Going to have surgery March 29 with Dr.Garcia. Bought tickets last night and am flying in the day of surgery. I'm anxious but know this is what I have to do. I have 4 little boys, 1,2,5&7 and at 50 years old (yes, 50!) I'm having trouble keeping up with them. But mostly I want to be health to see my grandchildren someday. Right now I can barely walk from joint pain. Sigh. But I really feel hope. I'm really starting to mourn the loss of my relationship with food. I know it sounds melodramatic, but do you know what I mean?and although I have a partner who supports me getting the surgery I don't think there's going to be much help once I get home. Tijuana with Dr. Fernando Garcia. I'm excited and terrified. I've seen lots of people prepped way ahead of time for this surgery. I just scheduled the other day and it seems eons away, but it's just five short weeks away!

I am looking for support and people to talk to! Not many know about my surgery and hardly any support groups around my area. I have so many questions, and just want to fully educate myself! I am waiting approval! I have approx 100lb to lose. I am sooo nervous, but very excited. I just want to live a happy healthy life!!

I am freaking out a little and looking for advice. I get sleeved in less than 2 weeks and just don't know how I am going to deal with telling people. I have been so heavy all my life people are going to take notice. I told my close family/friends but am not sure what to tell the others. I am also looking for people my age to talk with and just share what is normal, what we are eating, etc. if anyone wants a pen pal let me know! I am 34, married and ready to start the next chapter of my life. One of the reasons I am doing this is to get pregnant in 2 years or so since right now I am unable to. Just wanted to inform everyone that Medicare does pay for the sleeve. Had surgery 5 weeks ago and just got the hospital bill &medicare did pay for real. I know there has been a lot of questions whether they would pay or not. Hope this helps ones that are on the fence.

I just finished my morning protein drink. It's the premier protein drink from costco and it's 11 oz. So I spent approximately one hour walking around the house and taking sips of the protein shake. Now that I'm finished, I've walked 5342 steps. My pedometer says I've burned 245 calories. The protein shake is 160 calories. So I know I've lost some weight there. While I'm home the next 4.5 weeks, I think I will keep up this routine for breakfast

I'm getting sleeved on Nov 15 at Hackensack University Medical Center with Dr. Ewing. If anyone is getting surgery around then or has some experiences to share with me I'd love a buddy to support and receive support back through this journey.

I am pre-op with a surgery date Easter week. I have only told a few people about this but it amazes me how many people have opinions about MY weight and knowing that I am going to lose it makes them more honest about it. I am overweight at 5'5 and 250 pounds, but I never realized the negativity extent about it until now. I guess I am bracing for the compliments that I will be receiving post surgery because it shows how I was looked at with the weight on. I will always be that girl that had the weight problem...and I want to protect her. Does that make sense? Maybe not!

I am in my hospital bed in pain but really happy that as of this morning my band is gone and my sleeve is completed. I am strangely very happy and emotional knowing that I have the reigns I've been looking for but never found with that damn band. I was very scared going into this. In fact I thought about leaving. But I knew this was going to be a very good thing for me. Anyone wondering about it please just ask. I had my band on for 6 years and my conversion happened in one surgery. Dr Juarez at St Luke's in Phoenix has been great.

Hello, Welcome! Baby Boomers are are special, don't you think? We grew up at the best time when creativity was at its height. When incredibly talented artists introduced the world to a new musical genre. When moms stayed at home, baking Cookies for us. A time when we didn't have a lot of "things" but had so much fun playing with what we had. And there's more ... so much more. And now we older and fatter, in fact bulging at the seams. Thank heavens, medical technology has kept up with our needs. So, surgery is set for Tuesday. Getting cold feet...just a little. Not planning on chickening out or anything, but I have to ask this. So I've been on a liquid diet for 10 days or so. Down 16lbs. Hasn't been that difficult. I lost 110lbs. 5 years ago by dieting. (Then I gained back 124lbs.) I KNOW how to lose weight. Unfortunately, I can't keep it off. Gaining it back is far easier. Do I try once more to lose it on my own? I know I can do it. But, how will I keep it off? Probably a dumb question. I'm sure cold feet is common

I was sleeved on 6/25/12 and lost about 50 pounds. (247-197)....in the past 2 to 3 months, I have seriously backslid to the point where I'm now about 215 and I find that i'm eating nearly the portions I ate before my surgery. It seems everything is going down the tubes here and I'm not sure what to do. Motivation is near zero and total failure seems right around the corner! Has anyone experienced this? If so, how can this trend be reversed? Help please!!!!!

I was sleeved 12/13 . I live in austin sleeved in Houston by Dr. Garth Davis. We are all in different stages I am on mushy foods. Sure would like to know what you all are eating to get in your protein. Please share ideas!

No, not really! Hubby has been making this really yummy looking homemade white bread since Christmas, and I haven't had any. I took my kid to a bounce play area and when I came home the house was filled with the smell. I had stopped at Wendy's and got a kid's meal for my son and a small chili for me. I had a slice of the bread with some butter...OMG. Rock. in. my. sleeve. I have been able to tolerate everything until this. Glad I got that out of my system. I couldn't even eat any chili after that...ugh!!!! -Kendra

i got banded in aug of 2005. starting weight was 334.4. things went well for a while but now i cant eat and constantly vomiting. i lost over 100 lbs only to slowly gain some back. now sitting at 260. PCP wants me to have band removed and go with sleeve. never really thought of it. i have a pouch above my band and lapband doc doesnt do anything about it. so i made an appt to see a new doc in march. i am nervous. i have MVP healthcare and they are usually pretty good. guess we will wait and see

Seems like since surgery I have more gas than EVER before! I burp throughout the day, sometimes worse than other times. I find that it worsens after eating. Anyone else finding this to be an issue? Any recommendations? I've tried gas-ex quick strips, but do not see any changes.

OK my fellow slow losers, confession time! What tricks do you do to get the scale to show a number you like? Here's some of mine: 1. Use Saturdays as my official weigh in day, because I get to sleep in and always seem to weigh less on days I sleep in. 2. Move the scale around the floor multiple times to find the spot that gives me a low number (and memorize that spot!). 3. If I have a specific goal for a specific date, the day before my final weigh in I'll drink extra fluids and hope to flush out a few more oz. 4. Record my weight on my ticker when it goes down, but not up (my weight fluctuates a few oz to a lb or more depending on hormones and such). What…

I have a dillema which Dr do I choose? I have a surgery date with Dr Almanza but have read a lot of bad things on here. My wife had a good experience with them. I have read a lot of good things about Dr Garcia and could go there on the same date. Dr Garcia only schedules 4 or so a day. We called the Jereusalem Clinic yesterday and they couln't tell us how many they have scheduled for that day. So my question is if it were you which would you go to.

I've posted in here several times about the equilibrium (vertigo like) issues I share with a VSG patient friend. Long story short, I called one of my doctors numbers to get a coordinator who said she experience the same thing and it turned out to be a stomach ulcer! No pain, no abnormal gas, just dizziness a day or 2 after having alcohol. I am wondering how common stomach ulcers are after VSG, what your experiences were like, and how common they are for us? I imagine a lack of pain could certainly be due to a lack of nerve endings- we now have scar tissues where our stomachs were cut! But the dizziness is an odd thing to experience all on it's own.

Omg!! I've always been a big girl... I don't honestly remember truly being upset by my looks since middle school early high school years... I seem to have woke up one more with a skinny me in my head and she never left! I'm my world I'm one skinny b..... But with the current weightloss I'm feeling more self conscience than ever! i found out a couple weeks ago i have a pretty bad slip with the lapband and i go see the surgeon on monday to see my options. im only about 30 pounds away from my goal weight im 164 im down about 128lbs. How does everyone feel about the switch do you wish you didn't? whats the difference between the two? i dont really know much about the sleeve. Is it kinda like bypass? im scared if i switch that i could stretch the pouch. and with the band i know it will stop me from eating thoughts?

Mentally I was prepared for this surgery and was not nervous at all. I was wheeled back to the operating room at 12:30 and my husband said I was in my private room by 2. It's nice that it is only private rooms. Anyway, my first thought I had when I woke up wad "What did I do to myself? I am not going to have any plastic surgery." I was in some pain. the lower right side of my stomach's incision was the one that gave me pain. By 8pm, I had to go to the bathroom and took a short walk out to the nurses station. Hello, my thyroid levels are not normal will this slow down my surgery?

I saw the surgeon for my initial visit 2 days ago and it went really well. Actually it looks like I can get insurance approval rather easily and possibly have surgery as early as first of April. Here is the problem... I just got confirmation today of a new job starting in mid March which will require several meetings and training, possibly out of state for a few days. Now I am thinking I should put this off until summer as because I also have a big vacation planned and paid for for mid May. At first I was like...great! So have no choice but to travel since I really wanted and needed this surgery. I drive 2 1/2 hrs to go to Oxford, MS. My other options were to go to Jackson, Ms (1 1/2 hr) or to Memphis, Tn (2 1/2 hr). Dr. Michael King in Oxford came highly recommended to me. Hey all, I'm just curious to see what everyone is doing to get prepared for the surgery. So far all I've done is arrange childcare for my 2 year old son. My mother is coming in from out of state to help me take care of him during the daytime while my husband is at work for the first six weeks after surgery.
