppose to be totally tasteless and can be added to anything however was like 40 some dollars for the container which I do not mind paying if I would use it. I have tried everyway there is to prepare a protein drink/shake and they make …

Over the years I have had 3 tipped ports. Go in, have em fixed...it hurts, but back to normal! I have been working a lot, and my port has been tipped for a while. But this time rubbing against my clothes. I have lost almost all my weight, and don't have any more padding. My port reallllly sticks out! I called my doc only to learn he had retired. In the meantime ( I am a flight attendant ) in shanghai, I ended up in he hospital after my port started spewing goo all the way down my leg. Long storey short..a week later, I finally get into a bariatric surgeon today. He tells me I need my port taken off, wait 4 to 6 weeks, on antibiotics, and hope to save my band. The…

I'm 5 weeks post op today and my first feel is tomorrow. I'm not nervous about the procedure just about the swelling afterward. I leave to travel out of town tomorrow evening and I've not traveled with the band much less after a fill. I'm being proactive and planning my liquid days. Sunday will be tough though. It'll be soft/mushie day and I'll be at my MILs house for lunch. It's a big deal for her and I've got to figure out how to get through that meal since she doesn't know (not the best secret keeper) and I really don't need judgement right now. I love my MIL but just can't justify this to her since its my personal choice. Anyway hubby will be there to deflect and d…

And a restricted diet of 1200 calories. Any suggestion to keep full between meals. I am using a strict calorie counter to achieve this.

I have kind of a very personal question. Have any other bandsters found that after sex, with all of the cruched up contorted positions, that you have pain around your port the next day? The rest of my abdomen feels fine, but it really hurts right around my port. It makes me wince anytime I have to twist, bend over, get up, or walk around. Should I be worried or is the abdominal muscle just irritated? Has anyone ever experienced this after an intense ab workout or any other activity?
