New here!

Hi all, I'm in the RNY program right now. Just finished my classes today and have just one more appointment to go and they'll be submitting me for approval after the first of the year. It's been a very long, very emotional process...in more ways than one. I actually tried to have the surgery back in 2010 and went through the entire program but couldn't get the insurance approval. I'm hoping I can find lots of support on here, because with my work schedule I don't think I'll be able to make many meetings. And I've already had to end one friendship partly because of the surgery (but that's a story for another day).

I've been big all my life, so I have no idea what to expect as I lose weight. I'm also trying to lose another 13 pounds before surgery.

Nice to cyber-meet you all!

I have UHC and have a 6 month diet and exercise program to complete. I was all set for Surgery Nov 30th when UHC came back denying surgery because I didn't have this requirement met. Speaking with them in Aug they said it wasn't required, frustrated but moved on. I just finished month 3 of 6 month program.all my other requirements are met. Good Luck.

Best wishes for a quick approval...this was one of the hardest times for me....just having to wait for them to make up their mind, but hopefully it will go quickly for you

Wow Pooky, you've been through a lot of waiting! I hope you get word back quickly! I'm in the third month of my 3 -month Dr supervised weight loss program. This last month is moving so much slower than the first two. :/

Just left my preop. Lost another 2 pounds, so that's 11 of the 19 pounds he wants me to lose. He said he won't cancel me over the 8 pounds. If I gain anything he WILL cancel, so I have to keep at it and at least maintain what I've lost! So relieved!

I'm new here, as in this minute so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right our not lol.

I had RNY October 22nd, 2012. I lost around 35 lbs right of the bat, now its pretty much stopped and I'm freaking out. I go in for my 4 month visit Tuesday so I'll ask the dr, but has anyone else had this issue?

I was told it may take a few weeks to get approval but I called the insurance company twice a day once the office sent everything in. Because I called so much they did the medical review the same day they received everything. You are your only advocate so don't be afraid to push them for what you want.

I had also called my insurance company to know what my policy allowed and didn't allow, what the requirements were, and how much they would cover if and when I was approved. It helped a lot to be over prepared and over communicative with the insurance company.

When are you expecting to get the final info?
