Greetings! I have been on here for a few months now researching the lapband. I have found out so much good information and inspiring stories. I have been contemplating the surgery for some time now but I am terrified of anesthesia. I have never had surgery before. I am at a point where I need this. My weight has gotten out of control and I need some help. It's affecting me in every way. I'm ready to make a change. Now that I have insurance what is my first step? I have bcbs... Can I go straight to a weight loss doctor? Do I find a pcp? I'm ready to get this show on the road ! Also, I am in Houston and need a great surgeon...how long is the surgery? Do they stick a tube …

I thought i was all done and i have been to the nutrionist 3 times and on the 6th of February it'll be my fourth one. So this is my first post. I'm new to all this forum stuff and I'm still trying to figure things out. Up until a couple of days ago I was in the process of getting a band, but now my surgeon feels that the sleeve is the best option. I would love any tips, advice, or stories any of you might have! Thanks

Starting the liquid diet today. Surgery Feb 13. I'm worried that I will forever drink/eat too fast! Shake went down like nothing. I'm full. No issues really, but I can't figure out how slow is the right slow for later.

I am new to this forum as well. I was sleeved by Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana on 1-14-12. I have lost 30 pounds; 21 of that pre-op. Dr. Ortiz has you on nothing but liquids for 21 days. I am so hungry, bored with the few soups out there that you can "drink". I'm even tired of my protein drinks. Any ideas to get through this post-op nightmare is greatly appreciated. God Bless.

Hi, My name is Lisa. I live in Michigan and work as a Bariatric Center Manager and Certified Group Support Leader. I am married and have 2 children, a step daughter and 2 grand children by marriage. My husband didnt want me to have surgery because he didnt want to chance losing me on the table. He went to one of our informational sessions so I could explain why this is important to me. I want to be around!!! And with the weight I am carrying, my time here will be shortened. He understood and is now one of my biggest supporters. I am blessed. I had the Lap Band done in 2008. I had complications, my port moved which meant second surgery. From the beginning it was…

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and wanted to drop in and say hello and introduce myself. I'm Shelia and I was banded on November 21, 2012 by Dr. Kenneth Hollis in Houston Texas. So far I've lost 43lbs. I'm still trying to adjust to the changes that come with lapband. I joined the site in hopes to learn from others through their experience, and hope I can help others in turn through my experience.

Okay, couldn't wait to get off full liquids! But I notice I can't eat as much real food as the liquids. Even though I wasn't eating but 1/2 cup it feels like now I can only eat 1/4 each meal. I don't feel full, but I feel it stick in my chest when I have had enough. How am I going to be able to have some protein and veggies in the same meal? Does it get better? Any answers or ideas would be great:)

I have a set date the 20 of feb. I am now extremely a nervous reck . When they explained to me today that I will have a tube in me 4 seven days my stomach literally touched my ribs. Lol! I'm ready willing and able to make the change. I do have a question how does that drainage tube feel ? Also why do 97% of sleevers all say they wake up with a pain in the left shoulder ? I was banded in March of 2011 and have lost 75 pounds since then. Last Thursday I attempted to eat some refried beans and almost immediately I began getting sick. I had been getting sick a lot lately and had gone in the day before and had my band deflated to try and get myself together. This would be my last attempt with the band. The pain got worse and the vomiting and dry heaving would not let up. The doctor that deflated my band the day before just happened to call and check on me during this ordeal and he advised me to meet him at the ER and the odds were that I would be admited for surgery. I went to the ER and he had orders waiting so they quickly drew my labs and g…

Hi everyone! I stumbled upon this site as I was trying drifting around the web, trying to ease my nerves. I am scheduled for lap band in mid- feb. live in CT and I have been refusing to even consider surgery for at least 8 years. This summer, i watched my son take his first surfing lessone. Next to him in the ocean was a woman who was older than me, learning to surf. That is when I started to seriously consider this. BY November I was sure. I have cleared all hurdles and now await my procedure. I have told a few friends and co-workers and their reactions have upset me a bit. ' You don't need that!" " You're gonna puke constantly!" " You are curvy, not FAT!" SO little u…

After a long process, and being denied from my insurance company, I thought it would never happen for me. After thinking about it for a month I decided to do an appeal. on Christmas when I went to get the mail at my place after spending the break with my family, I came home to the best letter. They approved the surgery. Yay!!!! I had everything all done that when I called the first of this month, my doctors office scheduled me for the 16th. Omg it's next week. I'm really nervous and I don't know many people who have had the surgery. I'm afraid I will forget the things I've learned. Nervous but def excited!

Well, the scale doesn't lie... Its telling me I'm at 344... Its not where I want to be but its the highest I'm going. PERIOD! I have been looking into getting banded for several years now and last year I finally got the recommendation from my endocrinologist to have the surgery done. Well, long story short once I contacted my insurance (Anthem BC/BS) I was advised that it wasn't covered at all. This deterred me and I have spent three past year battling it out on my own. Now lets fast forward to the past few weeks. I have found out that my primary doctor recommended new get the procedure and the best news of all is the band is supposed to be covered 100% with by my work…

Hi all! I am scheduled for surgery on Feb. 5. I am having the surgery here in my native DR. Even though we are a 3rd world country, I am having my procedure done with the best of the best, and am totally confident in my doctor. I think this is the kind of procedure that you dont look for deals with. The only thing that kind of scares me is the drainage tube they leave in after surgery. YIKES. I hope to be of support to all of you!

My name is Jessica I live in Texas I had the gastric sleeve surgery done two weeks ago today. I also had a hiatal hernia that had to be fixed lets just say it was a very rough recovery for me for the first 5 days. I am doing much better now. I am still trying to figure how much I can eat and different ideas on what to eat. I have lost 17lbs so far some days I don't loose anything which I get disappointed about but I know it will eventually come off. I look forward to talking with many of you and getting lots of info. I tried to find some pictures but sadly enough I can't find any right now I would also be the one taking the pictures because I didn't want to be in the pic…

Hello everyone! First I have to say, I am so glad I have found this forum. I tried using this app on my Ipad but I had trouble trying to post. Anyway, I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on January 9, 2013 approximately a few days later I had to return to the hospital because they found an infection (liquid and a blood clot in my stomach which caused a lot of pain) My transition into my new life has been a little rough so far, I have lost 22lbs so far, but I am feeling a little discouraged and having some regrets. I am in stage 2 (puree foods) and having difficulties keeping little things down like eggs, Water and even my Protein Shake that I so loved before the operati…

I had Lap-Band Surgery four weeks ago. It seems like eternity since I started this journey. I am up to eating mushy/solid foods with broth. I am eating much less now since the food is staying in the pouch. About every other day or so, I forget to chew something, even a tiny little squishy turkey meatball the size of a small olive, something gets stuck and it hurts so bad I feel like I want to pass out. Insofar I have managed to prevent doing this in public by not eating anywhere public or unsafe. The first few times I got something stuck, I spent the rest of the day in bed, just wrecked. I had a scare a few weeks ago when I thought I had a port infection and ende…

I am 10 months post op and am down 130lbs but I've stalled. I have found myself eating the wrong things and even telling myself the same thing I did before surgery. "I'll do better tomorrow." Problem is tomorrow never comes. I starting to feel like I have failed and I have no one to blame but myself. Has anyone had these problems? If so, how do you get past them? Thanks

So I have been on this site for awhile but have never posted. I am now posting because I feel I need a group of people behind me. I have been struggling with my weight since I was 5. So being overweight is nothing new to me. I am at my highest weight right now of 380. I hate to even write that down let alone let someone know how much I weigh. I have never told anyone how much I weigh not even my husband. My weight is an everyday battle at this point. I go to the mall with friends and they want to go to places like Charlotte Russe and I always feel like I am the fat girl that can only buy shoes and earrings. I never even glance at the clothing in the stores. But after awh…

Well, apparently I joined here back in June but never posted anything, don't remember that, but here we go. I'm 28, I've been overweight since birth, 12 pound butterball. Played all the typical big boy sports and filled the typical big boy roles throughout my school years. Now, a married father of 3, with aspirations of becoming a patrol officer for the department I currently work for, it was time to jump ship from conventional wisdom and methods as my blood work was getting worse, family history started to bleed over in to my history, thyroid was jacked, metabolism in the crapper, I turned to lap band, and Dr. Kim here in Texas. I've always been active, I work ou…

Hi , I've hit 47 pounds and I'm stuck, actually go up a pound and down a pound. This makes me so nervous!!! Nothing scares me more than the thought of gaining a single ounce. My surgery was Nov. 14th and I feel so good now! But being stuck at 187 (was 235 when I started) scares me!!! Someone said that it could be from working out and that my body is trying to adjust. I do also notice that I am able to eat a little bit more than I could before, but I'm NOT eating bad things. What if I don't lose another pound?! OMG I'm so nervous. Can anyone out there help me get through this?

I had my sleeve surgery on July 10th of 2011. I started at 454 lbs its kinda hard to imagine but 1 1/2 years later I still at 264 lbs And for someone that is 6'6" tall I feel pretty good where I'm at. I have allot of lose skin especially around my tummy area. I'm hoping to find a workout friend someone who has been through similar circumstances, be it man or woman just a friend to work out with would be nice. Anyone in or around Renton WA.

Has anyone had any issues with reflux or indigestion since they have been sleeved? Sometimes it feel like my food just doesn't go down or it wants to revisit my throat. I went back to work today and had that feeling all day. I ate one and sucked on water all day. I know I didn't get all my fluids or proteins in but the night is still young. All morning I just had that feeling of the food just sitting there. I called my doctor and he prescribed prilosec. Anyone else taking this.

Hey ladies, my name is Sandra and this is my first post. I just had surgery on Thursday, so far recovery has been going pretty smooth, incisions dont hurt too horribly as long as I keep off certain angles and dont wear "real pants" hahaha. The most annoying thing so far is the left shoulder pain. Its even more annoying knowing that its a referred pain and theres really no reason why my shoulder should be hurting and nothing really seems to make it go away (started using a heating pad on it tonight and it seems to help a little). I havent really been hungry, and when i do feel a lil hunger strike I have been drinking chix or beef broth which makes it go away. I had one…

It is now January 2013 and i am 21 at beyond my goal weight. Thanks to family and friends. I will never regret having my sleeve done but i cant say id do it again. I have had so many health issues and mental issues from this sugery. Although, I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to have this experience... I didnt go about it the right way. I was 215lbs when i was 18 so my insurance didnt cover any WLS. I went to Tijuana Mexico. The experience was something I never expected to ever happen to me. But i wi…

I was 246 when I started this process, it took a bit to get to my pre surgery goal weight. But I did and then some. The day of surgery I weighed 199.5, I was thrilled to finally see a "1"..surgery went well!! 10 days out I weigh 190, I feel like things are going to well. I am struggling with the feeling of constipation! Ewww.. However, I think it is the protien drink I am drinking. I walk every day for 20 to 30 minutes. I am feeling a strained or maybe like my right side incision is hard something inside. I am afraid to do to much! In the hospital I sware I tore my right side twice. I can drink rather fast and eat kinda fast too. I wonder if that is normal?? I also wonder…
