  1. Started by Chris A,

Hey all, I joined a little while ago and have sort of lurked about reading threads leading up to my surgery. I was banded yesterday by Dr. Malley in Kansas City. Everything went great, surgery took around 30 minutes and I was up and walking in another 30. No pain meds other than what they gave me during the operation until right before bed last night. Today I am more sore but it's manageable. I'm on clear liquids for another 4 days then I can add in some pureed soups and what not in but I'm sure everyone here knows more about what I can eat than I do. I'm looking forward to this journey ahead of me, but right now I just want to heal from the surgery. I'm trying to …

Had surgery thursday and all went well, had trouble sleeping a couple of nights. Pain was managable and I only stayed one night. I am on clear liquids until monday and then I can start phase two with shakes. Looking forward to eating a plain yogurt post op I was 318 and in 4 days I have lost 7 lbs. That helps me stay motivated. I have a 2 year old boy, and the hardest thing is not being able to carry him, but in due time he'll have a healither mommy

Finally!!!! after crying & being nervous. I had my surgery on feb 6th at 9.30am. Was in the recovery room at 10.30. Groggy all day but quite awake & normal. Obviously the pain killers were working. I had the Leak X-ray test the next morning and it was all ok. Got home and for about 24 hours I was just so emotional and cried a lot because I was scared of the next few months with 2 kids and no lifting them. That's my only worry! I feel physically fine with no pain and discomfort. I'm on a liquid diet for 15 days post op and then to soft foods which I just cannot wait for. I am still hungry and missing foods. Is it normal?

Hello all. Brand new to the board. I am a soon to be a 49 year old male with a big decision. I have a great surgeon and going through the process of getting ready for surgery in May or June . Waiting on insurance , and going to support groups, etc. I once weighted 418 pounds back in the late eighties. I now weigh about 290. Sounds good But I was around 260 on weight watchers a couple of years back. The weight is creeping back as I get older. My surgeon is reconending the sleeve, But the lap band seems less dangerous. Ive heard all the stories about the high maintence of the band and the problems with It. But am cautious about the Long term sucess with the sleeve. Any i…

I am an A type personality. A former athlete and self proclaimed workaholic (okay maybe more than self proclaimed...as I am told regularly that I work too much). I spent a lifetime playing baseball, softball, rugby, indoor soccer and pretty much anything I could sacrifice my body to in the name of winning competitions. My knees started to go as a teenager (first surgery at 14). Now at 43 I have osteoarthritis and I am nearly bone on bone in my right knee. The pain in my knees have progressively started getting worse as one, I quit playing sports about 5 years ago and two...and extra 110+ lbs will do you in too! Its an awful pain. I have paid the trainer and worked ou…

I have been waiting for this for sooooo long! I have finally made it possible financially to schedule my surgery! I don't know if I want to cry or shout. I don't have a date scheduled yet, but I have my doctor picked out, and I am working on getting my passport so I can go down to OCC! This is a very long time coming and I am so happy. It is like a load has been lifted off my shoulders and I haven't even lost any weight yet. lol... Its this dream that has always been off in the far future is now tangible and close enough to be real. I know I have a long road ahead of me, and not all of it will be easy. But my life is going to change, I am going to be happy and free …

Sometimes I feel like I am crazy - other times I am able to rationalize this move - and then I flip flop several times throughout the day. I've tried everything... and yes during all of those crazy attempts I have lost weight. NOTHING ever stayed off once my attempt was over... be it injections, pills, WW, etc. It's been a roller coaster - and it makes me sad. I am looking for honest feedback and input - I understand that my weight is not comparable to others, but please understand that my feelings are... and my self talk is probably the same as the rest of you. Athough l drastic I feel it will be the right thing for me. I enjoy reading other stories and it has given me a lot of insight and plenty to think about. I have not shared with many people that I am having surgery so I love the support on this forum. I am nervous about waking up in the recovery room. Is it disorienting? Thanks

I'm so frustrated, I feel like I'm not getting any support from my boyfriend or my family, no one gets that the transition post op is very difficult on me. I know people can eat and live however they want but I was told there would always be food in this house I can have and there isn't; instead there is a carvel ice cream cake shaped like a football, 4lbs of chicken wings, and cheesecake. Lately all I do is lay in my bed and cry because I don't want to even look at the food in my kitchen and I don't have enough money to buy anything myself this week. I don't know if this was worth it I'm down 33lbs but I don't look different and I just feel like no one cares at all.

Hello everyone! My name is Shanna. I am almost 36 years old and I live in MA with my husband and almost 2 year old daughter. I have been heavy since college and have never been able to make anything work enough to lose the weight and keep it off. I was a thin healthy child and the "Freshman 15" turned into the "Freshman 40" for me. And steadily over the years, I have gotten bigger and bigger. I have tried many things, and had some good success with Weight Watchers, but it doesn't stay off. My mom had gastric bypass 10 years ago. So last summer I started kicking around the idea of needing to have weight loss surgery myself in order to do it right and keep it off f…

Hi everyone...I am new here, my name is Melanie and I had surgery Jan 24, 2013. I went for my 2 week checkup yesterday and got moved up to pureed foods. I would like to know if anyone has experienced pains after eating for the first time? I had grilled fish yesterday where I ate about 1/4 of a piece of fish. After about 6 or 7 bites my stomach started cramping and continued cramping on and off for about 30 minutes after I stopped eating. Again tonight, I smashed up some beans and ate about 2 tbsp and my stomach started cramping again. Am I doing something wrong?

I am about 31/2 weeks out from surgery. I am trying to do my normal routine. Back at work. But not doing anything too strenuous because every now and then I still feel what I can only describe as a pull from my surgery. Sometimes I turn over in bed and feel that same pull and it doesnt feel good. It was more intense right after surgery, but I was hoping by now that it would be gone. I am ready for this sensation to go away because it has impeded some of my normal activities that I am looking forward to resuming. Has anyone else experienced this?

A very cool tool (Google it). But he also will be placing two very thin abdominal wall catheters in place to help control pain. They are hooked up tp a pain pump that dispenses Marcaine or other drug of his choice for pain. Has nayone had this? Did it really help with the pain? What about the single incision surgery, how did that go? All of these are suppose to really decrease recovery time and pain. Has any other sleever used or scheduled with Dr. Sherman Yu? I had my 6 month post-op appointment yesterday, with labs done ahead of time. Although I'm good at taking my vitamins, I had dangerously low levels of B12. I now have to take my recommended weekly dose every single day for 6 weeks, then re-test and find a stabilizing dose. B12 deficiency is serious and can cause permanent neurological deficits. Make sure you're getting all of that monitored post-op! I'm glad my surgeon and nutritionist are on top of things! They also said I can expect to lose about half the weight I lost the first 6 months, in my second six months, with lots of exercise. That would put me right at my goal! All in all, a fairly easy experience. The B12 ha…
