What to do with my hair just before surgery and just after

Trying to decide the best thing to do with my hair, should I get braids or a weeks for the first 6 weeks or so? Any thoughts, what did you do??

    mostly natural may have about 2 or 3 inches of perm was thinking about an all over weave
