  3. I was sleeved on Tuesday, 3/5. I was pretty anxious going in, so the lovely anesthesiologist made sure to give me a nice good dose of versed. I don't remember being wheeled into the OR, or the PACU at all. I remember waking up in my room in a good amount of discomfort. Morphine was not cutting it for pain control so they switched it to dilaudid, but that made me rather nauseated, so then I had to have zofran and phenergan pretty much around the clock. Switching over to oral pain/anti-nausea meds has made a big difference. Despite the fact that I was extremely nauseous, I never did throw up. After tolerating some Water and then a portion of a Protein drink, I was re…

Hi everyone I finally made the big leap together healthy. I got my sleeve on Tuesday and so far so good. I'm not really in pain. I just have a lot of discomfort from the anesthesia. There is a ton of air in my tummy. I wish I could drink some pop so I could burp it all up. But I know soda is off limits. Any advice? Also if you are looking for a good Protein drink try Isopure. They are 20oz drinks and gave 40 grams of protein. I really like the grape kind. You can find them at GNC. They are not cheap but it's worth the expense. I can't do the Protein powder yet. I also made some yummy meatball Soup right beforevmy surgery. It strained out the meat and veg…

At my heaviest I was 275-280. I looked at my son's graduation pics in 2011 and was horrified at what I saw. It wasn't just the size I looked unhealthy and not really happy. I had to think about things and put my life in prospective. I was on 4 bp meds and knees aching. I asked myself if I wanted to live to see future grandchildren and different accomplishments in both of my children lives and the answer way yes. I lost down to 247 on my own and knew I needed help and then I found Dr. David Steinburg and began my journey. I had my surgery 12/11/12 and as of today I am 195 lbs.

  6. I've had 2 breast surgerys 10 years apart and both times my body rejected the stitches. The incisions would have puss and the stitches would pop through for weeks they wouldn't heal until they were all out. I feel like a trained nurse now. Also when I was younger my eyebrow ring & belly button ring pushed out ... I'm worried my body will try and reject the staples as they're a foreign object?! Is that silly to think??

Hello, I hadn't surgery Wednesday morning and I most say its been a little ruff. I was released yesterday and slept all day. Today the pain is some what better and when trying to sallow it seems like it has to find where to go! Strange I no!! The stomach is due to the staples and I've been praying that heals soon. I must say that this site ha really helped me and I'm really trying to sip, sip, sip so I won't feel dehydrated . The pain Ned's don't really seem to help the staple pain but I guess it's bearable. Starting weight: 243 Weight day of surgery: 230 Today's weight : 224 Keeping you all in my prayers:)

Hello everyone! I am in the beginning phases of my journey. I'm in the process of getting my clearances. I'm hearing a lot of horror stories about the band working for a couple of years just to have the weight find its way back on. My family doc is suggesting the sleeve, but I don't think I want to go to that extreme. I know several people who have had roux en Y done and they have either gained it all back or they are very sick. This is one reason I have chosen to go the band route because it is adjustable and not irreversible should something go wrong in the future. So, has anyone gained their weight back with the band? Am I just getting the jitters? Thanks guys!!

Had the Lapband in September 2008 lost 185lbs over the next 2 years. In oct of 2012 Lapband was removed because it was tearing into my stomach. I lost 8 pints of blood and spent almost 3 weeks in the hospital. Now I have to live without it and its really hard. I'm only up 8lbs from my "normal weight" but I'm starting to slip in old habitats.

I had my Lapband surgery 8.22.11 I only lost 20lbs. Totally devastated and depressed I couldnt understand why I wasn't losing the weight. I kept getting my fills like I was supposed to and still nothing. My surgeon at the time was very rude and not supportive, he never checked for slips, leaks or anything. I finally switched doctors this year and my new doc immediately wanted to check for issues. Well I found out my port was backwards or it flipped. I was devastated. I've had this in me over a year wrong which has stopped my wls progress and now I was faced with correcting the port to see if the band would work or go a different route. I decided I want the sleeve! I don't…

Hello everyone, I started out at 276lbs and I got my lap band Feb 21 2013. I did great the first 2 days post op because I had no pain, no appetite and I was losing weight. 6 days post op my appetite started coming back, cravings for sweets and I had my first appt/checkup. I lost total of 15 pounds going down to 262 but now I am going back up, currently 267 and I crave for food, I eat almost anything, and I have no discipline. I vomit once already cause the food would not go down after a couple bites. Everytime I eat dinner I get a stuck feeling and I have to stop and let it work its way down and then continue. I need some help and suggestions. Did my band slip already o…

I am 11 days post op, yesterday I started to get a soreness about the size of my hand starting at the big incision and down the front of my abdomen again about the size of my hand. Its a new soreness like a giant bruise. It hurts more to bend over and turn even on my good side in bed. Has anyone else felt this pain? Is it something I should worry about? I was doing relatively good. Getting better each day. This seems like a set back.

  17. I am just over 4 months out and I am so glad I decided to do this! I only have one regret and that is that I did not opt for the surgery sooner! I am sure many feel the same. My starting weight was 333 lbs, 328 at date of surgery, and I am now down to 275! I may be somewhat of a slow looser, but I am pleased with my progress. I am no longer taking any blood pressure or cholesterol meds and I feel fantastic! I am attaching two pics, one the day I meet with the nutritionist one month before surgery when I was at my highest weight of 333. The second was two weeks ago when I was at 279. Great yes but not. Had many compliments then started hearing you are not looking healthy, you are getting to thin to having my first bad experience with an overfill. It seriously helps! . My story: After having 3 kids and reaching a high of 296 I decided enough was enough. About 2 years ago I got down to 231 on my own through serious diet and exercise in 5 months. But since then I have maintained around the 240ish area. Just shortly before Xmas I found out that my new insurance would cover my surgery (well besides the 1500$ deductible) and decided to start the process. And boy was it a process just to have surgery!! since I had my initial consultation with the surgeon yesterday, I guess I have officially begun my "journey." I am still very apprehensive about the surgery, but feel like I am at the end of my rope now and that this is the only viable option I have for a healthy life. I know this is a somewhat different attitude than most of you whose posts I've read, but I am just being honest. The surgeon I consulted only does VSG, but his partner does others, like the RNY...after doing research, I think VSG will be my best option, and my doctors seem to agree. I had some hesitation (1) because the procedure is a lot newer than RNY and (2) I wasn't sure that a restrictive-only WLS…

My surgery was March 6. I also had a hernia repair. The surgery took about an hour and fifteen minutes for both procedures. The doctor said my sleeve was textbook perfect. I had a lot of gas pain for the first two days and it can be really uncomfortable. My pain is minimal and my incisions are all less than an inch wide. I am able to tolerate all liquids so far with zero nausea. I have been walking really well and was released from the hospital around noon. Overall the procedure is not bad at all. Hello to anyone reading Back in January I went to see my PCP about weight loss surgery, I've been considering it for at least 3 years now and always talked myself out of it by saying its the easy way out and trying to convince myself that all I have to do is eat less and work out more. Right! I have always been overweight. Even in my baby pics I look fat. Seriously, don't laugh! There wasn't a time when I wasn't bigger than everyone of my classmates, in addition to being fat, I was also taller! Odd ball, yes that's me. I've told I should not be feeling hunger for 4-6 hours. This hasn't happened yet.. I feel like I'm the only one this has happened to when I read different entrys.
