I finally think I have it figured out. Today I ate sushi and then ate a couple of fries. I mean I ate a small fry. It was one of those days when I was so hungry I just took what I could get. NEVER AGAIN!!! EVER EVER EVER! Basically I ate WAY TOO MANY CARBS...This is not dumping. I thought it was caffeine a few months back...but it isn't. So yeah...I will never eat a carb heavy meal again! Reactive hypoglycemia occurs in people who do not have diabetes. It's a different type of hypoglycemia than the one that affects people who have diabetes. Although the causes are unrelated, the symptoms of both kinds of hypoglycemia are the same. Symptoms of hypoglycemia: Tre…

Today I hit the 50 lb. mark, having had surgery on December 12th. Almost every day someone will say something nice about my weight loss. Today a friend started to say, " you look really..." And before she could finish I blurted out " I've lost 50 lbs!" We laughed about how much I sounded like one of the first graders I teach but I was just so excited that I couldn't wait to share. Started at 282 and weighed 232 today. For the first time EVER, the scale feels like my friend.

I saw my surgeon today and my body is apparently rejecting my lapband. That is what's causing my pain. I am waiting to hear about a date for removal. BUT I cannot do the sleeve in the same surgery. Since I had the plication with my lapband it has to be removed and the staples from the plication taken out first. Then my stomach has to heal for 2-3 months before they will do the sleeve. The surgeon stated that doing them both at the same time is asking for trouble with leaks. I asked him since I have only had the surgery 6 months ago is it that big of a deal and he said yes. Even if it was only a week. Anyone else heard of this?

For those who haven't been following my story............... I was diagnosed with an eroded band in November of 2011 and had it removed in March of 2012. I had to wait for six months before revising to the gastric sleeve as my surgeon wanted to wait for me to heal completely and do medical tests before confirming that I would be a good candidate for the sleeve. I have complete those tests and he was satisfied that I could have the sleeve. We also found that I had developed another hiatal hernia (the first one was repaired when I had my lap band surgery). My predetermination request for the sleeve surgery was denied. They stated that I needed to complete a six mont…

I'm really tired of waking up hungry and going to bed hungry and being soooooo hungry all day that I can't even think straight! Ugh! Please give me encouragement. Tell me this will end.

  15. Hello Everyone My bame is Marilyn and I am new to this group and the site as well. I am 33 years old and have been diagnosed with PCOS since 2009. I never had the issues of missing periods or heavy periods, but I had and still have issues with gaining excessive amount of weight, hair loss and facial hair growth. I do laser treatments for the facial hair growth and I am loving it because it has helped me drastically. I still have some growth, but I do not have to be in the mirror everyday. I get a touch up maybe every 3-4 months. It's well worth it for me. As for why I want surgery now, well it took me a long time to finally come to that decision. When I went to see …

I never lost weight, I did very few fills and there was no organized suport when I was first banded. I had other issues over the years and found a new Dr here in Chicago, tried to make it work and then turned my energy to infertility and have a wonderful little boy. During my pregnancy I unfilled and let it sit for 3 more years. I had my band checked when I starting having discomfort and through a fluoroscope the new Dr said nothing was wrong., I am researching revision but am looking into another surgical group. Sleevers who are at goal: Do you eat other things besides Protein? I am six weeks out and eat mostly protein. I am losing slowly. I hope one day I can eat a meal with meat, veg, and starch. Does this happen at goal? All the research I did on the sleeve before I had it and still did not realize it was the Atkins diet but with a lot less food. I think when I go to the dr this week I will be released to all food. I want a salad, a piece of apple not in that order. Any advise?

Looking forward to starting my life over and not having to deal with the aches and pains that this weight puts on knees and back and feet. However my family doesn't share in my joy! My husband is super supportive and that's the most important thing to me. He will be by my side the entire time. My mother doesn't like it and she doesn't say much either. My father is adamantly against it and after I told him the first time and got his reaction I haven't mentioned it since. Long story short....banded in 2008. No success with band. No erosion or slips...No reflux, just food that won't go down. I've moved a few times with my job since 2008. Spoke to my surgeon, Dr. Minkin, about a revision to sleeve on 12/17. To be honest, I was so upset and emotional when I left I don't remember what the next step was... I do remember we decided that I want the band removed. I'm so early in the revision process. I'm not unsure. I just would like to know if anyone in my area has gone through this process. Any input is appreciated.

Hello to all, I am having WLS in about one month and right now I am jumping thru all the hoops to get paperwork, forms and tests completed before I see my surgeon on Feb. 26th. I just wanted to take a survey to see how many folks who have had the Sleeve surgery had/have at least 100 to 140 pounds to lose. I have taken the time over the past 3 years to research all types of WLS and based on my own research have decided that the Gastric Band had too many problems, and the gastric bypass was a little too scary for me. The sleeve seems the better route to go since you are disconnected and then reconnected . I am in my early 60's and need to lose around 140 pounds. I …

I have acid reflux and take Zantac twice a day. What do I take after surgery? I will be on full liquids for three weeks after. I know that I will be concentrating on getting my liquids and Proteins, but what other liquids can I have? Just anything? Will I be able to sleep on my side or stomach after? Will I sleep well? That's all for now. I know I will have more in a few hours!

Okay, how many people "pigged out" on food prior to the pre-op diet? I start mine on Feb 14th and I find that I am eating all kinds of food and eating more than prior to getting insurance approval for surgery. Once I got the approval, I noticed that I've fallen into some old eating habits. I just hope I can quit after my new stomach heals.

Today I am down to 247.6 I am thrilled to be loosing but when I read about the people who lose 70-100 lbs in 3 months I just have to wonder what am I doing wrong. My PCP shook his head and ask me to consider my journey in its entirety My biggest recorded weight in his office was 386lbs in 2006. Hello! I currently have my lap band but not for long! Scheduled to be removed on 2/12!! I will then move toward sleeve, that is if approved. Which shouldn't be a problem. Just curious if anyone had constant abdominal pain with their band? My stomach hurts all the time! just a pain. Not excruciating or anything but just uncomfortable. I am so ready for this to be out and really hopeful that this pain will end with the band out. I am worried that the pain won't go away and will be an issue with the sleeve. Just curious!

I've been super frustrated with the scale for the past 3 weeks because that number hasn't been moving. But I just looked in the mirror and realized for the first time in my life that I have a real, honest-to-god neck!! I HAVE A NECK! It's not just extra chins anymore I feel like a freaking swan...it's silly, but I am off the wall thrilled. Also, you can see that I have a collar bone! I've also gone down 3 pant sizes since December, and consequently can now fit into my University's circa 1900's theatre seats!! I can now support my department without bruising my butt! Bonus. Getting sleeved was the best decision I have ever made.

I was banded with plication in August 2012. I have had two fills so far. I have not lost any weight since November. I follow my diet, exercise etc. Now I am having pain in my stomach and left side around to my back. It gets worse when I eat. I went throught Dr. Wilkenfeld in Conroe and am finding out that he doesn't really care about you after your surgery. Is it too soon to consider another surgeon and possibly a revision to sleeve? Will another surgeon even see me? I wish I knew what I know now about him before using him and having the lapband. He talked me out of the sleeve and I wish I had just changed doctor's then.

Before surgery, I would go on a diet, and sometimes I would lose weight, sometimes not. Sometimes I would stay with the program for months or longer. Then....inevtably, I would hit a plateau. I remember once it took me a year to lost 50 pounds, then I hit a >6 week plateau. I was doing everything right - super healthy low calorie diet, lots of exercise, good Fluid intake, etc. I told myself I would get through this, afterall, how could I not lose weight? Well, (I know you all know how this story ends), I eventually let the discouragement get the best of me, slowly slipped back into bad habits, and gained the 50 back, plus some. So, since that time, anytime I tried to…

Those of you who have already had surgery.... do you have any regrets? Anything you wish you would have done before surgery? Do you regret getting the surgery? What about afterward? Also, did you tell people beforehand that you were getting it done? I've told my closest family and a few friends and for the most part everyone is very supportive. I'm not really concerned with those who may not be supportive because it is MY body and MY decision. But if you had people that were not supportive, how did you deal with it? THANKS!!!

I'm also out of the 300s!!!! 299.5 baby.... but wait... it gets better...... I haven't even had my surgery yet!!! Down 30 pounds in the past 10 weeks and a total of 61 pounds from my highest weight. Today's victory is definitely going to give me some good motivation to plow through the next month while I wait for my surgery.
