Hello everyone, this is my first night on here and my surgery is scheduled Friday. I'm overjoyed and terrified all together, I'm ready to begin my new journey ,but fear consequences of going under the knife. I have two small children and they depend on me , but I have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing this for them, and I have to be healthy for them. I also fear the pain and recovery time, I've had two csec but I see that the pain can be worse than that...I also work and attend school, how will I juggle this? Is there anyone in the same boat or had a smooth recovery with minimum pain? I do know everyone is different but I still fear intense pain:-(

I have been prone to obesity most of my adult life. I have dieted so many times I cannot even remember. Alot of times I was very successful and lost tremendous amounts of weight in very short periods. But as you all know the routine......I would get overconfident once I reached my goal weight and I would quickly gain it all back and some. Five years ago, I was in fact very far along with yet another diet and feeling pretty good and healthly and out of the blue......wham........I had a MI. (myocardial infarction) My heart stopped from a blocked artery. I got zapped five times in the ER........as in dead!!. Well......I'm writing this...... so ......they were able t…

I am in the process of getting a conversion to sleeve from the Lapband and I'm just curious as to how long should I expect to be off work? I work 2 jobs.... so when I got the band I was out for a few days and back at it and I know this is more of an intense surgery. So any and all responses welcome.

I've been reading from the forums for about 3 weeks and I have had a lot of my questions answered, I want to add that I love how supportive and straight forward most of you are. I've waited to post any thing because I have been waiting to make sure that I would be able to get the band. My surgery date is April 5th, I'm self pay and this has been in the works for a while, my husband and I hate using credit or having payments so we've saved for this. I'm very excited my DH is very supportive I'm surprised i'm not more nervous. I'm really looking forward to learning from all of you and you don't know it but you all have helped me already!

I have been thinking, researching, contemplating, debating, and every other "ing" word possible the sleeve. And today I finally had a consultation with my surgeon and Im beginning the pre-op process. Little about me: Im a 27 year old ER nurse who weighs 336lbs. I've tried for years to lose weight... Diet, exercise, nutritionists, etc. Im a nurse, I know what I need to do and the right way to do it. And yet... Nothing. Very little improvement. Im blessed to have a boyfriend who loves me the way I am and is doing his best to be supportive of me. He just wants the best for me. My family is supportive, but doesn't think Im *that* overweight. My BMI says otherwise. Im bl…

My friend and I have been best friends since we were 15. We have both battled weight issues since our teen years. Despite living completely different lives and living in different parts if the country, our friendship has always flourished. She let me know during the pre-op phase that she was completely opposed to the surgery, and that I could do it the old-fashioned way (even though neither of us had ever reached a healthy weight doing it the old-fashioned way). I love her so much and don't want to lose her, but se actually just asked me to back off and give her space. Anyone else have any issues with friends related to their decision to pursue surgery, and have any …

Never get on here but just checking in reading posts. Everyone has the same concerns, issues but eventually everything turns out fine. I have put on about 15 pounds that I am trying to take off from the 75 I originally lost but not too bad after 7 years. I have the tool to do it I just need to make my mind up! Unfortunately there is nothing that I cannot eat but I will get there. Have never exercised, I know, isn't that terrible! I swear I am going to start though! Just want everyone to know that seven years out it is still all good! No regrets!

I am 7 days out. I had my surgery in Mx with Dr. Ponce. I noticed the incision over the umbilicus which was the largest of the 5 began to get hard. I had scheduled a follow up with my regular Dr that I see before I went to Mexico. Yesterday I went for the appoint and he said I have a hematoma. He said that I should just watch it and if I began having a fever go to the ER. I am now so worried that I will have to have it surgically excised or something. Today it is bigger and has been hurting all day. It is the only source of discomfort at this point. I have already made another appointment for tomorrow (Thursday) because I return to work on Friday. I am a RN …

I am going to be "sleeved" on my actually birthday April 22nd! I have always made a big deal out of celebrating my birthday & this is going to be an unusual way to to it. I'll be 54 & a brand new me is about to emerge. I am nervous, excited & scared. I would of never thought of doing this but I am Type 2 Diabetic now on 2 kinds of insulins. When I tell people I weigh 231 lbs they say, "You do?" I am not ashamed of being large. I just want to get healthy again. I don't want to lose toes, eyesight etc... I have a good surgeon & team in Cambrigde,MA. I also have this website to help me. So that is part of my story for now. My biggest fear is can I do it. Wil…

It's been 3 weeks since my surgery and I've had brief episodes of being light headed. Not a big deal, after all I just had surgery and I feel exhausted most of the time. Well yesterday I took my dog to the vet and while speaking to the vet I had another spell, but this time I totally passed out. I woke up on the floor to the vet asking me if I'm ok. I was so embarrassed and scared at the same time. I've never fainted before. My post op appointment said I had low levels of iron and vitamin D and I am taking medicine for that. Has anyone else experienced this???

Hello, I'm Rebecca and I live in New Zealand. I was thinking of going to India for mine but have since read A LOT of North Americans go to Mexico (I was born in Toronto) so I've changed my mind and going through "alighterme.com" I am going to pay for a friend to come with me but I think cancun or PV look nicer then tijauana but everyone I've heard of goes there? I want her to have a nice time while I'm in the hospital or napping once back at the hotel. It costs a little more but she's doing me a huge favour and taking time off work. Has anyone got any story's of other places in Mexico? Thank you ????

I can finally take a chill pill and start getting things in order before my surgery on April 9, 2013, exactly a week after my 39th bday. I guess this will be the best bday gift to myself . Haven't quite hit me yet, maybe as I get closer to the 9th I'll start freaking out. This online support has been my lifesaver at times and I'm thankful for that. I have read about the good, the bad, and of course the uggglllyyyy! And as we all know each individual is different, however I do look forward to major changes coming my way. I'm not expecting things to change over night, but as long as this dreadful wt comes off I'm good with that. Its not going to be easy, but I'm ready to ta…

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I was banded in April of 2008 & after 14 fills I lost 75 lbs. I got to where I was able to eat more & more & I started gaining weight back. It was like I didn't even have weight loss surgery cause I was following the same pattern I did before the band. Recently I started having stomach pains & gerd. When I finally went to my Dr. he had an endoscopy done & found I had prolasped & my esophigus was inflamed so he did a biopsy. My wife & I met with him on Monday & he said the biopsy came back OK but we needed to select one of the 4 options he had for me. 1. He could empty the band & allow the stomah to go back in …

Hello everyone! I am from California & as I stated had a gastric bypass & am now 6 weeks post op. The main reason for going so drastic was, because I could never get enough weight off to be completely satisfied with myself despite the MANY weight loss programs I've tried in my lifetime! Oh yes, I'd lose but was unsuccessful in keeping it off. I never let myself go over 250 pounds but still being 5'3" this was too much for my body. then the fact that there is diabetes running on our family not to mention high blood pressure well this was enough for me. Given my age & these factors alone was enough to scare me. I have enough back problems and knee problems as it…

I finally told my nosey boss that i was having a 'procedure' done on Monday and now the whole office knows. I only mentioned it to her. I am so embarassed because people are coming up to me asking what am I getting done?!! Another asked how long would i be out. None of your damn business. Isn't some sort of HIPAA violation. Can I sue my employer??? Do I have a case? I should also mention that i never stated that i am having surgery only a 'procedure' but my out of office notice filled out by the surgeons office has Surgical specialist on it..

Ok everybody. I had my 3 week post op appt today. 3 weeks will actually be Friday but so far I'm down 25 lbs! Is that average or should I have lost more? I lost 18 lbs between my pre op and 1st week post op and lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. I hope it goes a little but quicker than 7 lbs in 2 weeks!

I think I posted my intro on the wrong topic area. I am 48, female, from Canada. Weight is 225 and I am 5 foot 4 inches. Getting sleeved on the 25th and yikes ! 1- Lots and lots of question pre-op, going on march 25th, 2013... I know why I am fat. 1/3 is my stomach can stretch and I don't feel full, 1/3 is my body's economical ways, 1/3 is my emotional over eating. The sleeve won't fix the emotional eating but it will make it impossible to do for at least 2 years, I plan to learn new coping mechanisms before my honey moon is over. At least with 2/3 of the problem at bay, I will have a fighting chance to finally win this time. Not that I have not before but the cost w…

With Blind faith and trepidation... I find myself, like many others im sure feeling a sense of trepidation (feelings of fear about something that may happen), but I also have Blind Faith(belief without full understanding) about it.... It's one of those situations that is similar to many of life's obstacles... Or as Randy Pausch would say about Brick Walls... "The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough" ... I find myself in front of a brick wall... and Im in the ro…

Couldn't wait for my mushy food. I had eggs. What a disappointment! Now I'm just mad that I have to wait 15-30 minutes to take a drink of fluid. Couldn't even eat the 4 ounces. Maybe tomorrow I will try cream of wheat. I am scared that I will never be brave enough to eat real food again I'm so careful what to moniter the way I feel and the things I put in my mouth.
