Hello Everyone, I My name is Nicola. I am new to this site and would like to find support and information from others who have, or looking to be sleeved. I am a quiet person and I have been on this journey for over 3 years with having insurance with my previous job but that did not cover WLS, to not having insurance at all now. I have been on this roller coaster for so long that I have decided to self pay this time. I am going to be 50 tomorrow and want to become health, happy, with myself by doing something different. I struggled for so long with yo-yo diets and to only gain every pound back within weeks sometime months. I am looking to be sleeved on March 1, 2013 i…

I'm so afraid to do this and I have surgery scheduled for March 22. I'm afraid because it's a new surgery and there aren't many long term facts about how people fare. I'm a little afraid too because I had a panic attack after having my lapband removed. I'd never had one before and I actually had two after that. I don't have them now. I'm a broken person though and I need fixing. Pretty much out of other options. That's where I am and if it were my heart, I'd have surgery right? What are your thoughts?

194 this morning! Highest weight was 307, day of surgery was 192! I went from size tight 24's to 11/12 jeans and M/L tops! I am loving life! I eat normal, have never thrown up or felt bad! I did lose some hair - but the new growth I have now is amazing - and honestly, the thinning of the hair would never have stopped me from having this life changing surgery! I love crossing my legs, having men rush ahead to open doors, my husband wrapping one arm all the way around me, shopping any where I want, fitting in chairs - all chairs - easily and not worrying if they can hold me! I love that food does not control me - I make my choices! I love that I can have a cupcake …

Ok since surgery I've noticed that my heart is rAcing. It's not constant, it's only when I am doing things. The simplest things, though I notice my heart racing. Taking a shower or even blow drying my hair. Is this normal? Why is this happening ?

I have gone through all of the pre-op requirements, been approved by my insurance company, and have a surgery date of 3/5. It's been a hard journey. At 37, with high blood pressure (been on meds for six years) and high cholesterol, I chose to look into this surgery to live a longer and healthier life, and to get my weight under control once and for all. My BMI is 38. I have three children and want to be around go see their children grow up. My husband has been amazing and supportive. I have an excellent surgeon with a fantastic track record and very low complication rate. I feel like I'll be in excellent hands, but of course I'm still nervous and anxious because …

I was very afraid of having loose skin after the weight loss, however coming into some foresight I now am no longer afraid, you see after the weight loss I will no longer be afraid of high buildings or airplanes, I unlike skinny people will have a natural ability to flow through the air like a flying squirrel.

I have not tried it again i am gonna wait LOL I started going to the gym 7 days after surgery and walking on the tread mill. People have told me how good I am looking ..I just have a tough time seeing it in the mirror. BUT...I see it in my clothes and how big they are getting ..what a great feeling! Hi everyone! Glad to be here. I had my lap band surgery February 8,2011. I haven't lost much weight either. I have finally come to realize that I am the one responsible for my weight loss. No more over eating and not feeling like I have anyone to talk to. I go for my second band fill this Friday, March 8, 2013. I'm ready to start this journey again and do what I am told instead of doing what I want. Please bare with me and offer encouragement....that's what I need!

Well after 3 years of deciding which surgery to have and speaking with my surgeon and dietition numerous times I have decided that the Gastric Bypass is the right way for me to go. This has not been an easy decision for me to make as I am over 55 years old. I have done all my testing and the results have been sent in to my dr. I have had my final meetings with both surgeon and dietition and on Monday March 11th 2013 I will be having my surgery. Needless to say I am very nervous and scared just like so many of you who are about to have this life changing surgery. I have faith in my dr and his team. I have tried so many diets over the years, you name it and I have tir…

Well hi everyone. I asked a couple of questions before posting my hello but since I'm sure I'm going to be doing this surgery I figured I'd be formal and introduce myself. I'm 25 and live in Bloomington, MN. I have been overweight all my life. I've tried pretty much every diet out there, Jenny Craig, WW, Atkins, ketogenic, calorie counting you name it and nothing has worked. I've lost weight and gained it back quickly, usually plus some. About 6 months ago I went to a therapist to discuss other symptoms I was having and diagnosed with binge eating disorder. I've since been in therapy at The Emily Program (http://emilyprogram.com/) and since I feel like I'm coming along…

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and just wanted to intro myself! I was approved for my surgery after participating in a 90 day exercise/nutrition program with my surgeon(per my insurance requirements). Since the start in November I have lost little over 11 lbs. most of which has been this week as my doctor requires you to do all liquids for 14 days prior to surgery. This is so difficult but getting much easier. I am so grateful to have a group to bounce ideas and get feedback and support from. Thank you! So excited for this new phase of life.

I must say I have been so lucky. I have not thrown up at all. I did get burping gas twice which hurt like hell LOL but I work out at the gym 5 to 7 days a week. I follow the diet completely ..I always count my proteins. My vitamins even travel with me should I be out and about. At this time I am almost 35 pounds down and feel amazing with no regrets! I wish everyone could recover the way I have...I still have a long way to go but am extremely so very happy and feel blessed to get this second chance in life:)

Did any one else have a hard time getting in the Water and Protein they needed to post op? I keep saying I'm going to drink my three Protein drinks but I get half way through one and I'm full. I drink water throughout the day but it's not the 50ox they want me getting It's like I don't have enough hours in the day to get all the nutrients I need. I tried using the unjury unflavored protein in my other foods but I can't stomach the taste.

Is anyone a Diabetic and have information and knowledge of the liquid pre op and post op diet and how to do this as a diabetic safely? I am worried as I go into a hypo very easily if I don't eat every three hours. I can't do liquid diets to prepare for procedures nevermind this 2 weeks. Nutritionists must have a way. Any thoughts?

Hello every one. My name is Ohood. I am 30 and new at this, so I don’t know what to do. I had my surgery 11 days ago. I don’t know exactly how I feel, sometimes I am happy that I did it, other times I feel sorry. I feel like I won’t be normal again. I wake up some times full of energy, other times I feel so tried that I just want to stay in my bed.it hurts a lot when I try to drink anything , and I am hungry all the time. I thought that after the surgery I am not supposed to feel hungry. Maybe it’s just in my head, I really don’t know. I lost 5 kilos so far, but I am not happy about it. Sometimes I feel like I am supposed to lose more. Sometimes I say it’s better to l…

My journey began in August when I got a referral to see my lap band doctor. I didn't have the courage to admit something was wrong with my eating and I was just too ashamed to take the "easy" way out. As I learned more about the procedure and spoke to the doctors, the more I realized nothing is easy when it comes to weight loss when you truly enjoy food and don't make changes based upon one's physical activity. I waited until after the holidays and met with my doctor on Jan. 11th. I told no one of this decision not even my husband. I looked into all the appointments and got all the pre-tests that were needed. My immediate family supports me on this and understan…

Ok so my surgery is march 6,2013 I've been on a all liquid diet since feb 18,2013 with the exception of a salad. Since Monday march 4,2013 I've been suffering a horrendous migraine. I'm convinced its my nerves for this upcoming surgery. I don't feel nervous but the way this migraine feels I'm figuring that's it. I've always suffered from migraines they've gotten worse since I was pregnant and found out I have high blood pressure. But now it's like a never ending pain I haven't slept cause it hurt so bad and they don't want me taking aspirin but I had to take some excedrine just now cause that's the only thing that heals my headaches and prayers! Please y'all keep me i…

Well I really need some feed back on this one. Do I begin fertilty treatments or have the surgery first? The problem is the age factor. My ob/gyn has told us because of issues with my husband and my age we would need fertility treatments to have a higher chance of concieving. However, he is not willing to do treatments after 46 years of age and guess who turns 46 this year, ME! He is willing to try 3 cycles which will give me a weight gain of course. The road to surgery is just lacking insurance approval, waiting on me to tell them to submit. If I have the surgery I woudl have to wait a year before we could try and that puts me closer to 48. I have fought thru months o…

It is in and I'm doing better than expected! I would like to share my observations to this point as an RN. First shoudler pain from the gas is bearable for me. Would like it to go away. Body position is everything. Move around, find a spot that is comforable. right side usually, this brings the gas away from the left shoulder. Belly pain is tolerable. I rate mine as a 3, dull consistant ache. Feels like I ate Thanksgiving dinner and I overate. Ask your surgeon if he is able to perform the surgeryvia single incision. Dr Abkin was able to conduct this and I have three instead of 4 or 5 incisions. Of the three the port site is the most sore. ICE POPS ARE THE BOMB! Th…

I admit that 2-3 three years ago, I would have never considered this. My assessment of folks going in for bariatric procedures was that they needed stronger willpower. Of course, this was how I analyzed things as I yo-yo'd back and forth with my own weight. My wife began her journey 2 years ago and has since lost 100 lbs and truly begun to enjoy life more than she already was. I watched over this time frame as she would still occasionally struggle and came to realize that this is not an easy way out or cheating but rather a tool to help achieve an end. So, as I've once again yo-yo'd up to 300lbs, I've taken my first steps toward losing my weight for good. Met with…

Hello All! I have been reading your posts for the last two weeks and decided that it was about time for me to join. I have been considering RNY for several years, but always had one reason (excuse) or another to stop me. Well, it's time to take care of myself now! I went to the information seminar on January 29th, immediately made appointments for colonoscopy and mammogram (my sweet dad passed away on Christmas Eve from lung cancer . ...had colon cancer a few years ago) so my PCP wants to rule that out for me. I had my 1st PCP appointment on 2/6 and will have blood work results back next week. I also have psych appointment scheduled for early March. I am so excited…

Well here is a little bit about myself. I am 28 years old, i stand 6'5" and my heighest weight was 470. I decided to have the surgery as I was on and off diets all my life and was really fed up with it. I decided to try an abroad clinic as a friend of mine tried it too and was very happy with the approach and the results as well. I went to Prague, Czech Republic to a clinic called Medical Travel Czech. Everything was great, they took care of me and I was informed the whole time about what was going to happen. Surgery went very smoothe. Woke up and was walking within an hour. Honestly I thought it would be a lot more painfull. I had the usual gas pain but walking helped. …

Hi Everyone! New to this site and the community here. What I've read so far leads me to believe I'm in the right place. I'm encouraged just reading the other posts. My surgery is scheduled for March 19th. I've been trying to get this scheduled since October. A 'miscommunication' between my surgeon's coordinator and my insurance company created the long delay. Long story, it's over, and I'm on the schedule now so I'm happy. I've been overweight my whole life. Genetically predisposed, I guess, growing up in an Italian family where every occasion was marked with celebratory consumption of massive amounts of food with every member of the family present and bringing…

My surgery is scheduled for 1:30 this afternoon. Fear and self-doubt are rearing their ugly heads. What if this doesn't work for me? A lifetime if unsuccessful yo-yo dieting has left me wondering if I'll ever get my weight under control. But I'm hopeful that this tool will help me get to a healthy weight for the first time since elementary school. Today my amazing and supportive husband is going to take some dreaded "before" pictures for me, as well as my measurements. Hope to be able to post some "after" pictures in a few months!! This forum has been a great source of information, inspiration and support. Thanks everyone : )
