So I guess I'm starting my new journey today. I had the realize band put on in August of 2008. I had put on about 100lbs in a 2 year period from 2004 - 2006 after having knee surgery. I was really struggling and had high hopes for the band. After 4 years of problems I finally had it removed along with my gall bladder in October 2012. My doctor that removed the band was a different one than the one that put it in and he is wonderful. So I meet with him today to follow-up on my October surgery and to tell him that I have made the decision to move forward with VSG....eeeekkkk scary. After my experiences with the band I am very scared to have another surgery but I need help a…

I live in Scotland UK and have followed all your posts for weeks appreciating all your honest stories which have been informative and crucial in preparing me for my op and a glimpse of what to expect afterwards. I am now 6 days post operative and doing very well no problems EXCEPT I do get head hunger a lot. I have a family and am back to cooking the food we used to all sit down and enjoy together but I know what the stuff tastes like and yesterday I was in such a mood all day and I am sure it was due to food depravation. Although I am on a liquid diet I cannot say I have felt full although I have felt satisfied but this fullness that is often mentioned on this forum is …

Contrary to what I'd thought before surgery, having the sleeve was NOT a breeze. I awoke with horrible nausea that took hours upon hours to get under control. I wish the anesthesiologist had listened to me when I told him I had a history of post op n/v The gas pains were far worse than any of the incisional pain. Walking did relieve most of that for me. I went home the next day around 1pm. I really wish I had a hospital bed here at home! Those side rails were a gift from God! I have a really tall bed, unfortunately. I find that lying on my sides is easier than lying on my back, but I'm unable to get comfortable no matter how I lay. I can't wait until all this …

Hello, I'm Danielle and I am one of the MANY people who need to have a revision surgery. I had my band put in in July 2009. There were many ups and downs but I landed in the 40% EWL category. I still had 90lbs to go, but after discussing it with a different bariatric surgeon... He broke the news to me: (+)65% of all Lap Bands will fail in the first 6 years, and his case load carries more then 90 revisions a year. I was relieved to hear that it wasn't "Me" who failed; it was the band that failed. You see... I have a DIRE need to lose my weight. I have no co-morbidities, however, at 32 years old I have had 2 major back surgeries. In August 2012, I had a spinal fus…

I am dying on the pre op diet! I am getting sleeved on the 22nd and have to do the pre op diet for 2 weeks. I've been having protein shake and oatmeal for breakfast, shake and raw veggies for lunch and grilled chicken and Lots of veggies for dinner. For a snack nonfat Greek yogurt or sugar free pudding or jello. I'm still hungry though! What had everyone else been having on their pre op?!

I just started getting a new pain in my stomach area. I was sleeved on Dec 26 2012. I dont know if it is acid or a problem that is worse but it is starting to get annoying. It is when I eat and between meals and it comes and goes I havent been taking my acid reducer like I am supposed to,, but not sure if that could be it. I dont have any other weird symptoms, just this!!!!

So I went in for my first consult in mid January, had my psylogical evaluation the end of January. My docotors office submitted my case to insurance last Tuesday and I was approved on Wednesday! Went in today for a meeting with the LapBand coordinatier today! I have a surgery date of February 27 and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. I am so excited, yet so nervous at the same time. Can you tell me how you all survived your 2week liquid fast????

My strange addiction that should be put on tv is the fact that I like getting my stomach cut out and telling other ppl to do it. Even if their skinny. It doesn't matter what age, I even went up to a baby and explained to it that it's healthy. I even went to dog park and consulted with a shitzu. It's gotten very bad. I feel that I should be the poster child! With my cute mug.

  20. I had my surgery on Jan. 15th. I've lost 17 lbs since surgery, and 25 since starting the prep diet. It was coming off at about a lb a day and now I'm definitely in a stall! I have started a 90 day challenge at my gym and my trainer told me he is betting that I will win because of my surgery advantage... I didn't have the heart to tell him I haven't lost a single lb in a week! He is confusing me about how much I should be eating. Basically he thinks my calories should be no lower than 1000 and my protein needs to be at 120 minimum! I just laughed at him since I can barely get in 60 grams of protein and less than 600 calories. Anyone else feeling more confused after …

Hi Everyone out there! How do you look at holidays different now that you have had the sleeve? The one thing that I noticed is that we as a group of people ALWAYS celebrated ALL holidays with food—I bet if you think about it, you know I am right. For most of us food was our addiction—at least it was mine. You know with an addiction you have to give up what the addiction was—how do you give up food? We all need to eat. So for each holiday we gave ourselves permission to indulge in more food. Looking back in my past this is just what I did and with the lack of much physical activity I just kept packing on more fat on my poor body. How about you? Did you or do you s…

Today I weigh 205 I cannot say I'm the most optimistic person on planet right now. Got my vitamins yesterday and I am repulsed by the thought of taking those forever. Also my biggest concern and main reason I got on here is this... I was under the impression that the appetite hormone ghrelin would be gone with the 70% of my stomach they removed. I also understood it would come back after about a year, which sucked, but I came to terms with it. BUT.... It is so not gone! I totally get…

Hello all! What are the TOP 3 THINGS that you've "reeped", experienced, enjoyed, after your WLS that you DID NOT even think about pre-op? For example, you may say for #1 that "I can now bend my legs behind my head & I never thought I'd want to do that". (I couldn't think of a better example, sorry! lol!) The challenge here will be to only list 3 things, but if you just can't hold it in...go for it & list away! I can't wait to see what the responses will be. :-)

I am scared because I have a 2 and to 6 year old....so of course this increases my anxiety. I hope by having the best surgeon in Dr. Hoehn that I am in great hands. Any words of wisdom from lower bmi (36.5) weight loss? Also on how toto speed the recovery process?

I haven't been here in a while so thought I would stop in, say HI and catch everyone up. I went in for surgery on 12/18. At the beginning of the surgery, my heart beat went out of control and I went into v-tach with my heartrate at 180 bpm. They stopped surgery, closed me up (only one incision had been made) and sent me to cath lab. Luckily, I had no blockages, plaque, disease or damage. They have no idea what happened. I was on a heart monitor for 2 weeks and that showed nothing so the cardiologist released me for surgery. I again in went in for surgery on 1/28 and it was a success this time. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery. I was on liquids until this pas…

I haven't really been checking my weight except for maybe once week. Well, I stepped on the scale after work and it showed me 2 pounds up. I tried not to panic, took a deep breath and was down two pounds. I breathed a sigh of relief and told myself that I wasn't going to check again until a full week had passed. Well, I didn't. I checked and I was only down a pound. I know I don't take in 1,000 calories a week. I am recently sleeved. What is going on? Shouldn't I be dropping weight like mad now? Is this a dreaded stall…

Hello All, The decision to be banded came to me after my father's death. Though not weight related, my father's death made me look at my own mortality. I have been heavy all my life. You know the story..... the stigma, the teasing, the heartache, Blah, Blah, Blah. I was able to lose 120 lbs when I was in my twenties. Felt great, ran 2 miles a day, worked out and quit smoking. Got married and life changed, Instant kids, school stuff, working second shift as a nurse, moving up the administrative ladder and quit smoking the second time. I have been smoke free since 2000. The weight however crept upon me. Over the past 12 years I gain at least 10 lbs a year. This slow…

I debated having this surgery many times and attempted to lose weight on my own. I would lose and gain and gain and lose.
