Hi everyone..My name is Kari and I am 51 years old. I've been trying to get approved to have the surgery for over a year now and finally just got the approval on Monday! I am excited and nervous at the same time..My surgery date is April 2nd. Last year when I first decided to get the surgery I had decided on the lap band, since that time after further discussions with my surgeon and reading these boards I have now decided on getting the sleeve..I hope I am making the right decision. My family isn't very supportive of my decision on the sleeve instead but I'm hoping this decision is right for me.They can't understand why I would want to remove part of my stomach if I don't…

Could NOT be happier with my choice of hospitals or surgeons. He said everything went flawlessly. Was expecting mild to moderate liver enlargement, but thanks to a 70+ pound weight loss before surgery that was not even a factor. Slowly feeling better each day. Be patient and listen to your pouch!!! Jeff

Surgery was done yesterday at 10:30. I'm glad it's over with my I'm still in quite a bit of pain. I feel very weak and shaky. I have a morphine PCA pump but when I start moving, i'm hurting pretty bad. I haven't had any gas pains at all though. Just sharp pain but even that is going away slowly. I'm so glad I did this. This is the beginning of my new life!

So, my wlj started in October of last year. I applied for a gastric plication study and was denied due to a discovery of a few SMALL gallstones. I had researched extensively and was so bummed (or depressed) when they told me i had been disqualified. My insurance doesn't cover any form of wls, and there was no way (I thought) I could ever afford any weight loss surgery on my own. I have tried EVERY single diet ever, I swear... the latest being the hcg diet. It worked, but I gained most of my weight back once I stopped taking the injections. One night, it hit me to research the gastric plication in Mexico. Low and behold, I found that it was actually in my reach (finan…

I'm in the pre-op phase. Thought this might be the right WLS solution for me. However, I'm reading all these horror stories about leaks, stents, acid reflux, not being able to eat at all. Now, I'm scared to death. On the other hand, I'm 5'10" and way 294, the highest I've ever been. Have no will power and, at 55, don't think I will find it now. Should be at goal weight of 160. That's why I'm looking at WLS. What is typical life like after being sleeved? Is it worth the risks????

Hi, I was banded early Feb so im a few wks post op. Trying to learn to eat more proteins and stay full. Eating lots of fish, eggs, and chicken for dinner and lunch with shake for breakfast. Feels pretty much the same as pre-surgery so dr said might get fill next visit. Seems very early to me but Im often hungry and do want results. I'm down about 20 lbs since my pre surgery diet-so most pre-op weight loss. Any suggestions or tips? Im just about ready to begin exercise so im hoping that kicks it into gear.

I am not sure why I came here right now. I am actually packing for my trip tomorrow while my son is in the bath tub. Today seems like any other day really, except well I am done work for 3 weeks, I am leaving my family tomorrow to go to San Diego and on Friday I am having surgery... The strangest part is.... yes I am scared.. so scared.. complications, seriously not waking up and PAIN.. I worry breathing wont be comfortable or that I will regret it. I am however very nervous about this surgery because of the rerouting, that REALLY freaks me out!! Please share ur thoughts and comments about this procedure. I wanted to do the sleeve but my Dr. Has not started it and not sure when he will. I had "gotten comfortable" with my decision on the sleeve but know I am changing. Thanks in advance for …

We have chosen Dr. Kim at Florida Hospital Celebration! We meet with his nurse practitioner tomorrow to see which medical clearances we need! Hopefully we will get our surgery dates soon! I am loving this forum....all the support and encouragement is great! I will keep y'all posted throughout my journey! Keep those before/after pics coming because those are keeping me motivated :-)

I am a 51-year-old male, married with 3 children and I live in Virginia. After years of promising my doctor that I would lose the weight, it is evident that my only option is WLS. As my hypertension slowly developed, I said I will do it. Once I developed severe hypertension, he warned me that I could develop Type II diabetes, I said I will do it. As my hypertension became more pronounced and my diabetes began to worsen and I excruciatingly had my back go out with three herniated discs, I SCREAMED I WILL DO IT! I have watched my weight continue to rise over the years from around 180 lbs in 1983 to my current all-time high of 266 on my 5'7" frame. I am a healthcare worke…

I had my original band about 25 years ago: It worked for a while and then I became a gym junkie, lost heaps more weight, it eventually all went back on when I did cartlidge damage to my leg and the band and I co-existed for many years. A couple of my friends had the lapband surgery and it was easy, successful and seemed the answer, I had my original band removed about 3 years ago and the lapband inserted. For me, it was never successful, I was mostly uncomfortable, could not get the fill right and only lost about 6kgs over the entire time. A couple of months ago I felt as though I had a virus then I had trouble with my tummy, it felt really tight and I was just unwell,…

This book is AWESOME and such an easy read. Al is very amusing in the way he tells his gastric bypass journey. Even though we are all having or have had the sleeve, this story is so inspirational and fits us all in such a personal way. I got it on my Nook Book http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/0451414934

Hi. Im a new member. I had my vertical sleeve on Valentine's Day. So i guess I am 10 days post op. I have a lot of questions. At my 1 week appointment I had lost 18 pounds. I am now down 23 pounds. I haven't lost any weight in three days. I kinda feel on my own as far as diet goes. I got no real instruction on to how much of anything I should be consuming. I was just told to start on creamy liquids. Like soups ,milk, Puddings and things like that. I know im not getting in enough protien.? What should I be eating? How much liquids? For 3 days i had really bad diarrhea. Is that normal? Im also experienceing some new pain what feels like its under my rib cage. Is that norma…

Hello everyone, my name is Cindy. I am scheduled for the Lap-band on 03.07.13. I am in day 4 of my pre-op diet. I searched for a forum just like this one to help me with support and information. I would also like to encourage others on their journey as well. I'm not very good at reaching out to other, and this is one of my downfalls, so I've been told. I have been overweight most of my 50 years on this earth. Like many others I'm sure this has been a yo-yo syndrome. My starting weight is 324 and my current weight is 311.4. I would love to meet new people with whom I can build a supporting and loving relationship. My husband and family are great supporters, but I would …

Hi all! I was sleeved Friday 2/22 and was discharged from hospital today. It's been a rough couple of days. Although the pain is much better now, all you sleevers must prepare yourself for pain. You will be full of gas and be very sore. It is not comfortable at all trying to sleep! Everyone reacts differently from surgery. Unfortunately I was very nauseous and was throwing up the first day. It was hard to hold Down jello or tea or anything! I did not really take much morphine due to the nauseousness however I did get relief from different meds! The first 2 days are the worst! Just waiting for my post op drs appt on Thursday!

Hello! I am new to this forum and I am so excited to have found a community of people who are on the same journey as me! I am nine weeks post surgery and have lost a total of 50 pounds. This has not been an easy journey for me. For 14 days post op I could get nothing in except water and only minimal at that. I should have been rehospitalized but it was Christmas and I refused to go to the hospital! I had to work closely with my doctor and dietician to get through it and am doing much better. Eating is still a struggle for me and I find myself having to often force myself to eat and trying new foods is also a challenge. I am terrified of trying bread! However, I a…

I have been preparing for surgery Wednesday bought all my Vitamins, Protein drinks etc. And then I went through my closet and drawers. I threw away everything I hated and had to wear becuase it would fit. I threw away most of the black, stretchy, anything that wasnt my style but comprimised to wear because it fit. Feels so liberating! It is mentally preparing me for success and the good road ahead. I actually got rid of 2 large trash bags. I have been raising kids and accepting the fact that I am a mom and everyone else is first, I have been sleep deprived for 17 years..lol I dont really buy my self anything nice to wear, instead I find my enjoyment in shopping for …

I had my surgery on June 5th, 2012. I have lost over 125 lbs. so far and feel the best I have in yrs. Although the first few weeks after surgery were an adjustment, I wouldn't change my decision for anything. I have gone farther with my weight loss than I dreamed that I could. I can now fit into booths, wear clothing that is from a regular store, sleep without a c-pap machine, walk without getting winded, workout at the gym without feeling self-conscious, my skin cleared up (prob from not eating junk anymore), and I have more confidence than I have had in years which is the best feeling of all.

I am a week away from being 3 months Post-op. I have stuck to my NUT recommendations pretty closely. Today I was immersed in homework. Before I realized it 3pm & I hadn't eaten anything & I didn't have anything in the house. I decided to order a salad to be delivered from my local Italian place. Last minute I added on garlic bread with mozzarella & a side of sauce. My delivery came. I put the salad in the fridge & went to town on the garlic bread. This is the 1st time that I've had bread since surgery. I ate 4 pieces of bread dipped in sauce. I immediately felt like my sleeve was super tight & yucky so, I tried to drink a few sips of water. It was like…

I was just getting around after my 9 am surgery. The minute I woke up, I thought (and said out loud) what in the heck did I just do to myself? I was in so much pain and so so thirsty. A friend had told me - even if you don't feel like it - get up and walk. That's what I did, almost non stop. I was ready to feel better and go home. Each day got easier and easier, I tracked everything I put in my mouth. Everything. It made me feel like I had some control over what I was going through. Over time I started getting compliments, you look great or wow you've lost some weight. I look back now and yes, I had lost weight. What I think was so noticeable though was I was smiling - …

Hello everyone I am now 8 weeks out from surgery and settling into a routine. Surgery was on 12/26/2012 and I haven't looked back. I started the whole process at 257 pounds. Lost 9 pounds during the 2 week pre-op diet and that put me at 248 the day of surgery. I had a pretty easy road and had no issues with the surgery or recovery. I read this forum every single day and got a lot of good tips from those who have been there before me. I learned that you need to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk so that's what I did. I was able to recognize what was happening when it happened because I read about it before I got to the hospital. I knew I was going to ha…
