3 months out and I'm down 45 pounds. I know it's not as much as a lot of people but I am happy with it. I am gaining a lot of muscle working out 4x a week and running 2.5 miles 3 to 4x a week. The first pic was taken a week b4 surgery and the other pic was taken of me trying on my wedding dress 2 weeks ago for my wedding in May. I hope when I take the next pic in my dress ill be down at least another 20 pounds down!!

Hey Everyone! I almost forgot to make a "five months out" post! I figured out how to put pictures side by side on my computer and it wasn't until I looked at the pictures side by side that I thought WOW. I barely recognize the person in the pictures five months ago. My life has been given back to me. I just turned 23 a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with where I am in life. I started my full-time internship for occupational therapy the day after my birthday and I feel like I have way more confidence than I had in my previous internships. I feel healthy and energized when I go to work. I really think getting this surgery was the best decision I could hav…

Try not to laugh at the pic to much...but just the fact that I don't need to hoist my computer up overhead to take an angled down pic to hide my double chins is another non scale victory for me! Hi, my name is Lacey. I'm 25 years old and am beginning the process to get sleeved! I have at least 110 pounds I want to lose. Currently I weigh 270 and am 5'5''. I am married and have a 17 month old son. Fortunately my family is mostly supportive of my decision. They are a little worried but ultimately stand behind what I want to do. I am attending a seminar on Monday Feb 11 and will hear from a counselor about setting up my consult after that. I'm excited and nervous but ready to change my life!

I had my surgery on August 22nd, so I am a little over 4 months post op. This summer at 5'3 my consultation weight in July was 231 lbs and I am now 155 lbs - putting me down 76 pounds! YAY! I try to post monthly and this time when I was coming up with a picture to post I was just looking at pictures of my boyfriend and I from the summer. I think about how I felt this summer in pictures (insecure and uncomfortable) and how I feel now (confident and energetic) and I'm just very grateful. I've really appreciated his support throughout this process and looking at the pictures just made me feel grateful that I've had such a great support system, not just in him but in m…

  16. I thought I'd share my experience of getting the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on March 12th, 2012. I will spare no detail and will let you all know exactly what I went through and how I am doing today. If you are reading this and haven't been sleeved yet, then I would assume that you 1: Have decided to get sleeved and are waiting for your date to arrive 2: Want to get sleeved but can't afford it just yet or can't get the time off for surgery and recovery 3: Are curious but worried about pain or complications 4: Simply looking for alternatives to gastric bypass or the band. I should have plenty of information here to assist you in your "journey". I must admit that it…

Hi! After lurking for the past few weeks, I wanted to introduce myself. I went to an informational session recent and have my first meeting with my surgeon February 6th. I have been overweight since high school. I'm a wheelchair user which likely is partly the reason (limited exercise). I don't actually even know what I weigh because my PCP has never been able to weigh me! They will weigh me during my first appointment. Trying to decide between the sleeve and bypass. I'd love to know why people chose the sleeve. Looking forward to getting to know you all on this journey!

Hello I am new to the board. My story is this ...I am in the process of deciding which surgery to have . I have a surgeon and he is very good. Waiting on insurance and wont have the surgery until May or June . I am 48 , 49 in a few weeks male. I lost a lot of weight in my lifetime . I weighed as much as 419 pounds back in the late eighties. I now weight around 290. Sounds good But decieving. I list weight on weight watchers and was down to 260 a couple if years ago. The weight wants to come back. My choices are the lap band or the sleeve. My surgeon thinks I should do the sleeve. I cant decide. Please any help with peoples opinions would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm new to postings. I've been banded about 18 months. I started off @272lbs and now about 230 lbs. I have gained about 10 lbs since my last office visit before Thanksgiving. I currently throw-up if I eat anything like meat or bagels and I seem now to gravitate toward softer foods. My exercise has been down lately due to high workload. I don't know if I should go back in to get adjusted tighter and need I some feedback. Thanks Mark

  21. I have been carrying this around for 2 days and I have to get it off my chest! People and their comments can cause some frustartion. I am taking all the steps to get approval for sleeve surgery hopefully by March Spring Break time. So I have decided that I am only sharing this decision with my husband and 1 co-worker until day of surgey I might tell siblings and mother. Just discovered on Tuesday after my EGD that I have chronic active gastritis and peptic esophagitis all from GERD and the hiatal hernia that was discovered. I must admit that I have been on an emotional roller coaster about my decision to have the surgery. I have been surprised at the mental process taking…

Just goes to show you go through the whole gamut of emotions before the big day but I am so ready now!!! I'm excited and ready to move on to the next half and the better half of my life. For all of you who have supported me the past 5 weeks thank you from the bottom of my heart. I couldn't have done this without you all. I'm 5 months post op and in the midst of my first real stall. I'm a slower loser to begin with, so it's making me nervous. I was sleeved August 6th in San Diego. I weighed 235 pre-op and I weigh 182 today. So, 53lbs gone. I'm thrilled but I'm trying to get to 145. I work out with a trainer, but I'm thinking I need to step up the cardio, fluids, and cut back on the carbs a bit (even though I don't eat many). Any other suggestions??

I had my surgery on November 27th. It has been a struggle to say the least. I know many of you have read my posts & given me support throughout these first steps of my journey, So, I wanted to share my success so far with you. I am down 51 pounds. My BMI is 7 points lower. My shirt size has gone from a 34 to a 26/28. My pants have gone from a tight 32 to a comfortable 26. Even at my dress shoes are too big. The shoes are a funny story. I hardly ever wear dress shoes so I only have 1 pair. I needed them for a wedding reception last weekend. As I was walking up the stairs at the reception & my foot came up & my shoe stayed on the stair. I stepped right out of it…

I was always in denial about my weight unfortunately and all my friends were too which didn't help! I had always been a *little* bigger/heavier than everybody else my age (I'm 25 now). But because it was only a little I never worried about it. I stayed below 165 throughout my undergrad (although I went in at 130!). It also didn't help that I've always been the smallest in my family - most of my cousins were 200-400. It wasn't until I gained almost 30 pounds in my first year of grad school resulting in stretch marks on my belly that I realized I was farther gone than I'd wanted to be! I've never been able to lose weight (even after a 4-month long summer veggie/protein…

I think I have totally solved my problem of finding a shake out there that is good!! I bought the biggest loser vanilla protein powder, 12 gm/2 scoops, 1/2 cup skim (4gm) and then I added a squeeze of Hershey's chocolate syrup, and a pinch of mint extract!! 16gm for 4 oz (which is all I can do at a time), I also bought orange extract to make a dreamcicle shake.........I know we all get frustrated with the shake thing in finding something good, be creative!!

Is it like flue nausea? I am almost second guessing myself on doing this because I'm so concerned about it.

When I first started this process I really appreciated hearing peoples experiences (good and bad), so I thought I would return the favor. About 1 1/2 years ago I had an abnormal mammogram and it really scared me. 3 big contributers to breast cancer are drinking, smoking, and obesity. I quit drinking and smoking immediately and made an appt with the lap band surgeon. Tomorrow will be 1 year since I had my band placed. I consider the band to be a complete success. This morning I weighed in at 151.8. My highest weight was 270 lbs. I was 250 when I first met with the surgeon, 231 after the 6 month supervised diet, 218 on the day of surgery (after 2 weeks of liquid prote…

Do you realize what progress we are making with each & every pound we lose? It is easy to lose perspective. I am down 52 pounds in 2 months & all I have been able to think is 190 or so more to go. At a family dinner tonight I was informed by my 7 year old nephew that he now weighs 46 pounds. He is proud of this as he is growing tall & strong! I picked him up & he was HEAVY. It made my back & shoulders hurt to hold him. He thought that I was being awfully silly since I really only pick up & carry around his youngest sister who is 2. All the kids got a good laugh. I just thought, "Dear Lord, I've lost 6 more pounds than this 7 year old child weighs".…

Hi all, I'm new here and already have gained tons of information you guys are great. I just got my surgery date 2/26/13. My doctor requires a ten lb weight loss before surgery so as to reduce the fat in the liver. I didn't that in a month, three months ago. Problem is I hurt my shoulder and ended up with a torn rotor cuff and torn bicep. Had surgery 1 1/2 months ago to repair. During that time I gained the ten lbs back. Now he made me promise to lose ten lbs before surgery on the 26th. He wasn't going to schedule me because of it and I pretty pleased him to death so he gave in. I am hoping I can keep that promise.
