I am 17 days post op and soooo tired all the time. I started back to work Monday and can't make it through the day. I am falling asleep driving home. How long does this last?

  2. Started by Molly3,

Hi all, Can you please tell me what it's like having the sleeve? Does it feel weird or do you feel pretty much like you did before the surgery, except the eating? Do you slime or get stuck like the band? Do you vomit because the food doesn't agree with you or you've eaten way too much? Do you get pains when you eat too much? Are you starving or does the sleeve really curb your appetite? Can you stretch your new stomach? I really would like to know as much as possible, i've been searching this site for a while. I still can't decide if I should do the band or the sleeve!? Any advice or info would be wonderful. Thank you, Molly

I have read/heard that many surgeons will not do WLS if someone's BMI is over 50. I was wondering if anyone have experienced this? As of right now my BMI is around 70, and to get down to 50 I would have to lose almost 100lbs! I was just wondering if anyone else had to lose a great deal of weight before getting WLS due to high BMI

My doctors office was so on top of everything. My surgery is scheduled for the 28th of this month. The doctors office submitted my entire package late Friday afternoon and by 9:00am this morning I received my approval. Liquid diet starts Monday!!

Yep, I'm set for the 22nd and am starting to get excited. Christmas time was tough, family kept trying to talk me out of getting it done. I lost 36lbs pre op so they said if I can do that I can do more. Well, my motivation is getting the surgery. But now that I'm almost there I found myself cheating a little. Yep, I need to have. 2 weeks can't come soon enough!

For the Month of February Im "experimenting"... doing some HEAVY exercising as well as upping my calories ( AND CARBS!) to fuel by body for said exercise... my goal is now going to be 1000 to 1200 a day.... still lower than recommended for the amount of exercise Im to be doing but we shall see how it works... I still have 70 pounds to go to my ultimate goal so some shaking up in in order... Im also saying goodbye to the scale for the entire Month... Im putting it in the trunk of…

32 yr old mom of 2 boys, 9 & 5. I'm 5'5 inches tall and around 240lbs. Unfortunately I've been a yoyo dieter most of my life. I tend to be on either end of the spectrum, either too small or too heavy. Ive got all my pretesting done, just waiting to finish up my 6 months supervised diet. I've got 3 months to go. The further along I get into the process, the faster everything seems to happen. If everything goes as planned, I am looking at being sleeved end of April, early May. Finally, we currently reside in Alaska! Such an awesome place to live!

I am so happy to be able to say that, the last few pounds just seemed to take forever! My package was submitted on January 28th and the board will be meeting on the 5th and 19th so I will be in one of those meetings. I wonder is they call you or sens a letter. I can't wait to say I am approved. I started this in late June 2012 and it seems like it took me forever to get to this point, I am just glad I didn't give up and I keep pushing to get to the point were I am now. Good Luck to everyone and keep everyone posted on your progress.

Hi everyone, I've been researching the band for almost a year and thought that's what I want & need!? I also have read about the sleeve for about 4 months or so & really never gave it serious thought because my insurance does not cover it...I have TriWest. Well TriWest will be UHC as of April & I'm hoping that they will cover the sleeve as well! I have read a lot more complications with the band than the sleeve and so I'm here to learn all I can about the sleeve. Any info or advice would be great. Thank you, Molly

What did you buy to get ready for this? So far I bought a shaker bottle, a personal blender, a sample pack of Protein from Syntrax nectar, a sample pack of Celebration Vitamins and supplements, and a pedometer. I'm probably going to get as many samples as I can, and also start actually testing them out! Another poster said they got "unjury, syntrax, Jello, better than bullion, B12 and liquid vites." Any opinions on liquid vitamins versus Chewables? And any opinions on things like liquid Tylenol? I also tested out muscle milk as a plan b for if I forget to plan ahead and don't have anything to eat with me. (they sell muscle milk at my university's cafe and also …

At my consult my weight was 448lbs. This was a shocker to me but I didn't have a meltdown because I know I'm taking control of my health. I have been very open and honest with friends and family with sharing my weight. First I get the repulsive look and then I get "you don't look that big". I honestly don't know how to respond. So I shrug it off. I'm trying not to think about weight as one lump sum. I want to break it down in obtainable goals. I did read about a man who lost 100lbs in 4 weeks. Has anyone else achieved this quick success. I'm fearful of sagging skin so my plan is to exercise and moisturize compulsively. I'm waiting for my paperwork to be submi…

Hi there, I am Melissa from the Chicago area but originally from NY. I was banded almost 10 years ago and moved away from my hometown to start a new life here in Chicago almost 6 years ago now. When I was first banded, there was not much support and I found some folks online to help. I met with a nutritionist who did not have an office and I had to go to random locations to see her. There were no of ill schedules and I had only 1 or 2 fills total in NY. When I moved I found a surgeon to help and had another 1 or 2 fills and was unfolded just over 3 years ago when I was pregnant. I am now 45 and have basically ignored my band until I started gaining weight and started…

Hi All, I had the band removed and the sleeve done on 12/28/12. I haven't had any complications - in fact recovery was better than the band. I was sleeping on my left side in two days. I could get out of bed without holding on to anything. The bandages (tape) are falling off the incision every couple of days. So when I say I am constipated I'm perplexed. I haven't had a bowel movement in three days (this is day three). I have had Fiber Choice (chewables), and CVS brand Fiber drink - and still nothing. To add to my 'lack of pleasure' when I eat - I am FULL in no time. A small 4oz cottage cheese isn't able to be finished. Today might be my day, my stomach is gurgli…

I had a revision from a lapband to a sleeve with a hiatal hernia repaired in a surgery that lasted over 6 hours. The unusual part is that I did not know I was getting the sleeve but that is another story that I will have to share. I was wondering how sore other people are after 3 weeks. I didn't have much soreness in the first 2 weeks but I find I am much more sore this week. I did go back to work but I'm at a desk most of the day. I find sleeping is more difficult more this week than last.

I started my process back in May. I was absolutely ready to do this thing from June through the end of October.....It's not that I doubt myself on needing the surgery but it's just got me feeling like I need to be doing or buying something to get ready. I'm not having food funerals necessarily. I am having wine once a week instead of once a month because I know for a good while it's just not happening. I am doing things just not binging and I'm working out 4-5 days a week. Now I'm more anxious than anything. Do you feel ready?

Welp....I had my psych eval on Monday. I don't even know what to think. She spoke like I was a good candidate for VSG and that I'm going into it for the right reasons. At one point she asked if I grew up in an abusive home, I said yes. Then she asked who the aggressor was. I said my mom. And that is the only time my mom was mentioned; well other than asking if we have a good relationship now; which we do. At the end of the interview she told me that I needed to 'stop listenening to my mom's voice' and 'stop her voice from telling me I'm not good enough and that I don't deserve to be happy.' Then she said that she was withholding her approval until after my personal…

That being said, I would like to have some sort of ultimate number goal, but don't know what is realistic. I'm 5'9" and currently at 290. I would love to ultimately be at 150. Is this even realistic. Yes yes I know the "It works if you work it" stuff, but I just want to know if I'm shooting too high here. Thanks, all!!!

My 3 year anniversary is on February 12th and I have only lost 32 pounds. Everything was going great for the first 6 months. The weight just fell off all on it's own. But after some time it was as if I had never had the surgery. I mean I still couldn't (and still can't ) eat any significant amount, but since I had surgery in Mexico I had no support group around me that kept my mind in the game. I have been struggling with this since I found out I would not be sleeved until the new year...My Nutritionist said that we should avoid the "Last Supper" mentality but i keep thinking that this is going to be my last holiday season to enjoy the food the way I always have. Conversly, I also feel that I should be preparing for what I call "The New Normal" Our new way of eating is going to be the norm for us and it really does no good for us to have the mentality that we are being deprived. I guest I just have to find a good balance...boy is it ever hard! What are your thoughts??
