(I hope this is the right forum for this question). I'm a 37 year old woman who has struggled with YO YO dieting my entire life. I've been looking at surgery options but of course I've never qualified through insurance because my BMI is too low (32.9) and I have no comorbidities. That said, I'm fully willing to pay for this on my own. I am 5'7", 210lbs, 32.9BMI. I've yoyo'd up to 220 and down to 170 for all of my adult life. My ideal weight would be around 140-150 but always fall short and gain everything back plus some. I'm wondering if I can even get this done and if its something that has worked for people in similar situations. There is a clinic near me …

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and I'm excited to be a part of it. I was 5 weeks postop on February 6. I've lost 30 pounds so far, but I've been stuck at 250 for about a week and a half. I'm trying not to get discouraged (or be irrational), but is it possible to hit a plateau so soon? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, Do any of you have a WW exercise monitor. The only problem with the one I have is that you have to pay for the WW e-tools plus 5 bucks to use it. It is awesome and you can even use it in the pool. I do water exercise because of my back and so since I have to pay for the tools I am just going to keep track of what I eat on the site before and after the surgery. The good news, I am a lifetime member and when I get back to goal weight the tools will be free and then the monitor will only cost me 5.00. I feel more comfortable keeping track of what I eat. My dietition said you don't need to but she is a twig and does not have a clue. Ya know. I want to be sure I get in th…

One lously little week to go and I'm so excited. This weekend, we finish cleaning up the house. Is it crazy I'm too superstitious to actually start packing the suitcase until Tuesday when I have my pre-op? I have the stuff I want to take ready and just sitting in a plastic bag, but nothing is together and organized. I'm just ready more so than ever to get in there and get this over with! And it just seems like the days can't move along fast enough.

I feel guilty because I went to Dressbarn today with the intent to buy one shirt with my gift card from Christmas. Well, I walked out with a few more. I found 3 on the sale rack and the other 3 I paid full price for. They are all smaller sizes and I felt terrific trying them on. I'm sad to know they'll be too big in a few months and that I spent that money.

I'm looking for some advice about how spouses have dealt with their spouses and their weight loss. I'm finding my husband is going to have a huge issue with the weight loss and me feeling more confident/ sexy.... Difference in dressing and I'm not sure how to approach this without fighting. We have been married 10 years and I've given him no reason to not trust me but I want this to be a positive journey for us both has anyone else had the same issues? For example wearing capris was what I always went with and I'm thinking shorts or skirts and I always make sure to cover up the stomach so I'm questioning wearing summer dresses or tank tops. He does not like when the "girl…

Well, I'm t-minus 19 days out. I'm starting to get some worries about loose skin, and the ability to function with it if I'm unable to get it taken care of right away. Look, I honestly don't expect anything except if it's bad, I'm horrible that way. I'm worried that I'll have a lot of loose skin that will make everyday life tough. Everyone says I carry my weight well, when I tell them I weigh in the upper 300's, they call me a liar, etc. The heaviest I've been is 424, lowest is 299, once, a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. I carry a large amount of muscle mass in my legs and arms, upper back, my stomach and chest are the trouble spots. The pic is my at aro…

I'm new to this website and joined simply because I need support to get through the next two months. I started my journey back in September, when I attended my seminar. After deciding that the sleeve was the best option for me, I got the ball rolling. I met with my insurance coordinator and she let me know I had to wait 6 months until I could have surgery; I was less than excited about that because I was looking for change soon. However, the last 4 months have been good for me. I've been referred to a counselor, who will work with me both pre-op and post-op...and she's really been trying to get me to be patient through this whole process. I think having to wait 6 months…

Welp, I made the hard decision to push my surgery date back til May. I'm in school full time and was hoping to get sleeved over spring break, but I came to realize that I have too much to lose if I have complications, or the anesthesia makes me loopy, or my body has a hard time adjusting. So I'm going to wait until right after finals when I have 3 full weeks before the summer semester. Good luck, March sleevers! I'll see you on the flip side!

Hi, I'm a 55 year old Dad, overweight most of my adult life, married, 3 adultish kids. My BMI is just under 50. I decided 6 months ago that I want to have the sleeve surgery. I found a doctor and just finished my 6 month wait for Blue Shield CA. My doctor required that I learn to eat right and lose weight prior to surgery, which I began doing in earnest on January 2. Since then I have religiously exercised and limited my calories to about 1000/day. I have lost 25 pounds, my doctor was very pleased and agreed to submit my case for insurance approval. Woohoo! However, having met this objective, I find that I am kind discouraged... As I have been dieting/exercisi…

Today is Thursday, and Monday I had my 2nd post op follow up with my surgeon. GREAT NEWS! I'm down 6lbs since my initial follow up and I'm 1/4 of the way to my goal already! He said he was proud of me and that I seem to be on the right track so far. I can't express how great it felt to hear someone sasy they were proud of me. At first I was like, uhm, ok? proud of me for what? not eating my weight in M&M's or falling into a large pit of Pasta? But as a long term fluff (that's what I call it) I have never been good at hearing compliments of any kind. After understanding that he was offering me positive reinforcement praise for (in my mind) so little efforts, I was lik…

Has anyone felt embarrassed about the fact that they had this done? I feel like people will view me as a failure for not being able to lose the weight on my own, the "normal" way as opposed to the "easy" way! I honestly don't plan on saying much even tho I know the weight loss will be significant in a short amount of time. I will say I had surgery and that is what is attributed to the weight loss but do not want to confirm weight loss surgery. Anyone out there feel the same? Please don't judge me! I'm just being honest and possibly saying what many are afraid to! If so how did you deal?

My insurance finally started covering the sleeve. Prior to then I was talking to a patient advocate at Dr. Lavin's office. She said call back when coverage starts. Well today is the day and now they are saying that it may take several weeks to verify coverage..i don't have several weeks. Bad enough I waited 6 months to.have a ins cover it. Is there a doc in Metairie or New Orleans that may have an easier process? Who was your surgeon? Help, please!

Sitting here in the hospital bed I feel good. The nausea meds really work and I'm having some mild pain. Pain killers make me nauseous though. When I first awoke it was terrifying I had no clue what was happening and I was in pain, but after I got through it all was fine. I hate the catheter, I'm just peeing and not realizing it. when I walk I can feel it hanging and it freaks me out. My throat is sore also, but aside from the little things its not that bad. I had a nightmare the night before that doctors cut into my stomach and spiders came out, so when the time came I was freaking out. I'm so proud I got through it. After all these stressful months it finally came. So…

I know that everyone will react to surgery and have different recoveries, but for those who had csections and have had VSG, how did recovery compare (in terms of pain and such, obviously I know eating will be different!)? I had a fairly easy recovery from my csection despite being on bed rest 4 weeks prior to delivery and developing preeclampsia which caused major swelling. I'm hoping that recovery from this will be just as "easy"!

Do any of you fellow sleevers wear a medical I.D. bracelet or necklace? I ran across a website the other day that had really nice bracelets and necklaces for diabetes, gastric bypass, etc. and I decided to purchase one for the gastric sleeve. It turned out really nice and engraved with the information I submitted. I thought that, yes, I would want medical professionals to know, in the case of an emergency, that I do not have a normal size stomach!

Arrgggghhhh! I've been trying to eat right, but a box of Milk Duds was calling my name. It kept saying "eat me, eat me..." I was hypnotized by it's words and I found myself buying the box. I then told myself, only a few. Well, I kept "only a few" to myself until the whole box was gone. It's a might discouraging. I know I have to control my portions and cut out the junk food. I am so afraid that after getting sleeved, I will continue with my bad eating habits. I can go for months being good and eating right, then once I fall off the wagon, I stay off for months and can't seem to get back up. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to pick oneself up and continue …

So I am not quite 5 months out and I have been in this stall for about 3 weeks and I feel like I am not going to lose anymore weight. I also feel like I can eat more food. I am still only able to eat a small amount of food but more than before. I thought if you eat more that it can actually cause a boost in weightloss because your body doesn't feel like it's in starvation mode. I am still eating right and excersing the the way I am supposed to. Any tips? ??? I don't I want this to be the end to my journey with about 40lbs left to go.

This is my second stall and I am only 8 weeks post op it is extremely depressing to follow all your doctors orders and even change up your daily diet to see what will and will not work for you on the weight loss journey, This will be my third week in a row with no inches off or weight come tomorrow! I am frustrated and angry at it! I gave up every food I loved and I drink my water and eat between 450-575 calories a day! I even walk every day at least 30 minutes if not more. So please tell me why I have been between 223-225 for the last few weeks? It makes me want to eat the way i use to but who will i be hurting only myself so why bother I did not come this far to be stu…

I was sleeved on Monday, January 7th. While in there, my dr fixed a small hiatal hernia. I came home last night and the pain has remained fairly intense. My lortab doesn't make it the full 4 hours. I also have difficulty breathing with pain in the diaphragm obviously related to the hernia repair, but I also have pain in my shoulders and between my shoulder blades. Has anyone else had a hiatal hernia repaired (with or without the VSG)? Is the pain supposed to be pretty bad?

Tomorrow I will be 2 months post op band to sleeve. I have lost 43 pounds so far but the scale hasn't moved in two weeks.... WTF. I log ally food into my fitness pal and have a fit bit.. gym at least 3-4 times a week. I noticed that I can eat more since surgery and it bothers me as the scale stalled. I have been eating between 800-950 calories a day. When I eat, I eat too much and don't feel so great but I feel like my mouth wants to taste more food....not good! Day of surgery I was 271 and now 227 but I want to lose another 30 pounds at least. I was never hungry for the first few weeks after surgery but now I'm feeling hunger...Why? I saw a post to you that was pretty unkind. Let me say first, that early on, i thought you were just a smidge over the top, BUT have come to love and appreciate your carefree banter. And secondly, we need you on this site. You started standing out when there was real nastiness going on and, i am betting, many left the site. You roared in and lightened up several weeks of blaming, name calling, insulting postings. Things have swung back to a more positive nature and I thank you for that. Yes, i can see that those wound a bit tighter than myself might not see humor in some of yours and fyres comments, but hey.... Sure beats that other crap that was going on. So pleas…

Hi Guys, I'm 29yo, I've had my sleeve on August 20th. I was 302 pounds when i got sleeved. I am now 207 pounds. Everything with my surgery went smoothly. I am from Philly and got my surgery done in Philly at Pennsylvania hospital. My surgeon was Dr. David Wernsing. Over the last month I lost 22 pounds. Since Friday i started feeling pains in the middle right part of my body, below my ribcage. I believe it's my gallbladder. When my body is not moving it's like a dull pain. On a scale from 1-10 it's like 2-3. But when I move around or walk up/down stairs, or try to sleep (im a side sleeper) or drive a vehicle, the pain goes from a 2 to like a 8, to a very sharp pa…

I've been crying since 5:22pm when I stepped out the door at work... I just started my pre-op diet Monday. My surgery is 2/12. I work in a small office. We all have lunch at the same time. Today, my boss played a video for everyone to watch about a severely obese disabled man who worked with a trainer and lost all kinds of weight. (trust me... it all leads back to me having this surgery) I thought this was SO insensitive on his part. I got my protien shake together and left the room... holding back the tears. Then tonite a coworker asked me some questions about the surgery. 10min later I heard she and another coworker talking about it. They pulled me into the room…

I went to my consult today. I felt like it was very thorough. The doc said I was the 9th person he had seen today interested in a band to sleeve revision. He thought based on our exam I was a great candidate for revision (barring anything that might pop up on a test later of course) so we got the ball rolling. Eeekkk!! I have to go for a sleep study and an endoscopy as well as have an EKG. The earliest I could have the endoscopy would be 2/21. He went ahead and unfilled my band today and I have to say it kinda feels weird knowing there's nothing in there after all this time! I do feel like this is the way to go for me. I NEED to do this. But I just wish I could fast f…

So today I went for my second post-op with the nurse practitioner- she says I'm doing fine but I'm mildly frustrated with a stall I'm experiencing. I need to up my fluids and exercise. Anyhoo- I was asking about my goal weight because no one ever discussed it with me. Apparently my surgeon's office is not so much concerned with BMI, etc., but more with resolving your obesity-related health issues and getting to a weight that you and you body are comfortable with, even if it's outside the BMI range. The NP told me that because of the weight we carried around for years, at lets say 170 lbs, you may look on the outside to be more like 150 lbs and clothes fit accordingly…

Ok so I had a appointment with my Gynecologist today and I spoke with her regarding the VSG surgery and my reasoning for wanting to do it (PCOS, endometriosis, high cholesterol, Achilles tendonitis and to become more heathy and build endurance and breathing). She says she does not support the surgery and strongly suggest that I dont have It because its the easy way out. She stated that I would appreciate it more if I did it without surgery. I just feel like no one knows the struggle of a overweight person until you have been. I was hurt because she didnt support me for she has been my doctor for 8 years and has helped me through somethings. She said that shebhas patient…
