Needing support to get through the next 2 months!

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this website and joined simply because I need support to get through the next two months.

I started my journey back in September, when I attended my seminar. After deciding that the sleeve was the best option for me, I got the ball rolling. I met with my insurance coordinator and she let me know I had to wait 6 months until I could have surgery; I was less than excited about that because I was looking for change soon. However, the last 4 months have been good for me. I've been referred to a counselor, who will work with me both pre-op and post-op...and she's really been trying to get me to be patient through this whole process. I think having to wait 6 months has given me the chance to really think about the changes that are going to happen and prepare myself for my new lifestyle.

With that being said, I'm growing really impatient. Everyday, I look at myself in the mirror and want to cry. My clothes are too tight. I'm completely out of shape. I have no motivation to do anything. And I'm just extremely uncomfortable. I don't want to wait two more months...I'm ready NOW. How can I get by for two more months when I'm feeling so horrible right now?

It is really hard to wait when you are ready for the change NOW! It was almost exactly one year from my first consult toy surgery date. The best advice I can give is that you are committing to a lifestyle change... use these next couple of months to start making minor changes in your behaviors. Take your Vitamins, sip your drinks throughout the day, start trying different Protein shakes/ supplements.

It will go by faster then you think and post surgery has flown by for me!

Thanks, Lexi. I have really tried to use this time to adjust and prepare myself for change. I'm finally taking all of my Vitamins that have been recommneded and have been TRYING to get 64 oz of Water a day in. As far as Protein shakes go, eh. Haha. What kind did you like? I'm just so depressed and over having to wait. I try to take my own advice and think of things this way "what's 6 months compared to the rest of my life being healthier?" But, it's so much easier said than done.

Oh, I completely understand! LOL. I love the chocolate Protein shake by Premiere. I get mine at costco, but have seen other sleevers get it at Sam's. For powder, I like BlueBonnet and got it on Amazon. Do you have a whole foods or organic market near you? You can usually get individual packets and shakes to try before buying a lot.

Do you have your support system in place? Where are you located?

And I bought a 20oz insulated cup/straw from Starcucks. That's the only way I can get my fluids. Crystal Light and Decaf Twinings English Breakfast tea. :)

I also use an insulated cup with straw for my fluids! I've been using a liquid Crystle Light and like it A LOT better than the powered stuff.

My support system consists of my mom (who had the bypass back in '04), my boyfriend (who is not always understanding, but there for me...what can I say, he's 135lbs and can eat whatever he wants), and a handful of close friends. I feel like a lot of people don't understand my everyday struggle because most of my friends aren't overweight, so I keep a lot bottled up inside. I'm in Columbus, Ohio.

I will have to go to Sam's this week and look for Permiere...thank goodness my mom has a membership there. I actually do have a few organic and whole food around. I never thought to look there for Protein Shakes. My dietician hasn't really talked a lot about the pre-op and post-op diet yet. I'm really interested in knowing what I have to look forward to...

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
