Hi, Sorry if I am reposting, but the forum is not very intuitive. Looking for info on a monthly support group in the Bay Area. Prefer South Bay, Mountain View, Palo Alto or Fremont. Thanks!

Came across this article when reading about Ghrelin and how VSG removes the part of the stomach responsible for generating this hormone. I've found that even being only 3 weeks post-op, my craving for things I could never pass up before has completely gone. Thank goodness! It's so much easier for me now that I can look at a piece of cake and feel like "meh, I'll pass". http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-500164_162-543614.html

Hey Ya'll!! I'm having my surgery at Methodist Dallas on July 14th!! My doctor is Dr. Colleen Kennedy, who I LOVE! I start my preop 1 week liquid diet on the 7th and am NOT looking forward to that! I've been practicing though, with 4 Protein Shakes a day, a salad at lunch, and a sensible dinner. I've given up diet coke completely, and stick to tea with splenda, crystal light (cherry pomegranate is my favorite!) and of course TON'S of water!! I'm down 14 pounds!!! Hoping to drop more from the liquid diet, and then of course SLEEVE TIME!!! And even MORE WEIGHT LOSS! I'm completely stoked and ready to DO THIS!!! I'd love to hear how you guys are doing getting ready for yo…

I am almost 6 weeks out and I feel like this was all for nothing. I think I am failing. I am hardly eating anything and yet the scale hasn't changed in 3 weeks. My measurements haven't changed either. I am so tired all the time. I wake up thinking about the next time I can sleep. I am just so sick of following the rules and nothing happening. I know its probably just a stall so I tried upping my calories. It didn't work. I tried going on a runs that made my whole body ache everyday. Nothing changed. I tried getting more water and protein. Still the scale wont budge. Yesterday I drank 4 protein shakes and drank 50oz of water. Because of all the protein shakes I didn't eat…

What are you working on now? Whether you're combating the pre-op jitters, trying to stop other addictive behaviors, or keeping your hands busy, share your projects here. Right now I'm dyeing a TON of yarn for a Kickstarter campaign I started last year. I'm trying to get it all done before my surgery next week, but I don't think I'm going to make it...

  22. (Warning: If you're a pre-op, you probably don't need to read this. I'm pretty sure it's all an effect of dehydration and hormones and won't be the most encouraging thing to take in right now. With that said, if you do read this, please know, I'd still get this surgery again in a heartbeat. It's actually been much easier than I could have ever hoped.) I don't even feel like I have the mental capacity to make this a complete paragraph. This will be a lamentation in list form. 1) I'm hungry and I'm tired of liquids, popsicles, and jell-o. I'm still on my clear liquid phase until my post-op follow-up on Monday. 2) I'm so freaking emotional. I know why I'm emotio…

Hi - I had surgery on 3 September and developed a leak immediately, having emergency surgery two days later. I had a prolonged hospital stay (two months) and am home now, trying to put my life back together. For anyone else who had a leak, can you let me know if you had any further problems? I am so worried about the leak coming back! I've been fine and every week that goes by I get a little less scared but I would love to hear from others who survived a leak and if they had any other issues... Thanks for any help you can give me...

My surgery is Thursday and I just couldn't wait to get a medical id bracelet. I went online to order a stainless steel one since my doctor said it was good to have one for the first 6 months, but not necessary. Well, I like to play it safe and decided to get one to wear for 6 months. Then I read on this site, that someone's spouse got her a platinum bracelet with the date and weight of her surgery as a reminder to help maintain weight loss. I like the idea so much, that I looked for a sterling silver id bracelet to engrave my surgery date and weight on it. I would love to get platinum or gold, but I'll just have to settle for silver. Still I'm excited and have order…

I know that one of my major concerns as a single gal, is how I will be perceived by men after surgery. I have average self esteem but have never had too much attention from men (besides my close friends). I've heard many people talk about on this board about how they get extra attention after they start losing weight. I'm not sure how I will handle that. The idea of it kinda frightens me to be honest. Do any of you share this concern? Have any of you experienced this extra attention? If so, how did you handle it? I would hope I would just take it in stride, but I think something inside of me will be bitter because these people never noticed me before. I hope that when I d…

I am usually the happy go lucky optimistic poster child but seriously, I am ticked off that I am even here!!! There I said it! I hate this band, I hate that it did not work, I hate that I had surgery 10 years ago and was told that it would stay in for life. I hate that I am considering sleeve, I hate that I need surgery, I hate that I have no idea where to go, who to see and who to trust. I hate the uncertainty and I hate that I have to worry if my 3 year old will have a mom and I hate that I did this to myself. There, I feel better and between my tears, I ask if anyone else felt this way too?

I'm so thankful to have found this forum. I got my surgery date last week...March 20! It's getting real. I was going to do bypass but opted for the sleeve after meeting with my surgeon. I'm so excited and just praying that for once in my life, I've found something that works. I am always very motivated and work hard on diets and exercise but when the scale stops moving at -20lbs (as it always has), I give up. Looking forward to a life change.

  35. Is there any data out there that shows how much the new stomach will stretch over time? I am almost worried as many of the healthy, low calorie foods are also "bulk foods" that are very filling, i don't know if eating them will end up re-stretching the sleeve to where it takes a large amount of food to get full. I am able to consume a lot of soft foods or liquids, much more than i thought i would be able to at this point, which is making my calorie intake a lot higher than i'd like it.

When I go in on the 21st again I will talk with my Dr. She did my band and seems to think sleeve would be a good option. I do not want rny but is that the only way to lose that much?! :/

I even have an appointment on the 28th to weigh in at the office. I started at 424 I am now 369 and my scales (I have two) have started to give me different readings. Meaning I will weigh myself with the green scale three times and each time it gives me a different readings. Then I'll weigh myself with the white scale. Same thing. Three different readings. I know the two scales never read the same. But I would think the same scale would give the same reading. Maybe I need to chill and relax. Sent from my KFOT usin…

  44. I've been using a CPAP for about 15 years, and I was wondering how people have dealt with sleep apnea and CPAP's as weight loss occurs. Did you just decrease the pressure? Go for a new sleep study? Did the apnea go away? I have never breathed particularly well, so I may always have issues, even after I lose weight.

  48. ...Mexican Food! (But not my hot dish of a latino partner of 9 yrs) It's true. Thought it was time to take the true test and take my beloved out for a belated VD dinner. This was going to be a make or break moment for me. For Mexican food was my passionate lover for many years. Sat down, ate 5 tortilla chips. In my pre-op days, that would have been 2 baskets (at least). Ordered a chicken enchilada expecting explosions of warm waves to course through my body...not so much... It tasted a little like dish soap to me. The love affair is over and I've moved on! Thanks for listening

I just joined this group! Since July 2012 I have been taking all the steps in order to get a lapband. After asking my doctor's office if I can change from a band to a sleeve and being told that it would have to be ABSOLUTELY medically necessary I decided to get a sleeve. It was a huge deal deciding on the band and even a bigger one deciding on the sleeve. Hoping to get a date for May. Any people in the same situation I am. I feel like joining this group is making it official. lol I always look at boards, However, I never actually pictured myself writing on one.
