Hi all, I saw this piece on yahoo! today and thought it was very interesting. Apparently sleeping on your left side helps reduce or eliminate nighttime acid reflux (as a right-side sleeper I guess I was never doing myself any favors!). Plus there's lots of other cool tips, like how to stop crying an an inopportune time, how to quickly get rid of brain freeze (I've had that a time or two sipping on Protein shakes made with ice), how to quickly stop hiccups, and a technique to reduce stress. If you try any of these and they work (or don't work) please let us know! http://health.yahoo.net/articles/healthcare/photos/human-bodys-talents

Well, I never had a stall, until now. I've been teetering between 199 and 201 pounds for 2 weeks now! I was so excited to go under 200 for the first time in 19 years, only to see the scale go back up past 200 again! I added more protein powder to my diet and have been drinking my water. I walked a lot this week and shoveled snow! Why, for the love of God, why? The only difference in my diet is I bought the wrong calcium supplements so I haven't had calcium citrate in about 3 weeks-could that affect loss? I'm eating 600-650 cals. a day. Could the no loss be muscle weight? I'm hoping, praying, and staying tight on plan today and we'll see what this week brings. I won't weig…

I am about 9 months out and have been stalled for a while but thats not the deal here. I have been having severe pain for months after eating and everytime i ask the PA says its GERD. I had GERD prior to the surery and this is not GERD pain. Twice I was ready to ask Dave to take me to the ER it was so intense. I can only eat 5 very small bites before it begins. Anyway I finally got to talk to the surgeon and he ordered a scope which the gastro is going to do but first he wanted an upper GI. Well got the results today and it appears since the surgery I have developed a Hiatal Hernia and of course the GERD is much worse now. Question is does this hernia happen to a lot of …

I go in for a seminar on Feb 11 and will hear back from a counselor to set up an appt after that to meet with the dr. I have a friend I work with that had lap band done a few years ago and he said he had to meet with a nutrition and exercise specialist for like 3 months before he got approval. But I saw on here someone else with aetna got approval in like 3 days! Does it not work the same with every plan? I'm anxious to see what the dr says and how long it takes to get approval. If you have aetna, what has your experience been like?

I'm 7 1/2 months post-op from my sleeve and 6 days post-op from having my gallbladder removed. I had the same surgeon for both. I did not have a pre-op appointment and there has been no mention of a follow-up. Basically I was there for 6 hours, saw the doctor for 30 seconds and they kicked me out while I was still only half-conscious. lol Needless to say, I didn't get much post-op instruction. The paper I have just says no lifting or submerging my incisions for 2 weeks. I'm wondering what kind of restrictions did you have for a post-sleeve gallbladder surgery? Specifically I'm wondering about working out and alcohol. Also, I know it is not as major of a surgery as VSG b…

I was all set and scheduled for my sleeve on 2.20?.2012. I decided to have a colonoscopy before my sleeve procedure and found out that I have fairly large tumor mass that needs to be removed so no sleeve for now. I was more concerned with getting the sleeve than the possibility of having colon cancer but have now realized that first things first. Does anyone know how long I need to wait before I can get my sleeve? I will be meeting with the surgeon on 2.18 with a surgery date on 3.4. I was so disappointed, all the preparation for an entire year and now this.

I am really excited about my March 4th surgery date! My surgery is going to be done by Dr. Michael King at Baptist Memorial Hospital North in Oxford, MS. Even though i still have to come with up with close to $1200 before the surgery, I'm remaining positive. My insurance is Aetna 80/20. Now I am a little nervous about starting my clear liquid diet on Monday the 18th. I've been reading so many posts about how people are having a hard time dealing with not being able to eat solid foods. I'm afraid I might cave in and eat some solid foods during my 14-days pre-op. But at the same time I don't want any complications on the operating table, like the doc going in my stomach …

I am 9 weeks out this week and down 59 pounds down and I have been doing great and am happy with my results this far. I have heard others complain about hormones and feeling crazy and I thought...hmmm glad that's not me. Well, I don't know if it's the pain I have been having this week, my stress levels being a little high or what but I am officially feeling crazy this week! I have had multiple time outs from my toddler today....slammed doors because I was angry with my hubby (I was right but still! lol), I just feel a little (alot) off my rocker today and think I needed to vent here because no one else will get it. I hope this resolves quickly because I hate feeling cra…

For the last week after surgery I have been battling with severe pain in my right arm from the IV spot to my elbow. I wonder if it is infected will be asking my doctor. He is 3half hours from me. I hate to complain but the pain is worse than the surgery! I hate it. I have used warm and cold compress off and on for a few days.

I know this comes up a lot, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I'm planning to start the boot camp tomorrow to kick my carb cravings. She says you can have all Protein (meat, fish, nuts, dairy, etc), lots of Water, green veggies, no fruit... Do you think that includes nonfat Greek yogurt that's fruit-flavored? It doesn't specify a carb max, which is why I ask. The yogurt I have has about 20 g carb. Anyone done this the whole 5 days successfully?

This week I've done several of the pre-op requirements, including the ultrasound, CT scan, support group, nutrition and exercise class, and the psych eval. I think I may have hit the support group on an off night; it wasn't very helpful for me at all. I told the evaluator that I'd found a really active online forum for this procedure, and that I've learned more lurking for an hour here than in any of the classes and groups combined so far. He was very enthusiastic about it and wanted me to keep up with this site. So thanks, all. Everyone has been extremely helpful and I really appreciate being able to read about so many different experiences!

I was revised on 1/28 and from pre-op to now down 20 lbs. However, i have not lost anything in a week and even gained 2 pounds and now down 1....I am under 500 cal's a day. I have only been able to get in about 30 grms a protein a day (sometimes) and about 25-40 oz's of water. Does coffee and shakes count for the water? Anyone???

I am not even sure if I will be eligible fir a sleeve as my BMI is 36. I have a history of failed lap bands x2 for 12 years. I am waiting for my first doc apt and subsequently am not worrying about what I eat so much. My partner is slim and exercises cos she loves to. Tonight she stated she felt angry with me for not trying - she totally understands my 35 yr history of dieting up and down - but still says I shouldn't risk major surgery as she us scared I might die. Am I being unreasonable wanting a sleeve? I have NEVER been able to maintain my weight in a healthy range and I just don't have it in me to diet again Feeling sad and selfish and scared

I had my surgery a month ago and now it is his turn. Been at the hospital since 6am, they took him back a little after 7:30am and now I wait and wait and wait! I am worried though because he almost died getting the endoscopy...in fact they could not do it. They gave him meds to knock him out, he was still wide awake and they kept pumping him with meds until he completely stopped breathing, his Oxygen level fell and his heart rate plummeted. They had to bag him to bring him back, monitored him and do like 3 EKGs and then he was fine. So they are doing the endoscopy under general prior to his sleeve surgery. I know they will be doing the breathing for him so it is…

I am 6 days out from my surgery and this morning I over did it!! I was drinking a protein shake. I mixed some chocolate protein powder with some PB2 with almond milk and ice. Well yesterday I had a plane chocolate (pre made) and drank a small bathroom cup full and was fine so today I did the same. HUGE mistake I started burping then I vomited then in PAIN. All I could do is lay down. it hurt so bad. I will try not to do that again....

I was getting really distraught about not being able to stomach the clear liquid proteins that I'm bound to for two weeks post-op. (No offense to the following companies, as everyone's taste buds are different.) I tried the Unjury chicken flavor and am still having nightmares about it. Not only that, but one serving has permanently scented one of my shaker cups. I was drinking the Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel flavor and was barely able to swallow it. At the hospital, they brought Nectar Strawberry Kiwi, and it smelled so incredibly foul to me, and tasted only slightly better than how it smelled. To try to get some of it down, I poured in some of the sugar-free fruit p…

Don't know where to really share this, so I figured I'd share it in the forum of "my people"... I have a very stressful job and have to spend the work week away from home. Many many night pre-op, after a stressful day, I couldn't get to a mexican food place or Taco Bell fast enough. My typical order would be a 2 lb carne asada burrito with EVERYTHING and chips. At Taco Bell, it would be their new XXL Steak nachos, and of course since I would starve on the 5 minute drive home, I'd always have to get an extra burrito or taco to get me started. I was like a drug addict or alcoholic who couldn't wait to get home so I had to start "using" in the car! Fast forward a few mon…

I'm in need of a reply when a friend says to me: "It wasn't God's intention for us to remove 80% of our stomachs. It's too drastic. It's not natural. Diet & exercise - AND STICKING WITH IT - are what you need to do. I've always said that." My reply was: "Breast implants weren't God's intent, but you got those." Her reply: "But they can be removed. You're taking out 80% of your stomach & you can't put it back." Any KINDLY WORDED suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as she is, after all, my BFF, so I am not looking to disregard her feelings. ** NOTE: After several responses, I have edited this post to also say: Everyone's opinion is valid; however, …

Well had my op last Tues 5/2 in Perth. Discharged Sat. for the first few days I thought OMG what the hell have I done but I just kept focussing on all the wonderful success stories here. I am feeling pretty good down 4 kilos to 105 k but can't help jumping on the scales every time I pass the bathroom, ha think I had better put them away. Assume this is normal but I am exhausted but the drinking is good at first I was sipping but just seem to drink normally & even though I am on the liquid & mush I can eat if fairly quickly, 5 mins for half a cup of Soup or a yoghurt. is this normal Today I made a jelly & once cooled mixed in a yogurt into then set it, v…

It's all set and I start me pre-op diet next tues. Im going with Dr. Quionens. Im VERY excite, but nervous too. I started out in the group under 200, but at this point Im about 205, should drop a little the next 3 weeks. SO glad I have made this decision.

Well, I was really hoping to find more recipes in this group. . I may not have a true recipe, but I found something to make protein shakes a little more palatable. I'm only on my third day of the pre-op diet. The first day I thought "these protein shakes are actually pretty good". The next day I thought "well, at least they're not THAT bad". Then today I'm thinking "how in the world am I ever going to live off these things?"????? Then I had an idea. I put some peppermint extract in my chocolate shake. To my surprise it made it so much better! Tomorrow I'm going to try banana in vanilla, and others. I'll let you know how it goes!

My surgery is in 6 days (10/31), so last night I began writing a "Letter to Me" as suggested by my doctor. (Obviously, the purpose is to record the reasons you decided on WLS in case you later have second thoughts or need a bit of motivation to stay on track.) Writing this letter led me to think about my fears and what I kept returning to was my fear of gaining the weight back. I'm not afraid of the surgery, the pain, or even the drastic changes required in lifestyle and eating choices. I'm not even afraid of not losing weight. I know I'll be successful because I've done it so many times before. What I'm afraid of (we're talking "heart beating out of your chest typ…

I didn't think I would feel this way but I do. I'm wanting to back out! Part of me wants to keep hoping this band will magically do what it's suppose to do. I'm also self pay and freaked put about all the money I will spend . AND I'm self employed and have a strenuous job. Anyone else had a physical job and how long did you stay off of work. I frankly can't just enjoy not working...no work no pay bills. Any words of encougment would help right now. My surgery date is feb 28th!!

Hi Everyone, I was given a prescription for paxil today for my anxiety and when I got home I read the side effects and one of the main side effect was weight gain. I couldn't find a thread with this on it here so I'm curious is anyone on it after surgery and notice weight gain from it??? I'm considering not even taking it after reading that.
