So I will be getting my surgery done first thing in the morning on 12/12/12 at Good Sam hospital in San Jose. The surgeon said that I was the first and that he had more that day in that hospital. I really wouldn't mind meeting up with a buddy who will be getting surgery that day or still going to be in the hospital on that day. So just a call out to everyone out there, anyone going to be in Good Sam on 12/12/12 that might want to get team support going?

I found out during Christmas holidays that I would be having my surgery on the 23! I am so excited for this change, but nervous because I have never had any form of surgery or hospital stay. I do not know what to expect getting put to sleep, waking up, having the catheter, etc. ready for it to be over!!!!

  4. I just wanted to know if there are people who fell off the wagon and felt that they had ruined their sleeve or felt it was not working anymore. Can that happen? I would like to hear from people who did lil miss diva's boot camp or the pouch 5 day plan even though we don't have pouches. Did you feel a big difference? Oh, and is it true that some surgeons do tighter sleeves than others or is this a myth?

  8. Hi Everyone Happy New Year to you all, especially my sleeved and soon to be sleeved Aussies!! Do you remember all the years one of your resolutions was to go on yet another diet - all the ads on tv etc promising happy ever after if you drink this, take that, do this? I am completely over the moon with my sleeve and my new burgeoning sleek shape although it hasn't been easy at all. Anyhoo, my resolution for 2013 is to be very strict on my Vitamin supplementation and intake of nutrient dense food! Because I had so much trouble with nausea for months after having my surgery including lactose intolerance I found it very difficult to tolerate Vitamins and minerals. I …

Hi guys . So excited to finally be given a date for my sleeve surgery. I will be sleeved on 31st Jan at concord hospital by dr David Joseph ( who has been awesome so far by the way). I will be starting on optifast tomorrow so wish me luck! As with a lot of posts I've read I am a little scared but mostly excited. My biggest concern is as a mother how my children will cope without me for 3-4 days especially since the day of my surgery they are all starting back at 3 new schools ??? Anyway any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have enjoyed reading about everyone for the last month or so and now it's time to join in !

Surgery date was Aug 6th and notice that my hair is falling out now. Ridiculously thin. I've been a vitamin junkie but not helping. Need to figure out how to style it. Always had sexy hair but nit now. What to do? Look like an old lady. Oh and now a saggy chicken neck thing going on. Ugh. Still beets being fat.

I was supposed to have my sleeve done in October of last year but insurance hold UPS have made it to where I schedule my surgery tomorrow. I'm nervous and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. My question is, is that I am from Nebraska and moving to Lafayette, Louisiana on Feb 11. Where would a good follow up dr. be located at? This will b my first time in Louisiana. Any help is appreciated.

  17. Was thinking about throwing out my scale this morning. I've not had surgery yet, and need to lose a set amount of weight before surgery so can't do it now. But, for my entire life I feel like I've defined myself and success with a certain number on the scale. How I felt about myself was tied to that number. If I was gaining weight, it didn't stop me from gaining but made me beat myself up. When I lose, it's either not enough or again, how I define success. Do I really want my life after the sleeve to be defined by the number? Should I base it more on how I feel and look? It's something I'm thinking about. I've struggled setting a goal weight because I simply don…

I am working on scheduling my surgery and my doctor mentioned that if you have heartburn before having the sleeve procedure then it could sometimes worsen to the extent that medication can't control it and the only solution would be a bypass. I am not thrilled about possibly having a bypass...but I will do what it takes. Has anyone on here had the sleeve surgery and had heartburn prior to surgery (on medication for it). And did the heartburn worsen and could you control it with meds? I am excited about the thought of finally losing the weight, but not really wanting to have another surgery in my future. Thanks!

Before my surgery dinner consisted of drive thru or me making dinner. Now that I have had the surgery on December 31 suddenly its cookbooks. I go into the hospital and come out 2 days later and suddenly all food is cooked at home and all my favorites. I guess im frustrated because it smells good but I cant have any. I say can you warn me so I can go into another room. Just can't deal with the memories, weird but I do miss my comfort food. Does it ever get easier?

  21. I was sleeved on 12-11-12. Today was my 5 wk ck up. Ive only lost 22lbs. My dr said I shouldve been down 15 more lbs at the least. He said ALL we hv to eat now is protein, water & our vitamins. I guess ive been making this WAY too hard. So...im gonna tighten up and do this HIS way. excited!!!! Love my bossy dr...man I need him

I just finished reading this article published on Yahoo for ABC News. Male jurors are more likely to find obese women guilty than lean women, but they didn't show the same weight bias against their own gender, a Yale University study found. "I think it's one more nail in the coffin of how painful it is for people that are of larger sizes," Lynn Grefe, president and CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association. "These people could be healthy. We're judging people. We're making stereotypes. We did this with race years ago. We did it with religion." As if reading this article wasn't depressing enough, I then ventured into the comments section expecting to see some…

  25. In my case, its my husband. He LOVES fried food. We have a deep fat fryer that just sits on the kitchen counter. Even before surgery, I wasn't much into deep fried things. Now. post-surgery. I am really kind of afraid of certain things, like deep fried food, rice, things high in sugar, etc., for fear of 1) how it may make me feel (want to die); and 2) IT'S BAD FOR ME and not in accordance with how I would like to live my life from here on out. He won't let up on how I should go ahead and eat fried food if I want to, and rice is OK and I should have California rolls once in awhile, or chunks of white bread with butter, blah blah blah. It's like, maybe I CAN eat it, …

I had surgery 11/13. Since then I've lost 40 pounds...pre-op diet and soon after. I exercise 3 days a week with weight training and walk daily. I eat around 800-900 calories a day and get most of my protein in and drink all my water. What can I do? I'm feeling nervous that this is it. I thought I would be losing more by now. Any helpful suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I am now three days post op. (Former band patient that eroded, band removed last March). Was in the hospital two days. I'm sore, mostly in my lower back (probably from laying down so much) and my large incision (where they removed my stomach) really hurts when I move the wrong way. I was able to start yogurt and applesauce today along with my non-calorie fluids and protein shakes. Those seem to be going down well. I can eat about an ounce at a time right now. I'm not hungry at all. Some things taste a little different but not horrible. (My vanilla shake tasted more like coconut). I was able to get a shower today which really helped! I still get tired easily. I…

  33. I am petrified that I can eat too much at 6 weeks out. I asked my NUT and Dr's assistant and they said that everyone's different and I may not have as much swelling as some people I asked about my bougie size and it's 38, but the assistant said that doesn't really matter. I think I am comparing myself to too many people and then watching videos of people that are further out and comparing what I can eat also. I am 5ft 10 so I may have a very long stomach compared to some others. I am just curious. I lost about 12 pounds pre-op and 18 post op.

I apologize first- this probably shouldn't be posted here, but I'm just hoping maybe someone might be able to help send me in the right direction on this and everyone on here is always so great about helping one another. I need to figure out how 2 people I know are related. I know them in a professional setting, and so the information I have is somewhat limited. I'm willing to do the research, but I don't want to get caught up in spending lots of money on tons of different reports of website subscriptions only to come up dry. I'd even be willing to pay someone who has access to this information if they could help me. Feel free to PM me if you want or just reply back…

Piggin' out before you start your liquids has again proven to be a bad idea. I knew it but i still did it and it has been really REALLY tough. Have not cheated once though. Bought all my necessities. 38. Hello everyone! Just thought I would quick share that I have recently decided that I want to share my journey on YouTube. I have been debating about this decision ever since I had the surgery last March and have finally gotten to the point that I don't care what negative things people may say in the comments. So I am basically turning all of my journals into video format. The main reason I have decided to do this is because I had the surgery so young and I know there are plenty of other teenagers/young adults trying to decide if WLS is right for them. I want to appear when they search for videos on the surgery. Not to mention, I know there isn't a lot of published stuff…

I was sleeved on 12/28. This past Saturday morning I made a bonehead move and ate a cheesy tot, while getting breakfast for my family at a drive throu. I was sick the rest of the day and was unable to continue with my full liquids. Buy Sunday morning I was suffering from dehydration. Long story short, I'm in the hospital & they found blood clots in some veins around my GI track. Anybody's been through this before?

...buying clothes to replace the ones that are too big? I was just sleeved 12/17, but I am almost 40 lbs down from my starting weight and my clothes are seriously baggy. My underwear falls down. I guess what I need to do is go through ALL of my clothes in hopes of finding a few things I may have grown out of before. I have no problem going to a thrift store, but we all know how hard it was finding clothes that fit in a place that sells new clothes at our old weight, and thrift stores are so hit-or-miss. Any suggestions? -Kendra

I was at work and had brought some cheese & crackers with me for a snack (4 wheat thins & 1 oz swiss cheese). Right after I ate them I got nauseated and had to run to the bathroom where I did vomit- sort of. I was wretching, but nothing was really coming up. It wasn't dry heaves- I had stuff in my stomach. So now I'm thinking, so stuff will go down, but when you need to throw up, it won't come up? I had eaten this same snack once before, and I didn't have issues with it, so what gives? 47. Hey all I saw 3 articles today about studies done on women who have undergone weight loss surgery and then got pregnant. Basically all of the articles say that the studies show that women should wait 12-18 months before conceiving. My doctor said in his info seminar that he reccommends 2 years. I never would have thought to ask when I went to the seminar. Partially because I'm too focused on getting out of school already! (It's taking sooo long, but it's my fauly for that sooo... ) Anyways I thought I would post here about it, Not sure if I can post links or not? But I have them if anyone is interested. Any thoughts? Tuesday I was diagnosed with a leak. I am 2 1/2 months out. I am shocked to say the least. The pocket of infection is in between my stomach and spleen so they can't just have it drained. I have to have surgery tomorrow for it. It still sounds like he isn't sure how he is going to approach getting at the infection. I am worried and scared. He says most likely it was or is a pin hole leak. I am hoping it has healed itself and just needs the infection removed from the abdominal cavity. Anyone ever been through something similar?
