Hello all- I had a lap-band for 3 years and was fairly successful with it. I lost about 68lbs of the 100 that I wanted to lose but always had issues with it. I was happy that it kept the weight off but I found myself always be throwing up. Right before Christmas I got horrible reflux and was having a hard time keeping things down. I went to my surgeon who immediately unfilled me some. As I was about to leave his office the pain became almost unbearable and he sent me to the hospital for an immediate Upper GI. As it turned out, my band had slipped. He then took the rest of the fluid out of my band at the hospital and scheduled me for an upper endoscope on Monday (Chris…

Hi, I am almost done with all the approvals I was required to do for the surgery. I did the pulmonary function test yesterday, have my c-pap machine now, have cardiac approval, had blood work done this morning, have finished two of the required nutritional classes. Medicare requires 1 class per month for 3 months, psyc eval done, next Wed, going for gp letter of necessity. My last class is March 1, pre op class March 4 and then hopefully I will get a date set. Anymore waiting and jumping through the hoops?

I'm actually excited about it and a little nervous. But I'm not thinking negative. I'm a strong believer in thinking and being positive! However I'm still a little nervous because it is major surgery. But this time next Monday night i'll be resting in the hospital from having my sleeve done earlier that day. Anyone else getting sleeved on the 4th?

I thought this was another great article on how on one hand, we're being scolded and treated as outcasts for being fat, and at the same time, food companies are engineering foods that are designed to create cravings and make us fatter. I am all for taking personal responsibility, but at some point you have to realize they are targeting us and creating products that overwhelm our natural stopping point when eating and creating a craving for unhealthy foods. The only way to strike back at these companies is to quit buying their products! According to Michael Moss, the Pulitzer prizing-winning reporter and author of the new book Soups, tomato sauces and hundreds of othe…

I want to thank everyone on this site that have been so supportive and have provided me with hours of entertainment when it was really important for me to connect with people who knew exactly what I was going through. I want to thank those who have enough confidence to reach out to me for advice and are genuinely appreciative of what I have to say. I want to thank my employer for being so supportive and providing me the financial means to actually be able to afford this surgery and take a genuine interest in my well-being. I want to thank my skilled surgeon for taking such good care of me and has always made sure I never felt like I was left on my own to figure thin…

Tomorrow is my 1st appointment with my surgeon. I am soooo nervous, scared you name it that's the feelings I have. Found out from my PHI that they cover the procedure 100% have to pay the gap fee that would be between $3500 - $4200. I am worried that somehow he will not do the procedure. Is this normal??

I just noticed on another post that a sleever had a recent MRI and had some pain/burning from it? Then there was some discussion about getting MRIs after being sleeved. I never actually thought about it before but would the staples be problematic for future tests such as MRI? Are you not supposed to get MRIs after having the sleeve? What about X-rays or CT scans? I am only concerned b/c I know when my husband had cancer, getting MRIs, x-rays and CT scans were frequent and they likely affected the outcome of his treatment b/c they provided vital information about his tumours, etc... I don't know if I could give up the benefit of being able to have an MRI down the r…

Well, i'm out 3 + years, have been doing well and maintaining great. . however, (yes always a however) I've been drinking coffee, alcohol, and taking ibuprofen a lot. I work in a very high stressed job and even though i know i should probably quit before it sends me to my grave, i continue to do my "prison sentence" (yes, I realize it's all self inflicted). . .now in the past 1 month, I've notice daily nausea to the point of nearly vomiting, a horrible burning pain when i eat or drink anything except water. . . i have told my doctor and she has given me some meds, but they aren't helping at all. . . i have to call her tomorrow to let her know how things are going. . . we…

I was sleeved December 6 2012..... I'm down 52 pounds and feel reborn. I'm going to the gym 3-4 days a week for cardio such as treadmill, bike and elliptical.... A little weight lifting but not much. I'm eating between 900-1100 calories a day. I do for the most part choose my food wisely and weigh everything on a scale..... Anywhere from 3 ounces of chicken with 2 ounces of green Beans and 2 ounces of mushrooms etc. Sometimes I think I should go back on liquids because my weight loss has slowed down significantly and I fear stretching my stomach and getting bad habits back. I have a great deal of respect for my surgeon Dr Mitchell Roslin; he told me last week; "you contr…

I just wanted to share some of the phrases that inspire/motivate me. Some are lyrics, some are from movies and some I have no idea where they came from. What are some of yours??? "just keep swimming. just keep swimming." - Nemo movie "Ain't no one gonna break my stride, Ain't no one gonna pull me down. Oh no I got to keep on moving...stay alive." - Matisyahu "The stone that the builder refused will always be the head corner stone." - Bob Marley "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." - Eleanor Roosevelt "Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." - Jim Rohn " and god help you if you are an ugly girl …

The day I've been waiting for, I finally broke the 200 lb mark this morning. I'm so thrilled. I've lost a little slower than some but as long as that scale keeps going the right direction, I'm ok with it. Loving my sleeve today! I started my preop diet on oct 19. Lost 40lbs pre surg. Sleeved 1/9. Today I'm down 69lbs total.

I live in Grand Prairie and I've been seeing Dr. Kim for a band to sleeve revision. He does surgery at both hospitals so I would love to hear feedback on your experiences. Both hospitals are a drive for me so its not a matter of which is most convenient, although I work just down 75 from FP so I know my way around that area better. I had my EGD at FP today and every nurse and doctor I saw was so exceptionally friendly and made me feel so comfortable. I had been thinking I would go to Baylor for surgery but now I'm not so sure..lol!!

Hi there, I went in for a second opinion this past week and the doctor said if I experienced reflux with the band then I will experience reflux with the sleeve. She said that most patients with the sleeve have reflux and will be on medication possibly for the rest of their lives. I'm starting to lean towards the bypass with that information. So my question is, do you have reflux? And if so, is it as bad as when you had the band? Can you sleep at night or it is minor? Any help would be great, thanks!

I am a woman of science and a seeker of the truth, and since I have no hope of ever becoming a bikini model, I decided to do a top secret experiment on myself with some scar treatment business to see if it would do anything good, or anything at all and I have interesting results to report. Here is how this all started, I have had acne my whole life, thanks to PCOS, so I do weekly facials and whatnot - and I use products to improve the texture of my skin. I stumbled across a product I have seen FOR YEARS but never purchased because I didn't like the idea of putting oil on my face. Little did I know, I was missing out. The product is called Bio-Oil and just for the rec…

Ok! SO! I am in Arizona, finally, & I think we should get this little "support group" we discussed together as there aren't really any in the Avondale/Goodyear area. We had discussed friendship park before, I believe, I'm not sure how busy that would be but there is also a park in my community & one in JSP's also I am sure, that may work better just due to the amount of others around. Input there? Second thing when. I'm a stay at home mom so my schedule tends to be a little more flexible than others (though sometimes it means I am dragging along two children) I think we should aim for next month. Would every prefer a weekend or a week day? What time of day works…

I did my measurements today since its unlikely I will lose inches by tomorrow..... I "only" lost 9 pounds this month....disappointing but expected because of the 24 potential workouts, I only did 10....the only cardio I got was swimming, the rest StrongLifts.....thats horrible considering Im supposed to be training for a triathlon... I started night shift the 1st of February and I just cannot adjust...my workouts ( and eating) have suffered.... I have one more month of this shift and I MUST do better... Despite, I lost some inches... minus 2 on both hips and waist...down another 1 at bust ( down to 34 B, I cant afford to lose anymore but I seem to lose here first)...…

...definitely not what I expected! For some reason I envisioned the psych evaluation to be me sitting in a quiet room with a therapist talking about WLS, my history, etc... however it was not like that at all. This morning I met with a woman (in a normal looking doctor's office), who for an hour asked me random question after question. Most questions did not relate to WLS, but I knew that they were trying to get an idea of who I am, my personality, etc... She also had me do some memory tests, as well as identifying items on a sheet of paper, counting backwards in increments of 7, etc... it was all very odd and at times I felt like I was taking a test. Once that was ov…

An outsider would look at most of us and assume we are all over-eaters. Although many of us fall into that category, I thought a little self reflection could help us correct some of the things we all do collectively that made the "sleeve" procedure our best option. Speaking strictly for myself, this is how it happened to me: 1. I am a computer technician. I sit behind a keyboard eight hours a day. At night, I am a student. The only physical exercise I get is lifting my coffee cup, or walking to the kitchen to make a sandwich. 2. I have Asthma, so working out is out of the question. I bought bicycles for my wife and I to get a little exercise, but it's hard to pedal fo…
