I had my surgery in may of 2009 by Dr Kuri. I have been reading on this forum that dr kuri uses the wrong kind of band or a band that is old, and this is kind of worrying me. In have had my band for 4 yrs with no problems with fills or anything. Should I still be worried?

Hello, I am a 36 year old female with 97-107 pounds to lose. I have already loss 19lbs. I was banded on 1/10/12, however some of the weightloss was from the preop diet. I work for an entertainment full time and as a mental health therapist part-time. I'm also pursuing a PhD. I have taken a leave of absence from school because of this and my daughter graduates high school this year. As you can see, I'm very busy so I won't require a lot of time, I'm looking for someone that I can bounce ideas off of and just to make sure I'm on the right track.... At least for the first 3-4 months. Basically, until I get my footing. Thank you!!!!

So I started working out on Monday. I feel sore but amazing. I havent worked out since I lost about 100 lbs so its amazing how much more I am able to do. I don't eat a lot of food. Basically three half cup meals which I sometimes do not finish and a nut/seed/fruit (very healthy) snack after dinner. I have come to accept I need to ad a shake and for those who know me know I hate drinking calories. My question is do I drink shake before or after workout? My trainer said to eat something an hour before which sometimes works with my meal time. If not I have a greek yogurt. I can not afford to see a nutritionist so was wondering what kind of ideas you all have and what do you …

My dr office is closed til Monday and I am so confused! I am in the "mushy" phase and I am confused as to how many calories and carbs I am supposed to eat each day. I just reread my post op diet info and it just says to get 30-40 grams of Protein and not to eat more than 1/2 cup of food at a time. But I feel like if I don't get in at least 1000 calories I won't lose weight because that is counterproductive. Anyone have any info?

So the pollen in my area has caused me to have complete laryngitis. Dr recommended hot liquids, I.e. tea/coffee. Right now, all I have is chai tea (not decaffeinated). I know we are supposed to avoid caffeine because it is a diuretic but if I drink extra Water, is it harmful to have 3-4 cups of tea? I can't actually "talk" to anyone so I'd like to hear everyone's opinions. TIA

I am new to this site and thought i would give a little background before sharing my concerns. I had my surgery back in FEB 2009. I had immediate success (50 pounds in 3 months). I currently hover around 300- down to 290 back up to 310. What happened? I had a great surgery and post 4 months, then the wheels fell off. I never considered that band maintenance and my doc was over an hour and a half away. So I used that as an excuse to not go back. I settle with the initial success, then my job moved me to northern Maryland, I really thought I had a good excuse for putting it off. However, i found out there was a doctor in my town who could support me. Problem 2 - $$$$ …

Hi there.....Is anyone in this forum in San Diego?? I really need to see a doc about a fill & was hoping to get a recommendation? Also, I've never gotten a fill anywhere, other than in Mexico so I don't even know if it's covered under my insurance so I'll be calling them to find out. I had pretty much hit my "sweet spot" & haven't had a fill in about 4 years? I'm not even exactly sure if that's what I need or if my band has slipped but I'm not having any obvious bad reactions when I eat or anything, I just all of a sudden started gaining weight out of nowhere & it's really scaring me :/ I've been at my goal weight for quite a while....my original start weigh…

Please read this with an open mind. It might just save your band and damage later on. I've been trying to figure this out, since my Dx was confirmed last week. I kept my band loose, 3.5 cc in 11 cc Realize C band. I ate per my doctor's and nutritionist's directions. I didn't drink with meals, though drinking with meals might be better. I cut my food into 1/4 inch pieces, chewed 15-25 times. In fact, I was doing all this for 3 months prior to surgery. I ate 1/2 to 1 cup food, taking 20-30 min to finish. I stopped eating with the "soft stop" signs. I've come across some information that might explain what happened to me and why. So what's the problem? The probl…

Hey everyone, I have had the Lap Band for over 6 months. The problem is that I do throw up a lot. The bad part even more so is I can eat way too much. I really can't eat anything but taco's or chili. But I can eat like a bowl of chips and 2 tacos. I don't know if I stretched my pouch out or not. When I try to eat other things and sometimes the stuff I do eat gets stuck and I throw it up. This is almost everyday. So I am a bit confused because I throw up a lot but can also knock out a plate of food. The reason I eat tacos and chips are because they break up and don't get caught that often... they still do. I believe my fill is at 4? Not sure. Can someone tell m…

So today I had an emotional day of eating because I had "only" lost 6 pds after my fill was done 10 days ago. For some reason I thought I should loose at least 10 pounds within 2 weeks of getting my fill due to the liquid diet we are on at first etc... My 5 pounds were in the first 6 days with around a 4/10ths of pound per day for the remaining 4 days. Because I can't seem to Celebrate the positive and focus on the negative.....I ate a chicken, bean & cheese burrito from Chipotle and I couldn't feel more miserable!!! I felt sp bloated and non-functioning that I just cried because I had been doing pretty good after my fill in 4 years. So being the type A Project…

I completed my first 6 mo of surgery without a fill and did very well losing weight on my own. At this point I feel I can eat too much and it is sheer will power that prevents me from eating. so i think it is time to get a fill and utilize the restriction portion of the tool. I am really nervous for a fill since I have never had one. Any advice on what to expect? Thanks all!!

Hi everyone. My Dr. Has a very strick diet that he expects us to follow' not that I always do. He does not allow any soup, oatmeal, milk or juice in any phase. I assumed that this was the norm but I know when I search for recipes for lap band I do see soups, I am curious as to what other Dr. Are advising. I cannot drink and eat at the same time which was probably one of the most difficult adjustments for me in the beginning. So since the soup is liquid with solid, I have a VERY difficult time with it and I assumed that was why my Dr. Advised against it. This is what my Dr. Recommends for the different phases and when ever you get a fill you have to start with clear liquid…

As I was waiting line at the Drive Up window of my combined KFC/Taco Bell. I noticed their 360 Calorie meal, and thought about trying it. Then I noticed the fine print at the bottom of the sign 1500 mg of sodium. The American heart association recommends a max 1000 mg per 1000 calories, with a maximum of 2000 mg per day. Instead I settled for my usual Fresco Steak Taco and Water. Just a reminder to be aware of what you are really eating.

I went yesterday for my appointment and am down 13lbs from 03/20 surgery day weight, 23% excess weight lost so far to their calculations. I was eating larger portions and hungry every 2-3 hours, so they decided to give me a fill. My previous problems with the hernia repair being a tight one and having problems even taking pills, they took all 4cc out. Now I have 2cc put back in. They told me to drink Protein shakes for the rest of my meals yesterday and nothing about what to do today. lunch today was some grilled chicken out of a McDonald's wrap. The wasn't the best choice I know, but I only ate 4 bites before I felt like something was wrong. I had the right size b…

I've had my band a couple of years, was unfilled a couple of months ago due to reflux, PBing, unable to eat band friendly foods. Lately, I'm PBing up foods I ate more than 8 hours earlier, waking with acid in my mouth, etc. I follow band rules and am satisfied for at least five hours after eating, whether it stays down or not. Right now I'm feeling stuck on two tiny pills (prescription) and can't eat breakfast till they're through. I have an appt next week with my GI doctor to figure out the next step. Any ideas?

If you continue to tell yourself you "just can’t lose weight", you will start to believe it. Once you believe it, you will start to live up to it. You can do it. Giving up is an option for dead people only. Accompanying the "I can't do it" is a raft of very sneaky, tricky and ultimately self-tripping excuses. Here are some common ones: · "I can't lose weight. I'm just too tired.": Your tiredness is sourced in those Cookies, chocolates, fast foods and processed meals. Your tiredness is sourced in being sedentary all the time, from the office to the couch. Your tiredness is sugar-filled. And your tiredness as a result of these things is a bit of a vicious circle––too …

I have finally realized something...I am on my liquid diet btw..yesterday I was talking to my fiancé and I asked him if I could cheat just a little on the diet...and he told me something that I now hear in my head every time I want to cheat.."You have cheated your whole life, its time to buckle down cause things are changing!!" I am 5 months post op an d have just gotten my third fill. The restriction is crazy! I can't eat but a few bites of anything. Not even an entire banana. My question is: is this a normal fill or am I too tight? I have lost 4 pounds in a week since the fill.

So basically I had a small piece of cake and a 1/3 cup of ice cream. Felt unbelievably guilty afterwards... I know it wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done... No bashing please I've been banded since 02/11/13 so not to long but I'm at 5cc's and since about a week after surgery I haven't felt that "full" feeling!? I'm guessing its because I'm chewing so well that it slips right through? No idea kinda nervous but I'm still eating about a cup whether I feel full or not. I guess what I'm saying is that I feel like I could eat more then a cup. Normal? -BriannaXOXO

I just saw this posted in chat. You'll make it - the band is not for the feint of heart but you have to keep it as tight as you can stand it if you don't have will power. No amount of surgery fixed that for me - no willpower. I HAVE to have mine so tight I can only eat a bit. I Warning about taking advice from others. If you are not sure about what someone is telling you or you think it might not be good advice be sure to ask your doctor. It scares me that someone would choose to live their life with their band as tight as they can stand it. That no life at all.

I hope all my November friends are doing well. I finally hit my goal weight in January. I lost 94 pounds total. I never thought I would lose that much. I've gained a couple in the last few weeks. I had to get a partial unfill. My bad was not emptying. No matter how early I would eat I would wake up coughing and sometimes food would come up. I can eat the same as before the band so I am really having to watch it. I have been following WW but this week has been bad. I have been stressed (see next paragraph). My big news is that I will be having a tummy tuck, lower body lift and breast lift next week on 06/14. I am very nervous but also very excited. It is a lo…

Hey all! Just got home from my 2nd fill. I am hoping this is going to give me some more restriction! I have lost 22lbs since surgery and 6lbs since my last fill a month ago. The hardest part is learning my body and trying to figure out when I need fills. The past week or two I could feel i could eat more and had actually gained a pound. I can't wait until I feel the green zone!! I would love to watch these lbs just fall off! lol. Thanks for listening! Ashley

I went for a fill yesterday since I dont have much "restriction" and i told my doctor that since surgery Ive had some issues with acid reflux, which has never been an issue before. well he told me that once i reach the green zone (which will probably require more fill) my acid reflux will be under control. has anyone heard of this before? because i was under the impression that aicd reflux may be a symptom of a too tight band, not one that needs more fill. A little more detail - I have never thrown up with my band, only had 1 stuck episode the day after a fill, and I rarely have any sliming or PB. I have no intolerance to bread, rice, Pasta, etc and I can eat about 1.…

Since getting the band in August of 2012, I have come to the conclusion that chicken's hate me...even in egg form. I have had trouble from the beginning with chicken.. I don't care how slow I eat it, how soft its cooked, what form it's in.. I can't even eat scrambled eggs. It all comes back.. WHATS UP WITH THAT???

I feel incredibly vulnerable posting this. Please don't hate. Binge eating was officially defined in 2010 as an eating disorder. To use a broad paint brush, isn't that how most of us got to be overweight? Binge eating? When our bands are working properly, they help to prevent us from eating too much. What they don't do is make the mental feeling of needing to eat/binge go away. It's been over three years for me since band surgery. I bounce around a weight loss of 40-50 lbs for which I'm grateful. But there are still times when I feel the need to binge. Sometimes I win the battle, sometimes I don't. Please don't lecture me on how dangerous binging is for bander…
